DISNEY ON ICE PRESENTA MUNDOS FANTÁSTICOS
A. May 2016: The Ceramics Program, Office for the Arts at Harvard is pleased to announce the completion of a ceramic mural created by students of Instructor Allison Newsome for the CHA Somerville Hospital, part of the Cambridge Health Alliance.
Created by more than 14 artists over two semesters, the salon-style mural, titled Homeostasis, incorporates life-reinforcing imagery such as fruit, flowers, and other happy themes, rendered in a ceramic relief that recalls the architectural ceramics of 15th century Italian sculptor della Robbia. Each artist worked on separate compositions that are unified by the use of a white maiolica glaze with color applied on top. For example, artist Julie Nussbaum chose to create a center medallion depicting Hygieia, goddess of health, surrounded by historical landmarks that will be familiar to Somerville community members, including the Prospect Hill Fort and the Powderhouse. Her depiction of Hygieia rising from a lotus blossom against a “bathtub mary blue” ground alludes to the familiar sights and changing demographics of the Somerville community. Artist Bruce Armitage contributed two pieces to the mural; one depicts a woman in a garden contemplating serene and happy thoughts, while the other shows a woman holding a basket with flowers. The collaborative ceramic mural is intended to “bring a human touch to a high-tech hospital environment with art that inspires, transforms and comforts patients, families, visitors and staff” in the waiting rooms of the Emergency Department and OB-GYN.
Artists who worked on the project include: Christopher Adams, Bruce Armitage, Margaret Bearse, Deborah Bower Burke, Goce Davidov, Lesley Davison, Jia Gu, Kelley Hess, Marek Jacisin, Joyce Lauro, Catherine Lehar, Allison Newsome, Phi Nguyen, Julie Nussbaum, Brett Moore, Stephanie Osser, Elizabeth Timpson. Special thanks to Bethanie Long and Ava Penman of the Cambridge Health Alliance for their help in establishing this relationship between the Ceramics Program, Office for the Arts at Harvard and the Cambridge Health Alliance. It is the second time Newsome has led a collaborative mural project for the CHA through the Ceramics Program; in 2012 a mural utilizing local clay from the historic Stiles and Hart brick manufactory was installed outside the Women’s Health Center at the Cambridge Hospital.
The public was invited to celebrate this collaborative public art project at a reception at the hospital on Monday, June 20, 2016 from 4:30 – 6 pm at the CHA Somerville Hospital Emergency Department at 230 Highland Ave. Somerville, MA, 02143.

Let me tell you why this is funny: this is historically an error code used by Microsoft for undetermined errors. I have seen it as far back as classic ASP over 10 years ago. And it still exists, in the Xbox 360. Ouch.

At Sean's encouragement, here's something that's in process that I don't like at all. After spending way too many non-billable hours trying to resolve my unhappiness on my own, I'm posting it here (which I should have done last week).
The church is doing a 6-week series called "All Aboard" about unity and momentum and commitment and adventure. The imagery is that of an old steam engine and passenger car. We want to make the program/bulletin look like an old train ticket. What I've got so far looks more "stage coach" than train ticket. Where am I going wrong?
I've selected a manila construction paper. It has a mottled look and fuzzy feeling, so I think we're communicating vintage through the tactile. They will be printed in-house on a color laser. They're not up for cutting them all down to achieve a full bleed, so they need at least a 1/4" margin.
The font used in the on-screen imagery is Century Schoolbook. Their brand font is Franklin Gothic family. Those are the two that are used here.
Help me take this all the way!

The Army Public Health Center has a free tick identification and testing service for ticks removed from Department of Defense personnel and their dependents. The Department of Defense Human Test Tick Kit Program, known as HTTP, operates out of the Tick-Borne Disease Laboratory, part of the APHC Directorate of Laboratory Sciences, at APG South (Edgewood).
Dr. Robyn Nadolny, a biologist and the program coordinator of the APHC TBDL, said the program serves all active duty personnel, retirees, civilians, contractors and family members.
“We are looking for ticks that have bitten anyone that is affiliated with the Department of Defense,” she said.
Nadolny said ticks can carry and transmit a wide variety of disease-causing organisms, or pathogens. The HTTP can identify ticks that carry the pathogens for diseases like Lyme disease, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, Tidewater spotted fever, ehrlichiosis and human babesiosis.
For more information
The TBDL is located in Building E5800 at APG South (Edgewood). Its hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday- Friday. The building has a drop off box, for tick specimens.

More than 8,000 women and children living in the camp benefit from two nutrition programs run by the World Food Programme (WFP) in the camp. One is Targeted Supplementary Feeding Programme, which is designed to treat moderate acute malnutrition among children under the age of five and pregnant and nursing women. The other is Integrated Blanket Supplementary Feeding Programme meant to prevent malnutrition among children under the age of three. Through both programs, women learn to prepare highly nutritious food by combining corn soya blend with sugar and oil or by using local ingredients such as lentils and cereals. The women also learn basic child care practices that prevent infection and sickness among their children.
