www.ffhl.org •University Scholarship Program
To stem the exodus from the Holy Land and more specifically from Israel, the FFHL is holding the ‘educational doors of opportunity’ open for the Christian community in the Holy Land. The Franciscan Foundation pays for 4 years of college including tuition and books for economically marginalized students who maintain a B average throughout high school. These scholarship grants are available to any student from any Christian denomination wishing to apply for a four year college program. The winners of the scholarship grants are chosen by the FFHL Scholarship Board made up of four professors residing in the U.S.
Each student selected must show a letter of acceptance from the university they are planning to attend and once that is validated, they can begin studies in the fall and payment for their school tuition commences.
In this experiential program, students learn about Chesapeake geography, social studies, and economics by following the blue crab on its journey from the brackish Bay to our picnic tables. The program focuses on the people who earn their livelihood from the crabbing industry. Students have a chance to walk in their shoes by working a trotline activity, picking stuffed crabs at a packing house, ordering from a restaurant on a migrant worker’s wages, and culling their dredge catch. For Talbot County 3rd grade students. For more information, visit cbmm.org/learn/school-programs/ or contact 410-745-4916.

The National STEM Guitar Project, in partnership with NSF Advanced Technological Education (ATE) Centers with funding provided through a grant from The National Science Foundation (#1304405), hosts innovative Guitar Building Institutes around the United States. The 5-day institutes, combined with additional instructional activities comprising 80 hours, provide faculty training on science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) for middle, high school, and post-secondary faculty. The institutes present and teach participants hands-on, applied learning techniques to help engage students and spark excitement for learning STEM subject matter.
Nationwide, there are increasing concerns from businesses about the supply of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics trained workers. Science and math test scores in the U.S. are among the lowest around the world.
The goal and objective of the STEM Guitar Building Institutes is to showcase a new way to present learning for students with applied methods.
