From imagination.
Brushes 3 is out for iDevices but I'm not loving the interface changes. Seems like during the long wait for a Brushes upgrade, I've become a Procreate fan instead. So instead of fooling around with Brushes, I'm back to exploring the different Procreate brushes.

Never posted a drawing demo but have been so impressed with the recently purchased iPadPro's performance that I did a quick drawing from imagination. Am using the Procreate app and Sensu stylus (while waiting for the Apple Pencil to be delivered). The iPadPro's dimension and fast chip performance lend themselves so well to drawing/painting that I don't have to dwell on laggy performance. (Video capture via iPhone6 Plus.)
Continuing with my Tudor studies, here's Tasha Tudor in Autumn. Painted in about 3 hours from reference as an exercise with brush textures. I wasen't aiming for something super slick, and I couldn't resist spending too much time on the figure. :P
Here's one of my new favorite sugar skulls... a grinning skull wearing headphones, bursting with color and vitality! The title of this piece is "Tranquility Beats" and I created it using the Procreate iPad app and Photoshop (mostly Procreate, except for the background rays/colors which I did in Photoshop). This sugar skull will appear in my 2016 calendar - yay!

A late night mash-up between a mystery jkpp member in a striped shirt whose photo I can't find again and my memory of Andres from the last time I drew him. Neither subject was actually this bottom heavy, however.

Skyping to London for the 10/5/13 JKPP Meetup. This is how it looked from here - wide angle tilted architecture, friends peering down but up through a little window on my computer screen, and my own face in an even tinier window.
Gila, Florida, USA, on an iPad Skype with Maureen, UK, and the tiny image of me, lower left, California, USA, as I Skyped with Maureen who was holding the iPad with the Skype of Gila...

So, I decided to buckle down and use the iPad Pro and ProCreate for these doodles. Since I had already done the prep work in the index cards, it was a quick process to draw these in their final (?) form and pass them in the other teacher that is compiling them.
In this versions, the "1", the "C", and the "2" are building the chest and the figure is shocked by the revelation of what's inside.
I really liked it until... (see next upload).

I had this idea that I could 'throw together' a very complex piece quickly for a show if I kept it digital. I was wrong. I gave up on this and completed an acrylic paint WIP instead. But some of what came out of the digital process was interesting so here's some of what I did before stopping.

One thing I really appreciate about Martin, in addition to his art, is how he stays with this community even when he's working on other projects, such as his current Ipsden landscapes.

One in a set of very quick sketches from imagination - often single line, often left handed.
These are some stormtrooper paintings I made for a gallery show and to hang in a local restaurant. They are acrylic on masonite board I cut sanded and painted. They are approx 20 inches tall. paintings (c) Tom Torrey 2015
