Great Tit [Parus Major]
A lovely afternoon brought literally hundreds of wee birdies to my feeders at The Pixies.
This Great Tit waited on a branch for a few seconds, before darting down to get a peanut. Sometimes, they will sit and eat sunflower hearts but normally they just swoop in, take a nut, and fly off, then come back and repeat the procedure. Apparently, they stash their food for later.

Same procedure as last week... I wasn't really happy with any of my images, and took several more (of the same subject) today, but in the end I decided to stick to an image taken last night. It's strange sometimes, isn't it? So here we go, circles, or rather holes of a reduction sieve (?) that came with my espresso maker. Each of the holes has a diameter of 1 mm / 0,03 inches. I wanted a very narrow focal plane and everything else as bokeh, and in that I guess I've succeeded – somehow. Well, I hope you like the image anyway, I've looked at it too many times yesterday and today, so I can't see the forest for the trees (or the coffee for the holes) :)
It's a single image illuminated with one LED lamp (equipped with the blue tealight holder), and backlight coming from another LED lamp (equipped with the yellow plastic bottle cap) on which I had also placed the sieve. Processed in DXO and Color Efex where I'd slightly tweaked the colours by adding some warmth with the Reflector Efex Gold filter.

...as last holidays. Every time since the little pier of Hvidbjerg Strand has been constructed I have to creep under the building to take a shot. It has become almost an obsession. Needless to say that this exercise is more convenient in Summer and times of low tide. Blavand, Jylland, Denmark

the hida scan came in normal. so my next procedure will be an endoscopy and then I give up.

I asked my surgeon when she called tonight if I could please have a pancake. I got permission to try one.
I'm supposed to be off all milk products, all caffeine. I'm going to add them slowly and see if I explode or not.

Failed (?) toning procedure: selenium toning went too far, it left next to no silver for the thiourea toner to tone. If anything, there's the slightest hint of "sulphiding" in this print, not quite as intense of an effect as I had hoped for. Still beautiful enough to post on Flickr ;-)

Ich wurde nach einem Ersatz für DOKUMOL gefragt. Ich habe zwar eine eigene Rezeptur für einen etwas kontrastreicheren Entwickler (Catechol), doch ich weiß wie Anwender ticken (bin ja selbst einer) – einmal Dokumol, immer Dokumol.
Grundsätzlich sollte man nicht zuviel erwarten, denn mehr als eine halbe Gradation kontrstreicher ist kaum möglich. Bei einer Verdünnung von 1+9 ist der Unterschied zu „normalen“ Entwicklern recht gering. Bei 1+6 verbunden mit einer ca. 2/10 bis 3/10 Blende kürzeren Belichtungszeit, sieht man schon einen Unterschied, andererseits würde fast jeder normale Entwickler bei gleicher Vorgehensweise ähnlich reagieren.
Eine interessante Verwendung für beide Entwickler ist die als Erstentwickler für klar differenzierte Tonwete bis in die Mitteltöne, die dann noch nicht vorhandenen Lichter holt man mit einem zweiten (normal oder weich arbeitendem) Entwickler.
Für kontrastarme Negative, die eine Filterung nahe Gradation 5 benötigen, oder dann immer noch einen zu kontrastarmen Print erzeugen, kann DOKUMOL wie auch CATECHOL einen leichten Vorteil bringen.

Um die Eingangsfrage zu beantworten, machbar ist das. Und wenn die Nachfrage das hergeben würde, wäre der nächste Schritt, das „ungute“ Hydrochinon durch Monosulfonat zu ersetzen, würde aber einen noch höheren Preis erfordern.

I was asked for a substitute for DOKUMOL. Although I have my own recipe for a slightly higher-contrast developer (Catechol), I know how users think (being one myself) – once Dokumol, always Dokumol.
Basically, you shouldn't expect too much, because it's hardly possible to achieve more than half a grade of higher contrast. At a dilution of 1+9, the difference to ‘normal’ developers is quite small. At 1+6 combined with an exposure time that is approx. 2/10 to 3/10 f-stops shorter, you can already see a difference, but on the other hand, almost any normal developer would react similarly if the same procedure were used.
An interesting use for both developers is as a first developer for clearly differentiated tones up to the mid-tones, with the highlights that are not yet present being brought out with a second (normal or soft-acting) developer.
For low-contrast negatives that require filtering close to gradation 5, or that still produce a print with too little contrast, DOKUMOL and CATECHOL can offer a slight advantage.

To answer the initial question, yes, it is feasible. And if demand were to warrant it, the next step would be to replace the ‘unpleasant’ hydroquinone with monosulfonate, but this would require an even higher price.

This is an amazing place. Every turn shows a new amazing, colorful, glowing, canvas. It was easy to take lots of photos. The tough part was culling the photos when I got home.
There were 10 people (representing 5 groups) and a guide in our group. The tours are a little under an hour from start to finish. The sent us in about 10 minutes apart. The guide is very informative and educational. There was some pressure to keep the group moving. The guide was helpful and took pictures of us several times during the tour.

This canyon is more narrow to walk through, as it’s shaped like a “V”, so if you are claustrophobic this area is not for you. It goes into the slot canyon and you have to maneuver thru closely on stairs, which is harder to walk through. This area is also located within the Le Chee Chapter of the Navajo Nation, near Page, Arizona.

Everything went well yesterday. The procedure itself was extremely painful because of the diverticular disease in my colon but I am glad to report that it was nothing nastier than that - phew!
Came home and had a cuddle with the cats and all was well again.
Blimme it is cold here today. Minus 5 when I came out of the house this morning.

Time to take a break. And as luck would have it, this was the weather while I was watching the flight status of my flights. I had no doubt that they would fly. And they did, with a bit of a delay but after a serious de-icing procedure, they took off. Now posting in sandals.

I had to make a trip home to NH .. My Mom had a heart procedure .. She's doing ok thankfully. She loves to go for rides up North so we enjoyed a day of travel in the great north woods.

Lubrication information tag hanging from the speed-control pull-chain of a mid-to-late 1950s-vintage Fresh'nd-Aire air circulator (the Successor to the Fan, as the tag boasts), about 2½" (63.5mm) tall. (I haven't yet posted a picture of the unit by itself, but it can be seen here; it has long since been relocated since I took that shot.)
I'll confess...even though this fan (sorry, air circulator) sees regular summertime use, I hadn't lubricated it in about fifteen years. Back when I first put it in service, I lubricated it with synthetic automatic transmission fluid instead of the oil recommended on the tag. Over the years, I noticed no performance loss. Since I had the unit apart on my workbench to clean off the accumulated dust inside and out before the photoshoot, I gave the bearings fresh squirts of ATF to keep the air circulator going for many years to come..
By the way, I couldn't help but search the address on the tag to see what became of the factory. It is now the site of an apartment building.
