I was told that the standard procedure for taking bird photos was to set the speed to 1/10 of a second, take 10 shots and pick the best. With unsteady hands I set the speed to 1/200 and picked this. Not great but still the best of the lot and my second bird photo on Flickr, after an Ibis in Sydney, Australia. Thanks Ron Masters. Now how do I improve on this one, Ron?

Big Sur is a rugged and mountainous section of California's Central Coast, reaching from Carmel Highlands to San Simeon. It is frequently praised for its dramatic scenery. The Santa Lucia Mountains provide a starkly beautiful background to equally beautiful coastal views.
Big Sur has been called the longest and most scenic stretch of undeveloped coastline in the contiguous United States, a sublime national treasure that demands extraordinary procedures to protect it from development. Many consider it to be one of the most beautiful coastlines anywhere in the world, an isolated stretch of road, mythic in reputation.
It is also subject to rock and mud slides, often closing segments of the road for many months. The past two years have been particularly hard on portions of Highway 1 due to strong storms and heavy rain. The road is closed from Lucia to Carmel. Hopefully it will be fully open in autumn 2024.
We were fortunate to be able to drive north from Cambria to visit a section of this coastline we had not previously driven. This spot is notable for the contrast of dark cliffs and rocks that comprise most of the coast with the white rock in the background, which has probably served as a resting site for cormorants, pelicans and other sea birds. There are several rocks like this along the coast -- they certainly stand out against the dark blue water.

This quarantine crap has gotten so bad, I can't get out to shoot some new pics. I have had to resort to using my own camera at work to take pictures for procedures I am writing. But, at least I get to play around with some of the ones I don't use.
The same procedure as every year ... "Look, what a beautiful little tree ... come on, let's cut it off and slowly kill it in the dry apartment and when it's no longer nice, then we throw it in front of the door, someone will take care of it" ... 😈

Waiting for the approval of the brand new Railjet coaches in Italy, the first OBB Rh1216-A already painted in the same livery, the unit N°018, is in service with the Eurocity trains between München and Verona along the Brenner route.
Here it's running throught the Adige Canyon between Salorno and Mezzocorona with the train 89. (4/16/16)
My vision is greatly improved. Almost perfect. Everything is much brighter and much more colorful. Especially the Blues! The cataract had given a greenish tint to everything.
The procedure was very pleasant and the results happen right away.
I would have never seen this little guy before. Today, I spotted it immediately. Can you see it??

I was not up to going out to shoot the spectacular spring-flowering giant saguaro cactus this year due to my leg vein surgical procedures. Now that I can, there are just a few flowers left that are still blooming.

Lubrication information tag hanging from the speed-control pull-chain of a mid-to-late 1950s-vintage Fresh'nd-Aire air circulator (the Successor to the Fan, as the tag boasts), about 2½" (63.5mm) tall. (I haven't yet posted a picture of the unit by itself, but it can be seen here; it has long since been relocated since I took that shot.)
I'll confess...even though this fan (sorry, air circulator) sees regular summertime use, I hadn't lubricated it in about fifteen years. Back when I first put it in service, I lubricated it with synthetic automatic transmission fluid instead of the oil recommended on the tag. Over the years, I noticed no performance loss. Since I had the unit apart on my workbench to clean off the accumulated dust inside and out before the photoshoot, I gave the bearings fresh squirts of ATF to keep the air circulator going for many years to come..
By the way, I couldn't help but search the address on the tag to see what became of the factory. It is now the site of an apartment building.

En 1219 se llevó a cabo una reconstrucción más amplia de la mezquita.
El minarete y la mihrab de mármol (1891) son de origen otomano.
En el patio de la mezquita hay dos monumentales mausoleos.

The aircraft is used for patrol flights as well as for submarine hunting.
The Breguet Atlantic is the only aircraft in the world that was built exclusively for this range of tasks from the outset, while other maritime reconnaissance aircraft are usually developed on the basis of civilian aircraft.

It looks as if 70807 on 6E46 Kingsbury - Lindsey failed, 70814 arrived from Crewe and the service got away about 7 hours late. Shame there was a 70 at Crewe, would have been nice with a 56.... seen here backing out onto the main line. After a couple of derailments, standard operating procedure is for the train to be watched on its way out, hence the guy in high vis.
