Here's a shot taken on the 6th night of my SW trip. It was really late and Wayne and I where trying to squeeze in as many locations as we could before he had to head back to Salt Lake for a flight home. We hit this spot and immediately started setting up the lighting, It seemed that after shooting together for a short time we managed to work out a great procedure to prevent spoiled exposures do to a headlamps being turned on during an exposure, and after an hour or so it seemed like we had been shooting together for years, we were snapping away and not having any difficulty stepping on toes so to speak. The first night we were shooting together at the Kiva, Wayne had kindly offered to let me use his 6D since he would be using a new Nikon 810a and it was a tempting offer, and now that I think about it, I probably should have, just to say I had a photo taken with Wayne Pinkston's camera. But I was determined to see it through with my 70D so I really push the ISO on this shot and extend my exposure time as there would be less movement in the MW at this angle. The milky way was really high in the sky at about 2:00am which makes for a bluer sky and at this angle I didn't have to fight with light pollution. I was able to capture this shot at my camera's maximum ISO setting and It is a single exposure at 4000k white balance. All of the night photos from this trip I have been varying the white balance so that I could establish a white balance I like the best. :)

...as last holidays. Every time since the little pier of Hvidbjerg Strand has been constructed I have to creep under the building to take a shot. It has become almost an obsession. Needless to say that this exercise is more convenient in Summer and times of low tide. Blavand, Jylland, Denmark
Each year in April a charcoal burner gets invited into my hometown by local authorities. This is keeping in line with a long standing tradition of burning of wood and subsequently making charcoal in a nearby safe part of the forest.
A few years back I went to see the customary procedure in the wee hours of the morning. The charcoal burner has to get up every couple of hours to watch the process of burning. He usually sleeps in a self-built wooden shack close to mother nature´s ground. Unbekownst to me, but guessing, the fiery German Schnaps, he surely liked, made it difficult for him to wake up on time.
The moment I arrived the huge heap of wood was burning at full blast. No charcoal can be made in this manner. Important is an even carbonization at a low temperature, a die away and charring. All fluid and gaseous combustion products need detracting. So I dashed to his shack and immediately woke him up. A minute later I photographed him hastily working, whilst listening to his mumbling.

Pink shamrock (Oxalis debilis var. corymbosa ) is regarded as a minor environmental weed in Queensland, and as a "sleeper weed" in other parts of Australia.
I have just had cataract surgery,
my vision is very limited.
Cataract surgery
This is one of the most frequently performed surgical procedures in the world. The surgery involves:
Administering a local anaesthetic to the eye(s)
Making a tiny 2–3 mm incision in the outermost layer of the eye (the cornea)
Making an evenly round incision in the ‘bag’ (capsule) containing the affected lens
Breaking up the affected lens into smaller pieces with an ultrasound
Removing these pieces with a vacuum and flushing the lens capsule to clean it
Inserting and accurately positioning a clear artificial replacement lens (known as an intraocular lens or IOL).
The new lens can’t be felt once placed inside the eye. When a lens is replaced, it is not possible to develop another cataract.
The operation itself takes less than 30 minutes and can be performed in a day surgery or in hospital.

My daughter graduated from Stanford last Sunday adding a major in Management Science and Enginering to her three golds in World Rowing Championships (among other athletic achievements in rowing). Next stop: Olympics, Paris '24.
It's worth mentioning that the year she applied there was above 47.000 applicants to Stanford. Only 1700 where admitted. Annual fees, tuition plus allowances, are around 100.000 USD/year at Stanford. Esther enjoyed a full scholarship thanks to having reached the top 5% in the USA academic rankings (SAT, ACT), besides her outstanding athletic achievements, let alone having successfully undergone all Stanford's demanding selective procedures.
Should anyone ask me... yep, I'll say that we are pretty proud of our daughter although being the parents of this type of critters isn't as easy as it could seem LOL. Thanks to all of you my friends who have been following her achivements over the past few years, showing your support. I owed you this pict.

Mi hija se ha graduado en Stanford el domingo pasado, añadiendo un grado en Management Science and Engineering (aprox. Ingeniería de Organización Industrial - Investigación Operativa - gestión de métodos, tiempos y decisiones) a sus tres oros en campeonatos del mundo de remo, entre otros logros importantes en remo.
Conviene señalar que el año en el que Esther realizó su solicitud, hubo unos 47000 solicitantes para entrar en Stanford, de los cuales fueron admitidos finalmente 1700. El coste anual de estudiar en Stanford (matrícula, gastos de manutención) se sitúa en torno a los 100.000 USD anuales. Esther disfrutó de una beca completa gracias a haberse situado en el 5% superior del ranking americano basado en los exámenes de entrada, además de aportar sus méritos deportivos, y de haber superado todas las fases del estricto procedimiento de admisión en Stanford.
Siguiente parada: París 24. Si alguien me pregunta... pues sí, estamos bastante orgullosos de de nuestra hija, aunque ser los padres de este tipo de bichos no es tan fácil como podría parecer LOL. Urgut is a town in the Samarqand Region of Uzbekistan and the capital of Urgut District. It is known for the grove of plane trees, some of which are more than 1000 years old. Urgut is located in mountainous areas.
Urgutlik (also known as Urguti in Tajik) people are a subgroup of ethnic Uzbeks who track their ancestry to people from a town of Urgut. There are almost 500,000 people who describe themselves as Urgutlik. Urgutlik people frequently use Tajik words in their daily conversation. Majority of the population speak Tajik and Uzbek.
Urguti people are heavily involved in basic mercantile trading in their respective locations and in farming. In the town craftsmanship is also well-known which has been maintained traditionally throughout the centuries.
Urgut's biggest market with varied and relatively inexpensive merchandise attracts folks even from Samarkand, the capital of the Region.
Nawat is a traditional Uzbek crystallized sugar that is served with tea, sometimes instead of regular sugar or caramel. Nawat is made from concentrated sugar syrup or grape juice with the addition of certain spices. Hot syrup is poured into large boilers, in which the threads are stretched horizontally, around which the sugar crystallizes. Nawat has different shades: from whitish to light yellow and dark brown. It can be added to tea or enjoyed in the mouth, like a candy. Nawat, consists of pure glucose and fructose and has a number of health benefits. People use it as lozenges for cough and sore throat, drink with green tea as a folk remedy for many diseases. Nawat has a warming effect, gives strength and energy, is useful in hypothermia and colds.
Parwarda (national Uzbek caramel) - traditional Uzbek sweets in the form of a white small pillow, sprinkled with flour. Parwarda contains only sugar, flour, lemon juice or citric acid. First, the sugar is boiled with a caramel mass, then white candies are formed and these are rolled into flour. The procedure is quite time-consuming (below you can watch the video: how to prepare parwarda).In Parwarda, sometimes herbal additives or spices are added, which give the sweets not only delicate colors and refined flavors, but also healing properties.
The image was made in a sand-lime brick factory near Roding. The factory was built in 1909, directly on the railway line Nuremberg-Furth im Wald.
The blanks were produced in presses and transferred into the hardening boiler. These were operated with 200 degrees hot steam and 16 bar pressure.
This procedure initiated a chemical process hardening the sand-lime mixture.

The tours are well organized and prepared for emergencies. They have procedures to evacuate tourists for emergencies or claustrophobic anxieties. They DO NOT ALLOW tripods, monopods, or selfie sticks. They have apparently had problems with tourists.
This is an amazing place. Every turn shows a new amazing, colorful, glowing, canvas. It was easy to take lots of photos. The tough part was culling the photos when I got home.
There were 9 people (representing 4 families) and a guide in our group. The tours are a little under an hour from start to finish. We were the first of 4 or 5 groups in our time slot. The sent us in about 10 minutes apart. The guide is very informative and educational. There was some pressure to keep the group moving. The guide was helpful and took pictures of the families several times during the tour.

The Navajo name for Lower Antelope Canyon is Hasdez twazi’, which means “the spiral role arches.” Lower Antelope Canyon is about 3, 704 feet in elevation and the canyon walls are about 120 above the streambed. This canyon is more narrow to walk through, as it’s shaped like a “V”, so if you are claustrophobic this area is not for you. It goes into the slot canyon and have to maneuver thru closely on stairs, which is harder to walk through. This area is also located within the Le Chee Chapter of the Navajo Nation, near Page, Arizona.

Same procedure as last time. Still going through the archives and still finding images worth processing. Again a first version, tomorrow or at the weekend I'll take a final look and do a print to see if I need to refine.
This year we went to the same place but the light didn't come close to what I saw that morning, one year ago. I will try again next year :-)

🇬🇧 In the usual Seljuk fashion, a Christian basilica on the site was converted into a mosque after the city was conquered in 1080. Many of the building materials and architectural sculptures were taken from the basilica and other nearby Byzantine monuments.

Well my YAG procedure yesterday in my opinion (not that I am an ophthalmologist) seems to have gone very well. It's like, as many described to me "looking through super clean glasses".
I will go back in one month for a checkup. Right now I have a regime of eye drops again 3x day for 7 days in each eye and they sting like all get out. But, it's a small price to pay to be able to see.

Lubrication information tag hanging from the speed-control pull-chain of a mid-to-late 1950s-vintage Fresh'nd-Aire air circulator (the Successor to the Fan, as the tag boasts), about 2½" (63.5mm) tall. (I haven't yet posted a picture of the unit by itself, but it can be seen here; it has long since been relocated since I took that shot.)
I'll confess...even though this fan (sorry, air circulator) sees regular summertime use, I hadn't lubricated it in about fifteen years. Back when I first put it in service, I lubricated it with synthetic automatic transmission fluid instead of the oil recommended on the tag. Over the years, I noticed no performance loss. Since I had the unit apart on my workbench to clean off the accumulated dust inside and out before the photoshoot, I gave the bearings fresh squirts of ATF to keep the air circulator going for many years to come..
By the way, I couldn't help but search the address on the tag to see what became of the factory. It is now the site of an apartment building.
