Some background:
The Bachem Ba 349 Natter (English: Colubrid, grass-snake) was a World War II German point-defence rocket-powered interceptor, which was to be used in a very similar way to a manned surface-to-air missile. In 1943, Luftwaffe air superiority was being challenged by the Allies over the Reich and radical innovations were required to overcome the crisis. Surface-to-air missiles appeared to be a promising approach to counter the Allied strategic bombing offensive; a variety of projects were started, but invariably problems with the guidance and homing systems prevented any of these from attaining operational status. Providing the missile with a pilot, who could operate a weapon during the brief terminal approach phase, offered a solution.
After a rather fast and troublesome development phase the Natter was rushed into production. The SS ordered 150 Natters, and the Luftwaffe ordered 50, and the first serial production aircraft, now designated Ba 349 A-1, reached operational status in April 1945 with the Erprobungskommando (EK) 349. An operational launch site under the code name “Operation Kroku”s was being established in a small, wooded area called Hasenholz, south of the Stuttgart to Munich autobahn and to the east of Nabern unter Teck. Around the end of February and the beginning of March the Organisation Todt had been in action, constructing each set of the trios of concrete foundations (or "footings") for the stationary launch towers. These three launch pads and their towers were arranged at the corners of an equilateral triangle, 120 m per side.
By August 1945, 91 aircraft had been delivered to EK 349 and the first operational unit, the JG 400, into which the test unit was soon integrated. But a persistent lack of fuel, staff and maintenance resources kept most of them grounded. It was clear that the original plan for a huge network of Ba 349 bases that protected important locations would never be realized, and the idea of stationary bases made this network vulnerable to air raids, too. As a consequence mobile launch rigs for the Natter were developed, the so-called “Rampenwagen I”. This self-propelled vehicle was based on repurposed Königstiger battle tank hulls that had their engine moved into a mid-chassis position behind the driver’s compartment. This arrangement offered enough space at the heavy chassis’ rear section to carry an erectable ramp and two vacuum pumps that powered the launch sled for a single Natter that ran on rails on the ramp. The Natter interceptor was hooked with the ehlp of a crane into the erected ramp and started vertically. Beyond the Ba 349 this device could also be used to start the Messerschmitt E-4 “Enzian” anti-aircraft missile in a similar fashion, as well as the unmanned Fieseler Fi 103 “V1” cruise missile at a shallow launch angle
Adapting the existing Tiger II chassis turned out to be relatively easy, and unfinished hulls could be modified without major problems. A side benefit of the new mid-engine layout was that the driving shaft to the gearbox in the Jagdtiger’s front hull was shorter, saving material, weight, and internal space behind the engine bay. As a drawback the access to the engine compartment was limited through the low and long launch ramp – it had to be erected or even removed before the engine could be changed. Another characteristic feature of the modified hull was a different running gear. It used elements of Porsche’s original Tiger I running that was rejected for the heavy battle tank but adopted for the heavy Ferdinand/Elefant SPG that was based on Porsche’s Tiger I design. It consisted of four wheel-units per side made from pairs of 700 mm diameter steel road wheels and a longitudinal torsion bar suspension that remained outside of the hull. While its off-road performance was not as good as the original interleaved running gear with torsion bars inside of the hull, the Porsche system offered a production advantage over the Henschel running gear: it took a third less time to produce than Henschel’s system, reduced the hull construction time as well as machining time, required less maintenance, and could actually be completely replaced in the field without (theoretically) removing other parts and without the use of a jack. The Porsche system also saved about 1,200 kg in weight, 450 man-hours of work time, gained 100 mm more ground clearance, and saved RM 404,000 (Reichsmarks) in cost per vehicle. Much more importantly though, the use of this suspension freed up space inside the vehicle, an entire cubic meter extra! A few standard Jagdtiger SPGs were finished with this running gear, too, but it only became a standard on refurbished vehicles.
In service the Rampenwagen I received the official designation of Sd.Kfz. 282, and only a handful of these complex and bulky vehicles were build oer deilevered to frontline units until late 1945. In practice the Rampenwagen I was operated in combination with other vehicles to from mobile launch units for the Natter - plans envisioned groups with Sd.Kfz. 282s, accompanied by trabsporters for the tiny fighters, two cranes to lift them onto the launch sled on the ramp, plus fuel bowsers, a command and radio unit, plus supprt vehicles for staff and pilots as well as other equipment, and ideally even a mobile radar system that could guide and coordinate the interceptions. This, however, never materialized, due to the lack of resources, and only the Luftwaffe's JG 400 became operational enough to make some Ba 349 starts in the defense of the Stuttgart area, with very limited success.

The kit and its assembly:
Well, it's not really armour, but since this... thing is based on a Jagdtiger I put it here. It's actually cross-linked with the Ba 349 Natter that I am building in parallel - after all, how should that tiny rocket fight start? This thought had been on my mind for quite a time, and I had the Brengun Natter stashed away for some time. But creating a mobile launch platofrm - or better: coming up with a concept that could be turned into a model somehow, took really long. First ingredient was a Fujimi steam catapult kit from WWII, which works with an external sled, towed by a cable, quite different to the launch catapults that were for instance used for the Fi 103 VI, which operated like aircraft carrier steam catapults with a sled in a pressurized tube.
Finding a suitable chassis was more complicated. First bet was "Karl Gerät" mortar, which turned out to be much too big and also not really compatible with the Fujimi catapult, and the project went into hiatus again. Until inspiration struck and I remembered the Jagdtiger that I had built last year or so, with an oversized L/100 gun and the casemate moved to the rear of the hull (and the engine in a mid-positionj behind the drivers' compartment). That could work in size and arrangement!
Said and done, I procured an(other) Trumpeter Jagdtiger with the late Porsche running gear, with simplified and standardized elements that were intended for the E-Series of tanks, what would fit well into the model's intended time frame of mid 1945. And from that on things went straightforward, only that the catapult was shortened by 3" at the rear and modified to stand vertical - with the bonus that was able to construct a joint so that this is even functional. The launch sled, which was slightly tailored to hold the Natter, is movable, too. That area inside of the Jagdtiger hull had to be filled/improvised, but that worked well, too, thanks to some donor parts from a Modelcollect E-50 tank.
Painting and markings:
The paint scheme caused the next headaches. This is supposed to be a special vehicle, (re)constructed from a Jagdtiger hull, and somehow I did not find Dunkelgelb to be a proper solution. Late in WWII many tanks received an overall Olivgrün factory finish, but I also did not like that idea for this massive thing. Luftwaffe vehicles were, at least during early war stages, painted in their own color, RAL 7016, a dark and rather bluish tone slightly lighter than RAL 7021 Panzergrau, but that did not appear suitable, either. Red Oxidprimer was another option, but rejected, too.
Eventually I settled for a very simple overall RAL 7021 finish - a tone which was still available in considerable volume and applied to operational tanks - and in this case it would be a "2nd line vehicle". The dark tone would also work well to hide the launch platform's bulk in the shadows of trees or buildings, and it simply "looks German". Since the lattice girder catapult with the pressure piston inside was build before painting I used a rattle can - another argument for a uniform livery. After that the model was dry-brushed, decals and matt varnish were applied, and some dirt and dust was added with water colors and pigments.

Outbreak Of Germantown TN Roof Rats in Homes
Patriot Wildlife Control

Collierville, Tennessee 38017

Roof rats are known by a variety of names such as the fruit rat, ship rat, citrus rat et cetera. They have a distinct appearance; usually black or dark brown with smooth fur, a very long tail, large eyes and ears and a pointy face. Roof rats are adept climbers and usually prefer to build their nests above ground. Outdoors, roof rats’ nests can be found in trees, dense vegetation and woodpiles. Indoors, they prefer to live in the upper levels of the building like the attic, ceiling, rafters and cabinets. Roof rats prefer a diet of fruits and nuts, however, like most rodents, they are omnivores and will eat almost anything when hungry. This could be meat, vegetables, tree bark, grains, insects and even pet foods. These pesky rodents are known to hoard food and stash it in their nesting places. They also prefer to nest in areas where they can easily get water to sustain them, even if it means chewing through water pipes.
Rats invade roofs in Memphis suburbs of Collierville and Germantown, TN
Homeowners in Germantown, TN and Collierville are making shocking discoveries in their attics. Rats are invading homes by way of the roofs, and pest control companies are busy trying to get the persistent problem under control. "I'm actually shocked to go into attics and not find evidence," said Wildlife Solvers employee Chris Settle. "I've been in multiple attics, not animal related, and found evidence of animals." Settle's job for the last 10 years has been removing rats, squirrels and other unwanted pets out of homes. "I had a customer, she had roof rats," Settle recalled. "We did the job, fortunately. There was close to about 40 rats that were stuck in the attic when we did it." Photos sent to the WMC Action News 5 newsroom from another home show a dead rodent, covered in maggots, that was found in a Collierville residence. And that's not the only one. At another home in Collierville, Settle removed squirrels and rats, then sealed up parts of the roof with metal plates and screens near gutters. So why are these animals headed to Germantown and Collierville? "It's the vegetation, I believe," Settle explained. "They have a lot of nice trees and bushes, a lot more food." Roof Rat News Source
Roof rats need to be treated as vermin because they do carry and spread diseases. They transmit disease directly through contact. This happens when they contaminate food with their feces. They can also transmit diseases indirectly when fleas bite a diseased rat and then bite a pet or a person. It is a known historical fact that the bubonic plague was transmitted to humans from rat fleas. This was the cause of the Black Death in Europe, a devastating pandemic in the history of mankind. Roof rats can also bite people and pets thus transmitting the rat bite fever through a bacteria strain found in their mouths.
Roof Rats On The Rise In The Mid-South
(Memphis) The sound of footsteps on the roof this winter season probably isn't reindeer, but rather roof rats. A Mid-South pest management company says it's seeing a huge increase in the pesky rodents. Suburbs like Germantown are seeing huge spikes in calls year to year. What do you get when a mild summer follows after a warm winter? Pest experts say perfect mating conditions for rats. “They make a lot of them, 30 or 40 per year,” said Lanier James with James Pest Management. However, as colder temperatures move in so do rats, according to James. He says the rats will seek warmth in the attic and walls of your home. “The roof rat lives in trees, lives in vines, they'll live in vines,” he said. “They love to go in voids of that nature. They get in some unique situations in home.” James says homeowners get unnerved when a rat dies, filling a house with smell of decay, but ripping down walls to remove a dead rat can be expensive. There are various ways to get rid of roof rats depending on how severe the infestation is. In the most severe cases, professional exterminators may be called to access the situation and deal with the infestation. However, it is possible to contain the population of roof rats and even keep them out of the house entirely. Here are some simple ways to keep these pests away.
Make use of professional rodent exterminator services to lure them to snap trap or glue traps.
Sanitation – this is the single most important prevention and control measure to combat a rat infestation. Store food in tightly sealed containers, empty garbage bins frequently, declutter the garage, attic and other areas where roof rats could nest and clear vegetation around the home.
Exclusion – prevent roof rats from entering the home by trimming tree branches, caulk holes and crevices, screen air vents and make sure doors and windows fit properly in their frames.
Starve them out – pick up any fruits that drop to ensure the rats don’t get any food or water, don’t leave pet food out at night, keep garbage containers tightly covered and limit the use of bird feeders.
Memphis ranked #1 city for roof rats
Many Memphians may be experiencing some uninvited visitors. Terminix released a list of the top 10 cities with roof rat infestations, and Memphis has been ranked as number 1. Autumn is the most common season for roof rats because their outdoor food source has lessened. They are easier to distinguish from other better-known rodent relatives because of their long scaled tails. According to Paul Curtis, although roof rats usually stay out of plain sight, they are often times a sign of an infestation. Curtis also said they are most active at night and often leave smudge marks as result of dirt and oil. Roof rats tend to enter through buildings through holes, soffit vents, cables entering buildings and turbine and box vents of roofs. In October 2015, roof rats invaded Memphis suburbs, shocking residents. But that's not the only time Memphis has had roof rat infestations. In September 2016, several Memphians found roof rats plagues their homes again. Source - Roof Rats Invade Tennessee Suburbs

Mexico City, 24 November 2015 (PAHO)- The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and Mexican singer Lila Downs have launched the #ZeroMaternalDeaths campaign in order to mobilize the region of the Americas to reduce maternal deaths caused by postpartum hemorrhage, a leading cause of maternal mortality worldwide.
Countries in the region have significantly reduced maternal deaths since 1990, but more than 5,500 women die each year from complications related to pregnancy and childbirth, most of which are preventable. One in five of these deaths is due to postpartum hemorrhage.
The name of the initiative refers to the ambitious goal of reducing preventable maternal deaths to zero, which could be achieved with timely, respectful, and high-quality pregnancy and delivery care, as well as access to emergency obstetric care.
To address this problem, PAHO launched the Zero Maternal Deaths from Hemorrhage initiative in countries such as Bolivia, the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Haiti, and Peru, where there tend to be more deaths from hemorrhage.
Lila Downs has joined the project and will now be its official spokesperson. "I am partnering with PAHO on the Zero Maternal Deaths by Hemorrhage Project to do my part in reaching out to women and their communities so that these women have healthy deliveries, and more children will grow up in the presence and love of their mothers," she said, adding: "Awareness and education can save the lives of thousands of mothers each year from needless deaths due to complications during pregnancy or childbirth."
During the presentation of the campaign, which was held at the United Nations in Mexico, Downs and Ruiz spoke of the importance of mobilizing governments, health care providers, civil society, families and communities. "We all must do more to bring health care to women and address determinants that are outside the health system, including conditions at home or in the community, culture, education or transport. We all have a role to play in saving lives," Ruiz said.
The initiative aims to promote prenatal healthcare and humanized childbirth, improve quality of care through training on the management of obstetric emergencies, provide means for the transfer of patients with complications, and ensure the availability of safe blood.

For people with an average risk of developing colorectal cancer, the American Cancer Society recommends that screening start at 50, with one of five tests:
• An annual fecal occult blood test, or a new version called a fecal immunochemical test, to look for blood in the stool.
• Every five years, flexible sigmoidoscopy, in which a scope examines the lower part of the colon.
• An annual stool test with sigmoidoscopy every five years.
• A test involving a barium enema and X-rays every five years.
• Every 10 years, colonoscopy, in which a scope is inserted into the rectum to examine the entire large intestine.

I left because there was a single person from another group i didn't want to deal with. I'm not a prisoner to a group. I can leave if I wish. The only people upset about it are the people too immature to ask me personally why I went. I shouldn't be up at one in the morning crying over emails from people some 15 hrs later. A public declaration wouldn't have made things better. Everyone who wanted to know who was grown up enough to ask me knows why I left the group. The rest of you had no reason to take it personally. I added people as contacts so I could stay in touch. I didn't want to declare publically that I do not associate with one person who just rejoined because she acts like an immature little brat when she doesn't get her way. Because she singled me out and name called me a cheater when she lost a stupid game. That wouldn't have made things better would it? I left to avoid conflict. I'm not a prisoner but I've been told it wasn't my right to leave. I've been accused of starting trouble and drama where there wasn't any. Wiggy even called me a psycho off my meds. All I did was leave. You chose to take that personally when so many chose to take it like grown ups. It was a choice you made. No one tried or even considered ruining TGC. You people fabricated that. I just couldn't stay. It's as simple as that.
Here's the deal. I'm done feilding emails. I've had about 100 today and it's rediculous. I'm not in any groups with a particular person on my blocked list and I won't be. I don't even keep this person's contacts as my own except for 2 people I've known so long and I'm ready to let them go if this doesn't drop and remove them from any of my groups to make sure this one person never shows up where I am because I have a right to decide whom I will deal with. I've tried to be a grown up. Some of you have behaved very immaturely.
The use of chemical pesticides and fertilizers leads to water pollution because contaminated water seeps into ground water and runs off into nearby water sources. Natural pesticides that you can use include insecticidal soap and pyrethrum. Natural fertilizers include wood ash, grass clippings, and animal manure.

On February 2, Secretary McDonald and I will host a VA national summit on Veteran suicide prevention. Why a national summit? Because Veteran suicide impacts all Americans and needs to be addressed in a coordinated effort with government and community stakeholders. And, because all Americans, and VA in particular, have a duty to help Veterans suffering from the hidden scars of military service that lead them to think suicide is their only option. We must do better and this summit will help us to determine our future course.
The “Preventing Veteran Suicide – A Call to Action” summit will bring together VA and DoD leaders, mental health professionals, Veteran Service Organizations, Veterans and their families, and other key partners. These national leaders will direct their attention to how we can best help Veterans and their families access appropriate mental health services.
It will be an honor to welcome Susan and Richard Selke, as guests at the summit. Their son, Clay Hunt, was a Marine Corps Veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan who took his own life in 2011. Congress subsequently passed the Clay Hunt Suicide Prevention for American Veterans Act, which President Obama signed in February of last year. Their commitment to improving mental health care for Veterans like their son has been inspiring.
Also at the summit, Senator Elizabeth Dole will discuss the role of Caregivers and Dr. Ron C. Kessler of Harvard Medical School will deliver a presentation on “Researching Risk for Suicide among Veterans- What Are We Missing?” These are just two of the many supportive experts joining us for this important call to action.
We already know that America’s Veterans are at higher overall risk for suicide than the general public. Veterans suffering from conditions like posttraumatic stress, depression, insomnia, and chronic pain are particularly vulnerable. However, groundbreaking research shows us that Veterans who are fully engaged in VA care are at lower risk of suicide than those who are not. It is essential that information about resources for Veterans at risk for suicide is readily available to Veterans and those close to them.
We want Veterans to come to us, but we must also go to them and build effective networks of communication and care across communities and health organizations. We must be far more proactive and creative in our approach. I ask each of you to consider how you can make a difference.
I addressed our efforts yesterday in an op-ed that appeared in the Palm Beach Post and many other papers across the U.S. I encourage you to take a moment and read my op-ed.
I know that by discussing the many aspects of this unacceptable crisis in our Veterans’ lives, we will advance their care and treatment. I will report back to you with another blog following the summit. Thank you for all you do for Veterans each and every day.

A workshop on the prevention and response to gender based violence under the theme: "The role of media in preventing and reporting on GBV", is taking place at RNP general headquarters in Kacyiru.
Women Deliver 2023 - Side Event -
Preventing Violence against Women: From Evidence to Action: The event is co-organized by the World Health Organization and UN Women to advance commitments to prevent and respond to violence against women and girls as part of the Generation Equality Forum's Gender-Based Violence Action Coalition. Our panel speakers will share their experiences and insights on how to prevent and respond to violence against women and girls, using evidence-based strategies and tools. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in discussions and network with like-minded individuals, all working towards a common goal of ending violence against women and girls and creating a safer world for all.

As the global champion for women and girls, UN women will strongly collaborate with Women Deliver 2023 Global Conference, bringing together civil society and women’s rights activists; along with the next generations of changemakers, including youth and visionaries who were instrumental in building and driving the momentum of Generation Equality.
In 2023, Women Deliver Conference is taking place coinciding with the Midpoint Moment of Generation Equality – which will be held in September 2024 in New York. Convened by UN Women, the Generation Equality Forum (GEF) is an unprecedented global effort to accelerate investment and implementation on gender equality in today's context of stalled progress and regression. By bringing together diverse stakeholders from every part of society, Generation Equality aims to disrupt inaction, drive political will and accountability, and ensure that the bold ambitions of the 1995 Beijing Platform for Action on women’s rights are finally implemented, and the Sustainable Development Goals are achieved, leaving no one behind.
Despite some progress, real change has been slow. Multiple obstacles remain unchanged in law and in culture. As a result, women continue to be discriminated against, their contributions are undervalued, they continue to work more, earn less, have fewer choices, and experience multiple forms of violence at home and in public spaces.
The Women Deliver 2023 Global Conference will also be the scenario for UN Women and UNDP to launch the experimental twin indices: Global Gender Parity Index (GGPI) and the Women’s Empowerment Index (WEI) which provide a multidimensional measurement framework to guide national and international policy action, research and advocacy to diagnose the root causes of structural gender inequality, identify game-changers and spur further commitments. The WEI measures women’s power and freedoms to make choices and seize opportunities in life. The GGPI evaluates the status of women relative to men and exposes some of the remaining gaps in achieving parity between women and men.

I know that by discussing the many aspects of this unacceptable crisis in our Veterans’ lives, we will advance their care and treatment. I will report back to you with another blog following the summit. Thank you for all you do for Veterans each and every day.

A bulletin board in Mafraq Academy with photos of its students. Mafraq Academy is an informal, NGO-funded K-3 school. It is not officially recognized by the Jordanian government, but it still provides Syrian refugee children with some basic educational background and teaches them principles of fair play, respect, and healthy conflict resolution. The school can accommodate 150 students. On the first day of registration, Mafraq Academy's wait list had reached 300. Even more sobering is the estimate that over half of refugee children in Mafraq will never get to enroll in school.

My image for the project today is this one. It's so sad to know that this can be happening to a kid, right now.
