One of only seven Baha'i temples in the world, the Baha'i House of Worship in the northern Chicago suburb of Wilmette symbolizes unity and invites prayer to God, according to its Web-site description. In an effort to capture a nontraditional view of the temple, seen here in the background, I headed over to nearby Wilmette Harbor, where activity is beginning to pick up following a long, cold winter. This enabled me to claim two themes with this image for the Our Daily Challenge Group: “Symbol” and “Wet.” The temple is quite a magnificent structure, and I'll likely post a closer, more traditional shot of it in the future.

I have been thinking of something I could buy with some money that I received after the passing of my brother and I decided to buy myself something that I didn't really need, but have been wanting for a long time. I decided to buy a secondhand Canon 1DX and whenever I use it, I will think of my brother whilst doing something that I love.

Around a dozen present today but as the drizzle abated, the tourists appeared and the ouzels did the opposite.

As normal the ouzels were totally un-cooperative.

I shot this last night from my front yard without a tripod. It's by no means a great photo, but it is a shot of the full moon that is the brightest of 2008 because it is at perigee, the closest it gets to Earth in its orbit around it. In fact, it is the closest perigee since 1993, at just 221,560 miles from Earth. Its farthest apogee will be on December 26, when it will be 252,650 miles away.

I hope to catch up with you later, but I may be preoccupied with an unpleasant task: trying to stop a spoofer who, though one of my listservs, has appropriated some addresses, including mine (which is on a Mac!) and is using it to send virus-infected spam. If I don't get back to you today, please understand and know how much I appreciate your visits.

EDIT: I've learned that it was just one person who happens to be on the listserv whose address book was breached. Nevertheless, all the addresses in that address book are now in the hands of the spammer, even those that are on a Mac. There's little that can be done. Fortunately, I've been made aware of just one spam message containing a virus-infected attachment that was sent by a spoofer impersonating me, or using my address as the return address.

THE PRESENT TRWYN DU LIGHTHOUSE, OR KNOWN LOCALLY AS PENMON LIGHTHOUSE IS 29M TALL AND WAS DESIGNED BY JAMES WALKER AND BUILT IN 1835-1838. THE LIGHTHOUSE HAS A STEPPED BASE DESIGNED TO DISCOURAGE THE HUGE UPSURGE OF WAVES THAT HAD AFFLICTED EARLIER LIGHTHOUSES ON THE SITE AND REDUCE THE FORCE OF THE WATER AT THE BOTTOM OF THE TOWER.

AT PRESENT THE LIGHTHOUSE HAS A 15,000 CANDELA LIGHT THAT CAN BE SEEN 12 NMI (22 KM) AND HAS A WHITE FLASH EVERY 5 SECONDS. TRWYN DU LIGHTHOUSE WAS ORIGINALLY MANNED BY TWO LIGHTHOUSE KEEPERS, HOWEVER THESE WERE WITHDRAWN IN 1922 WHEN THE LIGHTHOUSE WAS CONVERTED TO UNWATCHED ACETYLENE OPERATION. THE LIGHTHOUSE WAS CONVERTED TO SOLAR POWER IN 1996, WORK TO MODERNISE THE STATION INCLUDED THE DEVELOPMENT OF A UNIQUE OPERATING MECHANISM TO WORK THE 178 KG FOG BELL, WHICH RINGS EVERY 30 SECONDS 24 HOURS A DAY.

Fog adds to the moodiness of this area and slips me back into a time past....love this area and spend a good deal of time wandering through here....especially when the moody element of the day or season is in full swing. Nothing like the charm of today and yesteryear to merge...

Thisr panel is about time and communication. The floating woman is the muse of radio and represents the middle of the day. Pegasus, the winged horse, moves in union with her. The torch she carries is symbolic of knowledge. The lightening bolt symbolizes the power of electricity and the immediate availability of radio communication.
