Looking NW in the Den. Studs are marked with blue painters tape. Floor was stripped around the baseboard so I didn't have to hassle with bumping up against it while sanding. Rosin paper is on the floor.
A kitchen mixer sits on a counter with a whisk attachment. In the background, fresh apples are placed in a bowl, indicating a baking task is about to start.
The growing season starts today, We need to prepare the garden. A pollinator garden is a garden that attracts pollinators by growing plants that produce nectar and pollen. These gardens help support pollinators, which are insects and animals that help produce food for humans. We are planting seed that is native to Oklahoma.
Potting bench, scraped. The white plastic thing is my furnace vent. Ask me sometime about ultra-high-efficiency furnaces, and why you can't vent them through a chimney...
My sons dug trenches in the garden, dug in compost, and cleaned up the yard. They are such a big help! This pic featured on my blog Family Earthprint:
Here are some turnips from last year! we missed, they survived winter! Most of them were soggy and ruined, but a few were ok.
We finally got the sod laid in the backyard. It looks SO great.
Ben is a champion. He filled in the entire pond with dirt, did all of the prepwork and ground clearing around the area.
And also, my lower back is KILLING ME.
You can see before picutres of the pond here. We really did love the way the pond looked and stuff but it was one problem after the other after the other. This way we have more backyard space to use and enjoy with MUCH less hassle.
The house never actually had doors installed in this archway. The pass through connected the den and the family room. I decided to add doors. They had to be special ordered since the doors on the first floor are 84" high. And, it was a serious hassle to trim to size at the top, hang, stain and apply three coats of poly. Side to side they fit almost perfectly. If I had to pull the jamb out to get them in I doubt I would have taken on the task. But they sure look good installed.
I cut and pieced all the rails and stiles before staining and sealing. I milled all this wood from some of the more choice floorboards that I pulled from the barn I tore down on my property. It's all pine. Like my workbench? It's an old door.
Half done countertop... still. Half painted wall... but I'm buying more paint! Chair, naked floor... chair...
Hill's mom is pour the sugar or "suga" (depending on where you are from) into the tea, making authentic southern sweet tea.
Time to paint the ceilings in the living and dining rooms. I detest painting.
Putting up tape and paper to protect the moulding. Boring!
