Greater Manchester Transport was formed in 1974, owned by the Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Authority. But in 1986 first the Greater Manchester Council was abolished; and on 26 October 1986, bus deregulation outside London led to huge changes that have echoed down to the current day.
One of the visible changes was that Greater Manchester Transport became GM Buses with effect from D-Day (deregulation day). Over a thousand buses were rebranded, with the first buses appearing during September. This entailed removing the old GMT fleetname and applying a new GM Buses name - usually using a vinyl sticker.
This photo was taken to show the changeover, although in practice very few buses were given as much care and attention as this one - in many cases the vinyl GM Buses logo was just stuck over the old one.
In other respects GM Buses looked a lot like GMT, although the market was now open for free competition and many routes changed dramatically.
There are two buses at the Museum of Transport Greater Manchester in GM Buses livery - a MCW 'Metrorider' and an Express double decker in a distinctive 'coral' colour scheme.

That metal plate sticking out over the water sure does look like a diving board, but for all I know this night heron is still standing there because I ran out of patience waiting for him to make the dive and had to get on with my day.

Snow storm Emma (01-03-2018):
Forecasters have taken the rare step of issuing a red weather warning alert - the highest level - for south-west England and Wales from 3pm today until 2am on Friday morning.
Snowfall will grow heavier through Thursday afternoon and evening with 10cm to 20cm likely to settle widely across red alert areas, Met Office chief meteorologist Paul Gundersen said.
Freezing rain is likely to create large, hazardous icy stretches as rain droplets supercool and freeze instantly upon hitting the ground.
Scotland has faced the brunt of bad weather so far this week but the worst is expected later in the south of the country.

I believe this is one of the worse jobs there's in this planet, the smell is just awful, those men dive into those huge puddles of caustic liquid almost unprotected from it.
we still have the scenerio of this kind,still the women of village do everything by their own hand.....still they use soil made stove for cooking.......even everything they do daily have the fragnance of soil of our motherland....they are making our culture and history more bold and flourishing........

Soldaten en volgers in vol ornaat maken hun opwachting in Bathmen. De werkgroep 'Bathmen spant de kroon' heeft samen met diverse groepen van de Napoleontische Associatie der Nederlanden een definitief programma samengesteld voor het nu snel naderende Winterbivak.
In 1995 vond de herbeleving van de Slag bij Waterloo plaats. Een aantal verenigingen uit Nederland heeft hieraan deelgenomen en heeft tijdens het evenement met elkaar samengewerkt. Op deze manier konden de verenigingen elkaar versterken en de activiteiten beter op elkaar afstemmen. Na de goede samenwerking werd besloten om de Napoleontische Associatie der Nederlanden (NAN) op te richten.
De NAN concentreert zich vooral op levende geschiedenis, ook wel re-enactment genoemd. De groepen geven het publiek een inzicht in hoe soldaten toen leefden en werkten, maar ook hoe het leven binnen de Lage en Gegoede Burgerij er uit zag.
Inmiddels is de NAN uitgegroeid tot 19 aangesloten verenigingen met een totaal van 320 individuele leden.
Voor allen geldt dat kwaliteit en veiligheid hoog in het vaandel staan.

Yesterday was incredible. It was snowing when I arrived & the wind was so cold my hands were numb. Despite this I saw all four species of reptile on Ashdown. The afternoon intermittent sunshine was perfect for hunkered down reptiles.
