Mount Everest, also known in Nepal as Sagarmāthā and in Tibet as ཇོ་མོ་གླང་མ Jomo Langma, is Earth's highest mountain. It is located in the Mahalangur mountain range in Nepal. Its peak is 8,848 metres (29,029 ft) above sea level. It is not the furthest summit from the centre of the Earth. That honour goes to Mount Chimborazo, in the Andes. The international border between China and Nepal runs across Everest's precise summit point. Its massif includes neighbouring peaks Lhotse, 8,516 m (27,940 ft); Nuptse, 7,855 m (25,771 ft) and Changtse, 7,580 m (24,870 ft).

A geodesic vertex or point is a sign posted that indicates a precise geographic position forming a network with other geodetic triangulation vertex.
The exact position of the vertex used to help develop scale topographic maps, both national and regional.
Spain has about 11000 vertex that are usually made by a pillar 120 centimeters tall and 30 in diameter supported by a cubic concrete base, all painted white. They are usually in high places and cleared from which you can overlook other similar points, which is why they are often in places that pose good views. Since 1975 are protected by the Law on Geodetic and Geophysical Signals.
Most of those in the coast have finished swallowed by the sea.

There is no precise geographical definition for ‘Cornwall’s Forgotten Corner’, but it is taken to mean, by local residents, all of the Rame Peninsula, as well as all of the English Channel coast area to the east of (but not including) Looe. The northern boundary of the corner is defined by the A38 road.
It is reputed to be "forgotten" because the area is effectively by-passed by Cornwall visitors, and is geographically remote from the administrative headquarters of Cornwall at Truro. It is over 50 miles away from the Cornish capital.
It is isolated due to its geography, as it is bounded by the English Channel, Plymouth Sound, the River Tamar and the River Lynher. Visitors have to double back on themselves after taking the main A38 road from Plymouth at Trerulefoot and onto the A374. There are no main railway stations within the area; the nearest is at St Germans, which has a limited train service. However, there is a frequent vehicular ferry to Torpoint from Plymouth, and a passenger ferry to Cremyll from Stonehouse, Plymouth. There is also a passenger ferry from Plymouth to Cawsand in the summer.
The area effectively became more remote when the then new Saltash Road Bridge on the A38 road was opened in 1961. Before the opening of this bridge, and the improvements to the A30 road from Exeter to Penzance, most road traffic entered Cornwall using the Torpoint Ferry, taking visitors directly into this area. After the bridge opened, and continued dual carriageway improvements were made on the A30 road, traffic travelling through this part of Cornwall reduced greatly.
The Rame Peninsula part of the Forgotten Corner is included in the Cornwall Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It is also steeped in history, with many military forts, and archaeological points of interest. The area is essentially rural, with the main industry being agriculture. It is also a residential commuting area for Plymouth. The area also has some of the wealthiest areas within Cornwall, as well as some of the poorest.

The elegant 1948 Talbot Lago T26 Record Cabriolet, exquisitely restored and detailed to perfection to show off its pre-war Art Deco origins. The shine was blinding.
As part of the backwash from the bankruptcy and break-up of the Anglo-French Sunbeam-Talbot-Darracq combine in 1935, the French part of the business was purchased by Tony Lago, an auto-industry entrepreneur and engineer born in Venice, but who had built much of his auto-industry career during the 1920s in England. The registered name of the company Lago now owned was "Automobiles Talbot-Darracq S.A.", but in the English speaking world it is generally known as "Talbot-Lago". The cars themselves were badged in their home market simply as Talbots, using the badge worn by products of the predecessor company since 1922 (when the "-Darracq" suffix had been dropped from the names used for the cars in France). Nevertheless, after 1945, sources even in France frequently used some form the "Talbot-Lago" name combination.
After acquiring the company in 1935, Lago rapidly developed a range of executive and sporting cars with engine sizes ranging from 2.3 to 4.0 litres. The passenger car range was complemented by racing cars and a high profile motor racing programme. The Talbot Lago-Record Type T26 launched in 1946, relatively quickly after the end of the war, closely resembled models from the 1930s such as the Talbot Major and Talbot Baby and benefited from the reputation Talbots had built up in the prewar years, though the economic conditions made it unrealistic to produce the range of standard and special-bodied Talbots that had been a feature of the previous decade. Tony Lago was joined in 1942 by an exceptional engineering talent, Carlo Machetti, and from then the two of them were working on the twin-camshaft 4483 cc six-cylinder unit that would lie at the heart of the Talbot T26.
The French government that came to power in 1945 had a strong belief in political control of the economy. In addition to creating a taxation regime which savagely penalised cars with engine sizes above 2 litres, the government also introduced in January 1946 the so-called Pons Plan, under which different French auto-makers were told by government what car types they might build. Since government also controlled materials supplies – notably steel supplies – the Pons Plan could not be ignored. Talbot were not forbidden to build cars, but they, along with Hotchkiss and Delahaye-Deage were restricted to a class entitled by the bureaucrats "véhicules de classe exceptionnelle" – high-class vehicles. Plan implementation was at its most rigid in 1946, and in that year Talbot received government authorisation for the construction of an initial batch of 125 cars, provided the cars were exported.
The Talbot Lago-Record Type T26 was first presented in public in 1946. In October of 1946, following World War II, Talbot-Lago had a small stand behind Peugeot at the Paris Salon. It was there that they introduced the brand-new T26 Record, offering in four body styles, including a convertible. It used the trademark pre-selector Wilson-type gearbox, had a fully independent front suspension with transverse leaf spring, and a new 4.5-liter six-cylinder twin-cam Hemi engine that Anthony Lago had developed during the War with Carlo Marchetti, his chief engineer. Lago increased the displacement of the engine to 4.5-liters, and added yet another new Hemispherical combustion chamber head, this time with twin camshafts operating the valve gear and positioned near the top of the new seven main bearing block. The long-stroke (93mm bore by 110mm stroke) six gave Talbot-Lago's new grand Prix racer, designated the Type 26 Course or T26C They were, however, immensely powerful machines, which often enjoyed a much better fuel economy than the competition. The combined strategy of precise sports car handling, durability, fuel economy, and power continued to earn the company class and overall victories culminating in the overall win in 1950 of the grueling 24 hours of LeMans!

The Dioscuri are the twins Castor and Pollux. Both were Léda's twin children, or more precisely false twins. Indeed, Castor was the son of Tindare and brother of Clytemnestre. Pollux was the son of Zeus and brother of Helen. Yes, it's a bit complicated, so Castor and Pollux were twins, born to different fathers.
Above all, remember that the Greeks as much as the Romans revered the Dioscuri. They symbolized the help given by young people of military age. And as they had often helped the Romans in their battles, they were particularly revered by the Romans. West of the Olympieion, up to Porte V, is a district of the city, with the remains of residential houses. From the north of this temple leaves a processional path that runs along the dwellings to reach Porte V and the "temple of Dioscuri". This name was arbitrarily assigned to it: ancient sources tell us, of course, that Castor and Pollux were honored at Acragas, but the latest research tends rather to link the twins to the one traditionally called "temple of Concord".
The "temple of Dioscuri" is a Doric temple periphers from the middle of the 5th century BC. J. - C., of plan similar to that of "Concorde". The southeast corner was reassembled in 1836 by sculptor Valerio Villa Reale and architect Saverio Cavallari. The crowning could come from temple L. This reconstruction is certainly very picturesque, and it has even become a symbol and one of the most photographed subjects in the remains of Agrigento, but it is refused from the professional world, which sees it as a mixture elements of different styles and different eras. Many remains of drums from the fluted columns that once formed the peristyle are scattered over the entire surface of the temple. We can also make out the remains of the altar on the east side.

Around 2:10 a.m. local time (1:10 a.m. GMT), the temperature in my neighborhood of Pozuelo de Alarcón dropped to -2°C (28.4°F) on the night of December 23-24, 2025.
Furthermore, due to the high humidity, the mist appeared, so I thought it was the perfect time to recreate the weather conditions under which Mary, in the Holy Family (according to Christian tradition), gave birth to Jesus.
However, the exact date of Jesus' birth is unknown, as is whether it was summer or winter, or even the precise year of his birth, which ranges between four and six years before the official date, taking into account King Herod's death.
The monk who calculated Jesus' birth date and established the "BC/AD" dating system... It was Dionysius Exiguus, a 6th-century Byzantine monk, who, in 525 AD, determined that Jesus was born in the year 753 from the founding of Rome, establishing the following year as Year 1 (Anno Domini).
Although his system was revolutionary, we now know that he was off by a few years, placing Jesus' birth around 4 BC, as modern studies suggest, due to errors in his calculations regarding the reign of Herod the Great.
Despite the contradictions, the official date, which is the date that gives reference to the origin of the current Christian calendar, has remained unchanged.
There are also various academic estimates based on astronomical events, such as the appearance of a comet (recorded by the Chinese in those years), which may have guided the Magi...
But also, originally pagan traditions such as the Roman Saturnalia, the celebration of Natalis Sol Invictus, the Jewish Feast of Dedication, which takes place on the 25th of Kislev, and the description of shepherds tending their sheep, lead us to believe it was winter.
However, it is difficult to definitively determine, with objective paleometeorological data, the severity or mildness of winters in that region at that time.
But it is certainly curious that the birth of Jesus of Nazareth occurred so close to the winter solstice (December 21st) and that someone so influential in Jesus' life, such as John the Baptist, was born very close to the summer solstice (June 21st).
In the first and second centuries, the Lord's Day (Sunday) was the first Christian celebration to include a series of theological readings.
In the second century, the resurrection of Jesus became a separate feast (now called Easter), and in the same century, the Epiphany began to be celebrated in the Eastern Churches on January 6.
The feast of the Nativity, which later became Christmas, began to be mentioned in the Western Church from the fourth century onward, especially in Rome and North Africa, although it is not known exactly where and when it was first celebrated. (Source: Wikipedia)

Louët island lies northeast of the town of Carantec. It is located in the bay of Morlaix, at the exit of the bay of Morlaix and more precisely between the tip of Penn-al-Lann and castle of Taurus.
Le château du Taureau
Following a Morlaix attack by the English fleet in 1522, it was decided to build a fort in the bay of Morlaix. However, to build such buildings on the coast, you need a license granted by King François Ier. Licence was granted in 1542 after an intervention of the Duke of Etampes. But no royal funding is provided. The fort was to be built on the money of Morlaisiens that will be repaid later when the kingdom's finances allow. As compensation, the King granted them the privilege of naming the governor of the fort and its garrison while ensuring its equipment and its treatment. This privilege is proving very expensive and, in 1620, the budget allocated to the management of the fort was 18 000 pounds.
In 1660, King Louis XIV takes back the fort from the Morlaisiens and integrates it into the realm of defense.
Vauban, architect-engineer visited the castle in April 1689 and found him in very bad condition. In a report dated 6 April 1689, Vauban give a description of the original fort before giving his project for reconstruction; this is the general project and ideas that will be used until the completion of the castle in 1745. "Doing all of stone. Choose the best stones on Isle Calot, hold their edge well, cut very neatly on the faces "ordered Vauban in 1689. The artillery tower was to defend the fort during its reconstruction. Vauban proposed to change the two floors and cut stone corbels to anchor in the old wall, repair all the embrasures of the tower and equip them with ports.
On the other part of the building, he wants to build a new fort of "good, solid masonry lime and sand." Profile "to be strong and robust, both because of the heavy seas which will be terribly beaten as the great height it is necessary to give so much to make it inaccessible to low water businesses, and give her flagship greater than that of all the vessels that pass by. " The French round will dominate the entire new fort. The four casemates of the old fort guns will be "relocated", a new vaulted low battery "ardoisines stones" will replace the old. The low doorways are intended, in the words of Vauban, "against the outside to hold the musket."
Work on the new high Taurus approved by Vauban beginning in spring 1689.
These are Simeon Garangeau Frézier and engineers who lead the reconstruction to an end.
Garangeau died in 1741 at the age of eighty-four, before he could finish the castle of Taurus. The last phase of work begins in 1741 and ends in 1745. The realization of the completion of the fort plans is entrusted to François Amédée Frézier King's architect engineer who is already working since 1717 on site. The castle was fully completed in 1745.

Every time I encounter an uncommon bird, I wonder why it was there, in that place and at that precise moment, when it could be anywhere else in this vast world and my own movements and coverage are very limited. The answer may seem simple, for example, it nests in the area, there is the food it consumes, but the way this happens is much less obvious and sometimes very sudden.
I remember that recently, in a forest on the border between Uganda and the DR Congo, after a superb day of observation which had allowed us to find some rare and sought-after birds, the excellent national park ranger who had accompanied us remarked that some of the species seen that day had not been seen for a month in that precise location, in the complete absence of rain during that period. It turned out that the rain had fallen only the day before our visit, and that the birds had returned.
This time in the forest northwest of Quito, part of the Andean Choco, it was this little parrot that appeared to us right at the edge of the trail, even though the species is only irregularly observed in this fairly frequented reserve. The reason for its presence at that moment was actually due to the sudden and brief appearance of a certain fruit that it favors and came to consume (and the traces of which can be seen on its beak), precisely in response to the onset of the rainy season in the region. Since the fruiting lasts only two or three days at most, the chances of the bird showing up at the same time as me at the edge of this trail were quite low, and I find that fascinating.
Overall, birds react very quickly to changes in their environment, as also evidenced by the ability of some shorebirds to move to water points to nest only a few days after they appear in the arid inland areas of Australia, following heavy rains and while they had been far away some time before.
Thus, for me, the people capable of observing the most birds are those who manage to interpret the current conditions and be there at the right moment, which is also true for photography, and I have a lot of admiration for those people !

It did occur to me, during the period that GBRF ran the Deltic "Royal Scots Grey" during late spring and Early summer in 2011, that the first, or last portion of its short journey from the Lynemouth Aluminium Smelter to the North Blyth Aluminia import silos, that this section of line ran along the coastal sand dunes. In fact there had been colliery tipping on the beach up to the end of the 1960s here from Cambois colliery. There is a picture of this in one of Colin Giffords books. And Gone Forever, plate 213 to be precise.
But there were scant few in the hundreds of photographers who turned up during that time who acknowledged this obvious fact. Well, you would have to arrive early, and not many then shot in dull conditions.
So a calculation was made. The sun would rise over the sea at an acute angle in the mid winter, and the train for Fort William left on Saturday at 09:02, around half an hour after sunrise. Prone to run a little early too..
Keep an eye on the forecast and go. So long as the empties ran the day the day before.
Postscript:
The Lynemouth smelter, which received three trains each weekday from here, closed in March 2012, leaving from then on two to three trains a week to Fort William from this terminal.

Sometimes the first picture is the best. I could leave this place alone but there is something here, there is not another place like it and its not just the sea and the structures. Its everything that made what it is now, and what it was before. Life feels different in the North. For all its economic inequalities, life feels better up here, the melancholic celebration of life in the North is symphony for the soul.

Salford Quays to be precise. Having a root around for some old images and decided to have a play at processing a few using software that I didn't have at the time. Turned out not bad even if I do say so myself :D
the sun is a sharp chisel, carving light into the tiled floor.
the shopping cart casts a shadow of industrial purpose, a precise grid.
nearby, the soft curve of another shadow, drawn by an unseen lamp.
it shapes the space, an artificial sun in an artificial world.
between form and function, a silent geometry of commerce unfolds.
Took this image from a 747 flying to San Francisco. Part of southern Greenland but no way of being more precise. A bit noisy and slightly distorted but not bad considering how dirty and frozen up most high altitude aircraft windows are.
Radiant by artist Nicky Assmann (1980, lives and works in Rotterdam), in TENT. Radiant is a dynamic ‘mobile’ sculpture in which optical patterns and colour effects appear, due to a precise balance between space, form, movement and light.
To be precise South of the River near the Thames Barrier. After an afternoon Karting by the river, I drove a few 100 yard along and back on to the Thames Path - amazing how the sky and lights looked during early evening, London at its best!
We're back in Thailand, and to be precise, in Ayutthaya, the former (and sadly destroyed) capital of Siam (then still the Kingdom of Ayutthaya).
This temple was built in 1357 by the first king of the Ayutthaya Empire.
The impressive 80-meter-high chedi (the bell-shaped sacred building in the background) was commissioned by one of his successors, Naresuan the Great, in 1592.
It was intended to commemorate a duel between the ruler and the Crown Prince of the Kingdom of Burma (on war elephants), from which Naresuan emerged victorious.
The Crown Prince was killed in the this fight.

(Fernando Pessoa, Livro do Desassossego, v.164)
[ES] Entre calles, sombras y ficciones
Contemplo calles, personas y piedras, entre ficciones y olvidos, inspirado en el poeta, quizás, percibo las sombras de los gestos de otros, la poesía del crepúsculo, una inquietud.

[ENG] Between streets, shadows and fictions
I contemplate streets, people and stones, between fictions and oblivion, inspired by the poet, perhaps, I perceive the shadows of the gestures of others, the poetry of twilight, a restlessness.
“...we are all equally derived from I don't know what, shadows of gestures made by someone else, embodied effects, consequences they feel.” (Fernando Pessoa, Book of Disquiet, v.164)
I noticed a Fork-tailed Flycatcher (Tyrannus savana) perched on a slender branch just as dawn’s light filtered through the canopy in Capurganá, Chocó, Colombia. Framing him slightly from below, I worked at 1/60 second and f/16, raising ISO 3200 to lift shadow detail without sacrificing clarity. Using an 800mm f/11 lens with a 1.4× extender, I compressed the lush greenery into a soft, creamy bokeh while capturing every delicate feather on his ash-gray body and jet-black cap. His V-shaped tail feathers stretched gracefully behind him, sharply defined against the diffused tropical light.
Working handheld beneath dense foliage demanded steady breathing and precise timing to freeze the bird’s subtle movements. Painting with light in those early hours meant balancing a moderate shutter speed and narrow aperture to preserve sharpness while revealing the fine textures of his plumage. This approach reflects my commitment to blending technical discipline with a deep respect for fragile edge habitats—inviting photographers to see how patient observation and careful exposure can reveal the hidden elegance of rainforest species.

John Lennon in Prague
This is no joke – John Lennon is in Prague – well, to be precise, his wall is in Prague although John Lennon himself never visited Prague in his short life. Are you confused? Let me explain it to you then.
In Mala Strana, near the French Embassy, you’ll see the John Lennon Wall. The wall that was formerly an ordinary wall in Prague has been called Lennon´s since the 1980s, when people have filled it with John Lennon-inspired graffiti and pieces of lyrics from Beatles songs. Why?
John Lennon and the Communist regime
Lennon was a hero to the pacifist youth of Central and Eastern Europe during the totalitarian era. Prior to 1989 when communism ruled, western pop songs were banned by Communist authorities, and especially John Lennon´s songs, because it was praising freedom that didn’t exist here. Some musicians were actually jailed for playing it!
When John Lennon was murdered in 1980 he became a sort of hero to some of the young and his picture was painted on this wall, for whatever reason right here, along with graffiti defying the authorities. Don’t forget that back then the Czech people had few opportunities to express their feelings with their lack of freedom. By doing this, those young activists risked prison for what authorities called “subversive activities against the state”.
But the threat of prison couldn’t keep people from slipping there at night to scrawl graffiti first in the form of Beatles lyrics and odes to Lennon, then they came to paint their own feelings and dreams on the wall.
The Communist police tried repeatedly to whitewash over the portrait and messages of peace but they could never manage to keep the wall clean. On the second day it was again full of poems and flowers with paintings of Lennon. Even the installation of surveillance cameras and the posting of an overnight guard couldn’t stop the opinions from being expressed.
John Lennon Peace Wall
The Lennon Wall represented not only a memorial to John Lennon and his ideas for peace, but also a monument to free speech and the non-violent rebellion of Czech youth against the regime. It was a small war of Czech people against the communist police who cleaned the wall.
At first glance the Lennon Wall is like any graffiti-covered wall you see around the world. But this wall is special thanks to its history. I’ve heard people saying that it is Pague’s equivalent of the Berlin Wall. They are not far from the truth. Some people also believe that the „John Lennon Peace Wall“ helped inspire the non-violent Velvet Revolution that led to the fall of Communism in the former Czechoslovakia in 1989.
In 1998 the wall had to go through reconstruction of its crumbling facade but the spirit of the wall lives on. It used to be covered in anti-Communist graffiti, now it is covered in messages of love and peace. The original portrait of Lennon is long lost under the layers of new paints but if you look hard enough you can still find tributes to Lennon and a yellow submarine!
The wall, located at Velkoprevorske Namesti, Mala Strana, is owned by the Knights of the Maltese Cross, who allowed graffiti to continue. It will be a symbol forever.
How to get there:
From metro station Malostranska (green line A) take trams no. 12, 20, 22, 23. The nearest tram stops to Velkoprevorske namesti are either Malostranske namesti or Hellichova.
TIME: is defined as the duration in which all things happen, or a precise instant that something happens.
TIMEPIECE: any device that measures or registers time.
and precise placement ...
The frozen stream of water (yes, it's water) reminds me of Halsman's famous "Dali Atomicus" photo. That is the only reason this photo reminds of Halsman's photo, let me be clear on that. For one thing, I didn't have anyone around to throw cats, and I didn't have any cats for anyone to throw. I am forever plagued by unpreparedness. One should always have cats around to throw.
Any relationship of this photo to Cartier-Bresson is just due to the moment in time concept, not to quality, again trying to be clear.
... or be too precise or scientific about birds and trees and flowers and watercraft; a certain free-margin, and even vagueness - ignorance, credulity - helps your enjoyment of these things.

Oak Leafroller(Archips Semiferanus)
Geez it's been a while since I have posted anything. Been a busy guy with other areas of life. I did take my camera out back for a while this week and found a few critters to photograph. This Inchworm (or Oak Leafroller to be more precise) will eventually cocoon and emerge as an Oak moth. Hope to be a bit more active over the summer months as Soccer Dad season winds down.
Thanks for visiting!
This is a boundary marker on the border of northern Montana and southern Saskatchewan. I'm not saying where. Here's a friend - I won't say who - straddling our two countries, perhaps illegally, perhaps not. I won't hazard a guess.
Whether the marker is on the precise borderline or not, I do not know. On the other side of the fence, 50 feet to the left, that's definitely Montana grass. No one need worry. We could easily slip under the wire, but there's nowhere to go and nowhere to hide, and anyway we aren't interested, because we like living on our own side.
But on the lighter side... I just found this in an external drive; a friend sent it to me. I guess it was making the rounds a few years ago. Titled "You Know You've Lived in Saskatchewan Too Long When" - and here are a few excerpts:
- Your idea of a traffic jam is ten cars waiting to pass a tractor and combine crew on the highway.
- You know who has to pay for the damage to your truck and the dead cow when you hit one.
- You've had to switch from "heat" to "A/C" in the same day.
- You realize all the festivals across the province are named after fruits, vegetables, grain or testicles.
- You install security lights on your house and barn and leave both unlocked.
- You design your kid's Halloween costume to fit over a snowsuit.
- Driving is better in winter because the potholes are filled with snow.
- Driving in winter is often simply a matter of staying between the fence posts.
- You have never owned a vehicle that did not have cracks in the windshield.
- You find -20* "a little chilly".
- You know someone who has shot themselves accidentally.
- You know someone who's lost their license due to an impaired charge and have seen their tractor or snowmobile parked at the local bar.
To be honest, these are not far from the truth. Actually they ARE true. I became very upset one day when I had to wait for TWO cars to pass while backing out of my driveway.

Morning view to the eastern side of Crast' Agüzza. We made the traverse along Bellavista to Piz Palü.
I did some research with my precise swiss maps and Google earth and was relatively sure that the huge massif at the horizon should be Gran Paradiso although I thought about Monte Rosa first given its shape and altitude. Anyhow, Marco who should know this region best told me (see below) that indeed it is Monte Rosa with its huge eastern wall.
Rotterdam is such a pleasant place in summer. It is not too hot or cold, and for architecture lovers it provides constantly new surprises. Here is the Maastoren, which is the second tallest building in the Netherlands. It looks nothing special itself, but together with the beautiful shapes and shadows of a nearby drawbridge, it comes to life.
It was at this precise location on June 7, 1983 that I initially determined just how quickly one could get from the top of an embankment covered in taconite pellets, to the bottom. It was an interesting ride. The three Chicago & North Western C628's have just brought a train of empty jennies up from Escanaba, MI and spotted them for loading at Empire Mine. That task completed they are now passing Palmer Line Junction, near Negaunne, cab lite and enroute to Ishpeming, where they will take legal rest before returning with a train of loads.
A large door with intricate design in historic Rome. The doors in Rome are big, bold and strong and they symbolize the strong desire Rome has to be one of the most innovative, economically and politically sound cities in the world. There were numerous terms for the door in Roman times. Ostium included both the doorway and the door. It was also applied to either of these, but fores and janua are more precise words for the door itself. Doors opened inward; outer doors were provided with bolts and bars. Locks and keys were heavy and clumsy.
I sought to capture that precise moment when modern architecture aspires to invisibility—those blank storefronts, empty, awaiting a brand that doesn't yet exist. By framing the solitary figure against this impeccable geometry, I wanted to question the nature of contemporary urban space: one that erases as much as it welcomes. What struck me was the contrast between the pedestrian's mobility and the frozen immobility of the storefront, between the everyday gesture and suspended commercial anticipation. Black and white seemed the only honest response: an absence of color to reflect an absence of meaning, a raw texture of concrete and glass that screams its silence.
When to Harvest Grapes
The precise time for picking grapes is dependent on the location, length of growing season, variety of grape, crop load and the intended use of the grape. Heavy crop loads take longer to mature. The optimum time for harvesting grapes will vary year to year as do environmental conditions — sometime after the berries turn color (veraison).
Color – Harvesting grapes for use in jellies or wine making must occur at just the right stage of maturity for maximum sweetness. Grapes change color from green to blue, red or white, depending upon the variety. Color is one of the indicators of ripeness. However, it is not the most reliable indicator, as many varieties of grapes change color well prior to ripening. Still, when completely ripe, the whitish coating on the grapes becomes more evident and the seeds turn from green to brown.
Size – Size is another gauge of the ripening of grapes. When mature, the grapes are full size and a bit less firm to the touch.
Taste – Hands down, the best way to ascertain if your grapes are ripe enough to harvest is to taste them. Sample the grapes three to four weeks prior to the approximate harvest date and continue to taste the grapes as they mature. Try to take samples at the same time of day from a variety of areas on the vine.
“At the sight of the crowds, his heart was moved with pity for them because they were troubled and abandoned,* like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few; so ask the master of the harvest to send out laborers for his harvest.”
- Matthew 9:36-38
