Somehow the landscape in Bavaria appears just as jewel-like and precise as pretty much everything else in Germany...
Today we're taking another look at beautiful city of Dresden before we head back to Prague.
To be precise, we're experiencing a fantastic sunset at the famous and, in my opinion, absolutely spectacular Semper Opera House.
This opera house, built in 1778, takes its name from its architect, Gottfried Semper, whose name was already known beyond the borders of Saxony.
In front of the entrance to the opera house, you can see the 13.5 m high (including the base) King John Monument, the regent who commissioned this building.
I recommend anyone who has the opportunity to attend a performance here (or at least take a guided tour inside). Because the Semper Opera House is just as spectacular inside as it is outside.
I'll be back here on Friday to see Tchaikovsky's "Swan Lake" again.

Photographed in the tranquil cloud forests surrounding La Minga Ecolodge, Valle del Cauca, Colombia, this female Long-tailed Sylph (Aglaiocercus kingii) offered a fleeting pause on a textured branch. The morning light filtered through the canopy, creating a natural diffuser that softened shadows and enhanced the emerald tones of her head and the warm copper of her breast. I composed with a shallow depth of field to isolate the subject, allowing the background to dissolve into a smooth green gradient, emphasizing her delicate form and plumage detail.
For me, this image reflects the value of patience and precise timing in wildlife photography. The subject’s brief stillness, combined with accurate focus and stability, allowed me to capture fine feather structure without overexposing the iridescence—a challenge when working with hummingbirds. The interplay of color, light, and bokeh aims to create a sense of intimacy with this elusive species while maintaining a clean, uncluttered composition.

Distant city: pandemic times
This is from a time when I took good photos (I think) but it was also one of the worst times, at the height of the pandemic, hundreds or thousands of people were dying every day, and I went out to take photos with two masks, alcohol, without touching anything, I walked for hours through the streets without drinking water, because I needed to record somehow what was happening.

This is the precise moment he bit me. It was my own fault. I saw a commotion outside and Camille (cat) was going after this juvenile chipmunk. I grabbed the little guy just as she was closing in, but I had the camera in my hand and decided to take a quick picture. Once he bit me, he wasn't inclined to let go. I shook him off onto a soft patch in the garden, but Camille was right there. So I picked him up again (some people are slow learners) and this time set him down in front of a known chipmunk tunnel.
I'm kidding about the rabies.
I hope.
Final rehearsal
Hemis (India) – It's not yet 2 p.m. At 3 p.m. sharp, in front of the tourists, the monks will perform a ritual dance performance. Offerings and donations from the faithful are no longer sufficient to finance the monastery's operations; it is necessary to diversify. The growth of tourism is a boon, but the monks must abandon the study of sacred texts for a few hours a day to become part of the entertainment industry.
In the photo, the monks are rehearsing the steps of a dance they will perform publicly for the first time, a dance that some of the dancing monks have not yet fully mastered. They told me what this dance was called, but it has a crazy name and I didn't remember it.

Although there is no precise geographical definition for the "Cornwall’s Forgotten Corner" it is taken to mean (by local residents) all of the Rame Peninsula, as well all of the English Channel coast area to the east, but not including Looe. The northern boundary of the corner is defined by the A38 road.
It is reputed to be "forgotten" because the area is effectively by-passed by visitors to Cornwall, as well as being geographically remote from the administrative headquarters of Cornwall at Truro, almost 50 miles away.
It is isolated due to its geography, as it is bounded by the English Channel, Plymouth Sound, the River Tamar and the River Lynher. Visitors have to double back on themselves after taking the main A38 road from Plymouth at Trerulefoot and onto the A374.
The area effectively became more remote with the improvement of the A30 between Exeter and Penzance, leading visitors to bypass the area altogether.
The Rame Peninsula, part of the Forgotten Corner, is included in the Cornwall Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It is also steeped in history, with many military forts, and archaeological points of interest. The area is essentially rural, with the main industry being agriculture. It is also a residential commuting area for Plymouth.
This image was taken from the roadside of the B3247 near Tregantle Fort, just as the morning sunshine disappeared behind a bank of cloud. Three weeks later it still has yet to return!
A quiet but precise moment on a Japanese railway platform.
From an elevated perspective, the conductor performs the final safety check beside a sleek modern train. The tactile paving lines guide the eye through the frame, contrasting with the smooth curves of the train’s body.
In Japan, even the smallest gesture before departure becomes part of a ritual of precision, discipline, and timing.
--
Is a species of passerines. Previously placed in the Turdidae family, it currently appears, along with other representatives of this family (particularly augers and wheatear), in that of the Muscicapidae. The male and the female are almost identical, with a crown, wings, upper and tail of brown color, a gray band on the sides of the throat, a white belly and the famous "red throat", more precisely of color. dark orange tending to red. Although its face and chest are more orange than reddish, this bird took the colloquial name of robin in the Middle Ages. This contradiction is due to the fact that the name of the color orange does not appear in Europe until the sixteenth century, by the distribution on this continent of the sweet orange (the fruit) reported at the end of the fifteenth century by the Portuguese of Ceylon and China.
The maximum age for a robin is 18.
And just like that we are back in Thailand (yes, if only it always happened that quickly). And to be precise, we are in the rainforest of Khao Yai National Park.
But at least we'll keep the bright red we saw on the poppies yesterday for another day.
Because what we see here is a beautiful male Red-headed Fire Trogon, which I was able to photograph here thanks to my very knowledgeable guide. His wife (that of the bird and not the guide) was also nearby. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get close enough to her to take a decent photo.
This beautiful bird is about the size of a blackbird and, like the blackbird, feeds on insects, beetles and larvae. And, as you can easily see, he absolutely deserves his name.

Black Kite (Milvus migrans 1.2-1.5m) accelerates in flight with tail feathers fanned for lift on the downstroke. Yes, they are not very black, but a hundred of them wheeling on thermals hundreds of metres up do look like black specks. I have seen them dive to take small pieces of meet held up at family barbecues. They are very agile, precise and skilful hunters.
Coronavirus (or, to be precise, our governments’ response to it) has deprived us the opportunity to travel for the most of 2020. Would 2021 be any better? It doesn’t look like that at the moment – so we have ample time to go back in time to happier days and revisit some of the shots we took then. I hope the colours on this photo will make you day a bit brighter.

Precise location no longer known. A photogenic species. Believe it or not this shot was not flash-illuminated. A widespread breeder in North and Central America.

Plas Cadnant Hidden Gardens
A historic garden under restoration, situated between Menai Bridge and Beaumaris on the Isle of Anglesey.
In 1996, the present owner bought the 200 acre Plas Cadnant Estate and work began on the restoration of the historic garden and grounds. Since then large parts of the gardens have undergone a spectacular transformation and have been restored to their former glory.
Described as one of North Wales best kept secrets is the hidden world of Plas Cadnant Gardens, situated at the side of the Menai Strait, hidden from view near to Menai Bridge on the Isle of Anglesey.
Former owners of Plas Cadnant were related to the Tremayne family of Heligan House, now famous for its Lost Gardens.
A new garden is being created on an historic site, becoming a plantsman's paradise. Now considered amongst the liveliest twenty gardens of Wales, and featured in a new book 'The Finest Gardens of Wales' by Tony Russell'. Also featured in 'Discovering Welsh Gardens' written by Stephen Anderton and photographed by Charles Hawes.
There is still much work to be done and we hope you will visit us in person or use the website to keep informed of our ongoing progress.
Three gardens in one
Three different gardens have been discovered, including an unusual walled garden with curving walls and pool, a secret valley garden with three waterfalls and river, and an upper woodland garden with stone outcrops and the remains of a 19c. folly.

On this Photohike at Neyetalsperre, light moved slowly across frost, moss and still water — never dramatic, always precise. The forest was silent, the air brittle, the sun low. Every step became a decision about patience.
This series is part of my long-term project Wanderspezi – the Photohiker, where hiking and photography merge into one deliberate practice.

We stay in the mystical forests for a moment and go back to Brückenwald in the bohemian Ore Mountains.
What you see here is an overgrown orchard.
To be precise, we are standing here on the property at house number 70 and looking towards 63.
Seeing something like this with a historical village map that one of my followers kindly made available to me is something completely different.
I am absolutely fascinated by it and am planning another excursion there tomorrow, weather permitting.
By the way, I found a map showing 1,300 abandoned or disappeared places in the Czech Republic (Streckenwald can also be found there). These are not only towns but also inns or factories. For anyone who is interested, the list can be found here: www.zanikleobce.cz.
I think once I've explored enough here, I'll visit one or two places from this list.

Carnac (Breton: Karnag) is a commune beside the Gulf of Morbihan on the south coast of Brittany in the Morbihan department in north-western France.Carnac is famous as the site of more than 3,000 prehistoric standing stones. The stones were hewn from local rock and erected by the pre-Celtic people of Brittany. Local tradition claims that the reason they stand in such perfectly straight lines is that they are a Roman legion turned to stone by Merlin (Brittany has its own local versions of the Arthurian cycle).
The Carnac stones were erected during the Neolithic period which lasted from around 4500 BC until 2000 BC. The precise date of the stones is difficult to ascertain as little dateable material has been found beneath them, but the site's main phase of activity is commonly attributed to c. 3300 BC. One interpretation of the site is that successive generations visited the site to erect a stone in honour of their ancestors.
