Miniature daffodils in a pot on the patio.
I was reading an article in Outdoor Photography magazine yesterday and admiring some intimate flower portraits which had a soft, dreamy aspect to them. I'd assumed it was post-processing but on reading found it was in-camera multiple exposures. I've only had the D800E since 2014 so hopefully could be forgiven for not knowing that it has such a facility! Anyway, this pot of miniature daffodils were the perfect opportunity to have a play myself. This is two frames, the first isolated a single flower and rendered it as sharp as I could with the lens wide open. I then defocused the lens and moved my viewpoint slightly to give a nice green-yellow diffusion across the whole frame. This is uncropped and as it came from the camera.
Incidentally, my Fuji X-T20 also has the facility albeit with a maximum of two frames compared to the D800Es ten frames. The big plus point for the Fuji though is that it superimposes the original image on the screen/EVF to make lining up the second frame more precise and it also allows you multiple attempts at capturing the second frame.

Warangal Fort, in the present-day Indian state of Telangana, appears to have existed since at least the 13th century CE. Although precise dating of its construction and subsequent enhancements are uncertain, historians and archaeologists generally accept that an earlier brick-walled structure was replaced with stone by Ganapatideva, who died in 1262, and that his successors – Rudramadevi and Prataparudra II – added to its height and added gateways, square bastions and additional circular earthern walls prior to the latter's death in 1323. This places the construction towards the end of the Kakatiya period. There were later modifications between the 15th and 17th centuries, comprising principally the addition of barbicans to the four gates in the stone wall and the creation of gates in the outer earthern wall.
Remnants of the structure can be seen today near to the town of Warangal, which was the Kakatiya capital. The Archaeological Survey of India has listed the remains as a Monument of National Importance.
_____________________________
The 12th and the 13th centuries saw the emergence of the Kakatiyas. They were at first the feudatories of the Western Chalukyas of Kalyana, ruling over a small territory near Warangal. A ruler of this dynasty, Prola II, who ruled from A.D.1110 to 1158, extended his sway to the south and declared his independence. His successor Rudra (A.D.1158--1195) pushed the kingdom to the north up to the Godavari delta. He built a fort at Warangal to serve as a second capital and faced the invasions of the Yadavas of Devagiri. The next ruler Mahadeva extended the kingdom to the coastal area. In A.D.1199, Ganapati succeeded him. He was the greatest of the Kakatiyas and the first after the Satavahanas to bring the entire Telugu area under one rule. He put an end to the rule of the Velanati Cholas in A.D.1210. He forced the Telugu Cholas of Vikramasimhapura to accept his suzerainty. He established order in his vast dominion and encouraged trade.
As Ganapati Deva had no sons, his daughter Rudramba succeeded him in A.D.1262 and carried on the administration. Some generals, who did not like to be ruled by her, rebelled. She could, however, suppress the internal rebellions and external invasions with the help of loyal subordinates. The Cholas and the Yadavas suffered such set backs at her hands that they did not think of troubling her for the rest of her rule.
Prataparudra succeeded his grandmother Rudramba in A.D.1295 and ruled till A.D.1323. He pushed the western border of his kingdom up to Raichur. He introduced many administrative reforms. He divided the kingdom into 75 Nayakships, which was later adopted and developed by the Rayas of Vijayanagara. In his time the territory constituting Andhra Pradesh had the first experience of a Muslim invasion. In A.D.1303, the Delhi Sultan Ala-ud-din Khilji sent an army to plunder the kingdom. But Prataparudra defeated them at Upparapalli in Karimnagar district. In A.D. 1310, when another army under Malik Kafur invaded Warangal, Prataparudra yielded and agreed to pay a large tribute. In A.D.1318, when Ala-ud-din Khilji died, Prataparudra withheld the tribute. It provoked another invasion of the Muslims. In A.D.1321, Ghiaz-ud-din Tughlaq sent a large army under Ulugh Khan to conquer the Telugu country then called Tilling. He laid siege to Warangal, but owing to internal dissensions he called off the siege and returned to Delhi. Within a short period, he came back with a much bigger army. In spite of unpreparedness, Prataparudra fought bravely. For want of supplies, he surrendered to the enemy who sent him to Delhi as a prisoner, and he died on the way. Thus ended the Kakatiya rule, opening the gates of the Telugu land to anarchy and confusion yielding place to an alien ruler.
The Kakatiya period was rightly called the brightest period of the Telugu history. The entire Telugu speaking area was under the kings who spoke Telugu and encouraged Telugu. They established order throughout the strife torn land and the forts built by them played a dominant role in the defence of the realm. Anumakonda and Gandikota among the `giridurgas', Kandur and Narayanavanam among the `vanadurgas', Divi and Kolanu among the `jaladurgas', and Warangal and Dharanikota among the `sthaladurgas' were reckoned as the most famous strongholds in the Kakatiya period. The administration of the kingdom was organized with accent on the military.
Though Saivism continued to be the religion of the masses, intellectuals favoured revival of Vedic rituals. They sought to reconcile the Vaishnavites and the Saivites through the worship of Harihara. Arts and literature found patrons in the Kakatiyas and their feudatories.

What3words provides a precise and incredibly simple way to talk about location. They have divided the world into a grid of 3m x 3m squares and assigned each one a unique 3 word address. For my 2019 photography project #johns2019photoproject, I will be using #what3words to find locations where at least one of the three word description has some relevance to the scene.
Scan of a print taken 19/08/89: I can be precise about the date, as these two snaps were taken during the lunch break of the first day of the final first class match played at the Central Recreation Ground in Hastings. (Despite being 4 for 3 wickets in their first innings, a century by M W Gatting set up a 9 wicket win for Middlesex against Sussex.)

Northern Premier League
Workington 1 Frickley 1
Atten 402
On two previous occasions i have got within touching distance of visiting Borough Park. To be precise it was 2.5 miles in 2013 and just two months ago only 2 miles. All this after many years of wanting to visit this historic non league ground. Well today i finally made it. I arrived in glorious Cumbrian sunshine only to see it looking fantastic.
The superb welcome given by the Clubs Officials made you feel at home immediately.
Borough Park is dripping in history. During the 1957/58 season they played the great Manchester United team known as the Busby Babes at home in the 3rd round of the FA Cup, attracting a record crowd of 21,000. This was just a month before eight of the United players lost their lives in the Munich air disaster, the same room a Frickley changed in today.
There are plenty of reminders of former manager Bill Shankly hanging proudly in the lounge. There is also plenty of fantastic steep terracing and spacious stands. I can only imagine what it would feel like to attend a big occasion night game here under the lights with a full house cheering the Reds on.
Frickley played really well, carrying on from their midweek thrashing of FCUM. In fact they they should have won it with three excellent chances in the last ten minutes, best of all the half-volley miss by goal machine Allott. It was just inches wide from sealing all three points for the team from the Yorkshire pit village.
Yes it has been a very long wait to visit Borough Park but it has been well worth it. Shame i did not have enough time to visit Workington Town Rugby League Club across the road, as it looks a fantastic ground. Not a problem really, as it gives me an excuse to return ...... as long as they call me "marra".
When was the world's first railway laid? No one is quite confident on a precise date but simple rails have been used to guide vehicles for centuries, definitely as far back as the middle ages and possibly even in ancient Greece.
What is certain is that in the early 1600s a Nottinghamshire businessman called Huntingdon Beaumont came to Northumberland and laid rails from collieries near Blyth to a shipping point on the coast.
His waggonway used horses hauling wooden waggons on wooden wheels on wooden rails, however this was not a financial success. It did though provide the spark of progression from primitive wooden rails over short distances, to a railway network which would change Britain and the world forever.
Tyneside Roads
From the mid 1600 onwards waggonways and the Tyneside coal industry became linked so closely that they were known throughout the rest of Britain as 'Tyneside Roads'. A network of lines linked collieries on both sides of the Tyne to the river.
It is no coincidence that the North East was the area where waggonways took greatest hold, because canal building was impossible due to deep valleys and steep hills. What set the rail systems of Tyneside apart from all others was its use of the flanged wheel - a key element of the modern railway as we know it.
A revelation
When the Tanfield Railway - or waggonway as it was known at the time - was built in 1725, it was a revelation. Its massive engineering was unlike anything else in its era, or even since the Roman Empire. It was a triumph of engineering over nature, a clear signal that a new industrial age was upon the world, and that railways would play a massive part.
First laid down more than a quarter of a century before the first railway officially sanctioned by government, over 75 years before the first steam locomotive and a whole 100 years earlier than the Stockton and Darlington Railway, the Tanfield Railway is the world's oldest railway. We will be the first railway to celebrate our tricentenary in 2025.
Portsmouth Historic Dockyard
The Mary Rose was a carrack-type warship of the English Tudor navy of King Henry VIII. After serving for 33 years in several wars against France, Scotland, and Brittany and after being substantially rebuilt in 1536, she saw her last action on 19 July 1545. While leading the attack on the galleys of a French invasion fleet, she sank in the Solent, the straits north of the Isle of Wight.
The wreck of the Mary Rose was rediscovered in 1971. It was salvaged in 1982 by the Mary Rose Trust, in one of the most complex and expensive projects in the history of maritime archaeology. The surviving section of the ship and thousands of recovered artefacts are of immeasurable value as a Tudor-era time capsule. The excavation and salvage of the Mary Rose was a milestone in the field of maritime archaeology, comparable in complexity and cost only to the raising of the Swedish 17th-century warship Vasa in 1961.
The finds include weapons, sailing equipment, naval supplies and a wide array of objects used by the crew. Many of the artefacts are unique to the Mary Rose and have provided insights into topics ranging from naval warfare to the history of musical instruments. Since the mid-1980s, while undergoing conservation, the remains of the hull have been on display at the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. An extensive collection of well-preserved artefacts is on display at the nearby Mary Rose Museum, built to display the reconstructed ship and its artefacts.
The Mary Rose was one of the largest ships in the English navy throughout more than three decades of intermittent war and was one of the earliest examples of a purpose-built sailing warship. She was armed with new types of heavy guns that could fire through the recently invented gun-ports. After being substantially rebuilt in 1536, she was also one of the earliest ships that could fire a broadside, although the line of battle tactics that employed it had not yet been developed. Several theories have sought to explain the demise of the Mary Rose, based on historical records, knowledge of 16th-century shipbuilding, and modern experiments. The precise cause of her sinking is still unclear, because of conflicting testimonies and a lack of conclusive physical evidence.
Paul Component Engineering makes some of the most precise and beautiful components in the world. They've been doing it for 20 years and they'll be doing it for many to come.
Based in Chico CA they're making the dream - pared back, entirely functional pieces which operate exactly as they should every time. It's this attention to craft and performance that has made Paul's work truly iconic.
The Cross Lever is simple and comfortable. It won't ruin the line of a bar and can be used either in-line (routing the cables through drops - useful in CX) or stand-alone. We carry it with a 26.0mm and in black or silver.
To be precise, the part of London I know extremely well, and which usually would feature in this photo-a-day series regularly throughout the year. However this year, I haven't been there since March, so did the puzzle to remind me.
And - while lots of it is spot on accurate, there has been a bit of artistic license applied to the corner of Whitehall and Parliament Square. While they have included the Drum (the central courtyard in Treasury building, and the glassed over Durbar Court in the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development office, instead of two neighbouring square buildings, they have been somehow conflated into one!

After seeing many incredible starry night photos on Instagram (@freaksplace_de,
danke für die Inspiration), I wanted to see if I was also able to create such captivating images myself. So I ventured out one late December evening (or night to be more precise) and managed to capture this shot. Although not even close to some of the images I have seen, I am very happy with the result, also given this is my very first try.
I have been wanting to try my hand at some astrophotography for a while now, and when a clear, moonless night presented itself last December, I went out to photograph some of them stars. So at about 1 in the morning I hop in my car and drive to Pobiti Kamani, or Stone Forest, only about 30 minutes away from where I am staying. After a lot of trial and error I managed to get a few shots that were halfway descent and after about 3 hours in -6°C (21°F) and loosing all feeling in my hands I decided to call it quits. It turns out that finding a composition and focus is extremely hard in almost absolute darkness if the display of your camera does not adjust with your settings.
After coming home I found out that actually making sense of all my shots was also a lot harder than I thought. Many internet searches and a few weeks later I had downloaded a program to help me, and had started experimenting. What I ended up with in the end was a stack of about 25 images of 20 seconds each, with varying brightness (lesson learned here, not good), spanning about 30 minutes in total. I also found that I liked star trails much more than just small dots for this photo.
What do you guys think, somewhat ok for a first try? Do you want to see more starry images?
Lee Krasnow had a booth where he was showing a number of amazingly precise wooden puzzles that he's constructed.

I've tried to make the paragraphs below shorter, but really...."precise"/"concise" aren't really my favorite english words. If you read the whole thing, kudos to you! Thank you for reading and viewing! Every single view really means alot to me :)
----------------------
I've had this idea in mind for quite a while and I couldn't think of a really good way to represent it. I'm happy, and also satisfied with the result, though I think that the composition isn't that original. When I imagined this photo I immediately thought of this: www.loubna.ch/upload/galerie/patrick-demarchelier.jpg taken by one of my favorite photographers , Patrick Demarchelier. It's not that they are exactly the same, but i'm sure there are alot more earlier works that have used this pose that I did before.
This photo took really really long to edit, because 1/ I was not fully naked so i had to replace the areas where I wore my clothes with my skin, 2/ photoshop decided to hate me and gave me a hard time in editing the background and 3/ this photo is so meaningful to me (probably the most so far) and so there are still parts of me that aren't fully satisfied with it.
I knew exactly where I was going while editing though, the artwork on my back (it's not a real tattoo by the way, though if i go wild one day i'll definitely have that on my back for real) is White Rose with Larkspur by George O'Keeffe. She's one of my favorite artists. I saw this artwork in the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and fell in love with it. I took a photo of the artwork and then used that for this photo.
When Georgia O'Keeffe painted White Rose With Larkspur, she said "Nobody sees a flower, really...So I said to myself - I'll paint what I see...but I'll paint it big and they will be surprised into taking time to look at it." Just like how she wanted people to see how beautiful flowers really are, I just hope we can really appreciate the way we look, and embrace the beauty that's been given to us. I believe every single person is beautiful in every single different way. Sure, I dream of having longer legs every night, but I love my legs, and I'll continue to love my body, my face, and my everything until I'm no longer alive.
All these years that I have been on flickr (about five, to be precise), I have never posted a picture of myself. Somehow, it scared me the fact of exposing myself, the fact of lending my image to the unknown world that internet is. However, I have been lingering a lot about this fear, and I realized it was nonsense. Specially if I consider the person I want to become. Someone significant, someone who outstands because of ideas: a writer, a photographer, a critic, a blogger, a visual artist. Though there are threats out there, just like in the streets, I can't just stay locked inside my house, inside my brain, inside my creativity.
I used to be a very active flickr user about three years ago. But because of some issues, I lost contact with all the beautiful people I had met here, and with photography. However, I plan to bring my flick back to life.
It is going to be difficult as I have a huge lack of time. However, I will try, and I will try to be proactive as well in all the other projects that I already have, and also the ones that I have in mind.
This picture will be like a symbol of commitment with myself.
About the picture, I would like to give some credits to Lexi. Though I am not very active on flickr, I have still been browsing through a lot of flickr galleries, among the ones was Lexi's. Her photography, and specially her self portraits have always inspired me. However, as you may infer from what I said at the beginning, I had lots of difficulties with self portraits. I wrote her an e-mail, expressing my admiration of her work and for a little bit of self portrait advice. She was incredibly kind, and her words definitely touched me. Her e-mail worked as some kind of milestone in my creative path. And here I am. I answered that I was going to try self portraits, and here I am. Thank you for the encouragement you were for taking this decision, which may sound silly, but is important for me.
I have a blog, but I write mostly in Spanish: catacronopio.blogspot.com and I also have a tumblr: sopaipillasconchancaca.tumblr.com

Recipe writers are cautioned these days to use precise
measurements, eschewing what we know as dashes and
pinches for fractions of teaspoons.
But there's nothing more precise than a pinch. It's the amount
you can fit between your thumb and index finger and still
make them touch.
Mix with your hands. Touch the spices. Taste from your
wooden spoon. Cooking is sensual; that means you need
to use your senses.
Cooking is by feel. We have gotten away from touching and
tasting instructions in our recipes. Writers say "salt to
taste," but they rarely encourage the taste part.

Cerita dongeng = Lagendary story....
Although it has not been launching, but it will become obsolete soon. The reason is it is still not precise enough. But the beauty of such sketch is it can let the audience understand better and faster if we compare this methodology with old traditional way of communication approach. It is still suitable enough if we channel it for our kindergarten kids, junior school & young learners at least via the games industries, comic and so on industries. Millions of people do not know even how our world and universal scene looks like, this includes me. If we do not understand roughly how it looks like even, the consequence of this simple concept is people may hardly understand how these molecules or viruses may appear around us.
As such without knowing the rough actual universal situation, I can not imagine how people may understand further this global climate can influent or become a major impact for each of us, our life, our happiness and every generation some more. Can they believe further all the lessons taught by the teachers in the schools?
If we do not try to reduce such problems, what consequences we may face then? I guess, human beings keep working and paying the bills, gaining a thoroughly tiring body everyday such as feel dizzy after visiting the hypermarkets, sleepy in the train, suffocated in high humidity area before we can have little life and happiness left.
Are these things all of us wanted in our life journey?
For those who do not alert enough about the hygienic requirements, they may tend to be trapped with certain disease easily based on " Nothing Comes From Nothing " principle.
What barriers are there now??
1. Information in put and output clarity problem??
2. Communication or language problem???
3. Legacy matters? Intelligibility problem?
4. The Universe problems are too complicated; it is totally beyond human beings control? We have to live as it is?
We are really thankful for all our world leaders who keep taking care of our countries and the world either partially or as a whole for such revolutionary transition. They keep challenging to educate and alert us, as the citizens on how and why global climate change.
How it changes, why it changes, how the global environment affects us. Isn't it good enough if we share further on how our universe and molecules look like further and how they affect us & our body instantly? We keep breathing thousands of molecules gas into our body every second? May be thousand of viruses as well... I can prove you further the content of the gas; trust me, in my coming soon slide. Is our air clean and safe enough?
Similarly we also eat everyday ....... no problem at all?
Deal or No Deal
What are our kids’ demands? How deep knowledge they can absorb?
What our whole world people expect to see?
Can we live well with obsolete kind of art, knowledge and technologies??? Is it risky enough if we persist so? What if we combine both of the old and new kind of information input? Won't it become better?
Can the truthful knowledge win people's heart steadily? I guess it will be accepted sooner or later. Our people become more and more educated; as such our people become more and more smart, they prefer to see realistic and truthful kind of information. They know well how to distinguish between the good one and the fake one. Normally good and genuine people will be very daring to prove their products with full facts. Otherwise, our audience will not spend time seeing our show or art at all. The main reason is they have limited budget in the pocket and limited time as well.
If they never support our presentation, can you expect them to buy our product in the near future then?
They can support sometimes just because they want to relax their mind, entertain their soul or hopefully they will spend their time helping them someday if possible. But in actual facts, they may either tease it or reject to accept so if they are able to see and access too many other options around the world.
What is our fate??? Does our God know? Can anyone help???
Can we live well in this competitive world?

Prora, Island of Rügen, Germany
Prora followed a very precise layout of initially 80 individual stairway blocks, all connected to the main entrance. This would give Prora a total length of roughly 6km along the Prorer Wiek beachfront. Every single room measure exactly 2.5m x 5m, some of them had connection doors for families. Prora could thus accommodate 20’000 visitors at once. Today unfortunately the majority of the blocks are no longer accessible to visitors, although some investors now do restore some sections to offer high-end flats to wealthy customers.
It was on a mid-week late afternoon when I walked pass the South Section of Prora.
The exposure was made off the wall on the first building. It was hazy due to high clouds and I used a yellow filter to give a bit more contrast to the scenery. The light post and the wall section to the left were kept purposely to give the viewer a better feeling of the length of the building, the last stairway block to the far right is approx. 500m away.
Prora remains today the longest housing building ever build on planet earth, this despite the fact that only half of it was eventually achieved. If you ever have the opportunity to visit Prora, don’t hesitate to do so, you will be in for a real treat.

Year of the Dragon - to be precise, 35 of them. That's the number of years that the 3-axle variant of the Dennis Dominator in its Dragon iteration operated in service in Hong Kong, so as February 2024 marks the start of the latest Lunar New Year, a good excuse to illustrate some of the type.
Following the initial batch of 20 short-wheelbase single-doorway examples, the first of an eventual fleet of 80 12 metre Dragons entered service from 1995 with Duple-Metsec bodywork assembled in Portugal by Salvador Caetano, their Alexander-style front ends blending in with the larger numbers of Olympians and similarly modified ex-Singapore Atlanteans, to present a unified appearance across the fleet.

Laser Eye Surgery Cost
Laser Eye Surgery Involves The Precise Reshaping Of The Cornea, The Transparent Window That Covers The Coloured Part Of The Eye. For Treatment To Be Permanent, It Must Take Place Beneath The Thin, Protective Outer Layer. This Layer Is Gently Moved Aside In Order To Let The Laser Do Its Work.
If You're Looking For An Alternative Option To Glasses Or Contact Lenses, Laser Eye Surgery Could Be The Ideal Solution. Laser Eye Surgery Is An Eye Treatment That Has Given Millions Of People Freedom From The Need To Wear Glasses And Contact Lenses.
There Are Three Fundamental Types Of Laser Eye Treatment: PRK, LASIK And LASEK. They Differ Only In The Way The Eye Is Prepared For Treatment. The Actual Re-Shaping Process Is Exactly The Same All Cases.
Laser Eye Surgery Guide
This Is The Complete Guide To Laser Eye Surgery. If You Are Thinking About Having Vision Correction Surgery Or Want To Know More About Any Of The Techniques Used Then This Is The Site For You. Laser Eye Surgery Is A Safe And Effective Method Of Correcting Visual Problems, Often Removing The Constant Need For Glasses. Our Guide To Laser Eye Surgery Aims To Cover All Your Questions, From What The Procedure For Laser Eye Surgery Involves, The Risks, The Benefis And The Different Types Of Laser Eye Surgery.
There Are 2 Main Methods Of Laser Eye Surgery Used Today : -
1. LASIK Laser Eye Surgery
2. PRK Laser Eye Surgery
The Major Difference Between The Two Surgeries Is The Way That The Stroma, The Middle Layer Of The Cornea, Is Exposed Before It Is Vaporized With The Laser. In PRK, The Top Layer Of The Cornea, Called The Epithelium, Is Scraped Away To Expose The Stromal Layer Underneath. In LASIK, A Flap Is Cut In The Stromal Layer And The Flap Is Folded Back.
This Guide Provides An Overview Of Laser Eye Surgery, Including Possible Complications Of Treatment.
Laser Eye Surgery Risks And Complications
The Risks Outlined Below Apply To Both PRK And LASIK Procedures. The Chances Of Having A Serious Vision-Threatening Complication Are Minimal.Infection And Delayed Healing: There Is About A 0.1 Percent Chance Of The Cornea Becoming Infected After PRK, And A Somewhat Smaller Chance After LASIK. Generally, This Means Added Discomfort And A Delay In Healing, With No Long-Term Effects Within A Period Of Four Years.
Undercorrection/Overcorrection: It Is Not Possible To Predict Perfectly How Your Eye Will Respond To Laser Surgery. As A Result, You May Still Need Corrective Lenses After The Procedure To Obtain Good Vision. In Some Cases, A Second Procedure Can Be Done To Improve The Result.
Decrease In Best-Corrected Vision: After Refractive Surgery, Some Patients Find That Their Best Obtainable Vision With Corrective Lenses Is Worse Than It Was Before The Surgery. This Can Occur As A Result Of Irregular Tissue Removal Or The Development Of Corneal Haze.
Excessive Corneal Haze: Corneal Haze Occurs As Part Of The Normal Healing Process After PRK. In Most Cases, It Has Little Or No Effect On The Final Vision And Can Only Be Seen By An Eye Doctor With A Microscope. However, There Are Some Cases Of Excessive Haze That Interferes With Vision. As With Undercorrections, This Can Often Be Dealt With By Means Of An Additional Laser Treatment. The Risk Of Significant Haze Is Much Less With LASIK Than With PRK.
Regression: In Some Patients The Effect Of Refractive Surgery Is Gradually Lost Over Several Months. This Is Like An Undercorrection, And A Re-Treatment Is Often Feasible.
Halo Effect: The Halo Effect Is An Optical Effect That Is Noticed In Dim Light. As The Pupil Enlarges, A Second Faded Image Is Produced By The Untreated Peripheral Cornea. For Some Patients Who Have Undergone PRK Or LASIK, This Effect Can Interfere With Night Driving.
Incomplete Procedure: Equipment Malfunction May Require The Procedure To Be Stopped Before Completion. This Is A More Significant Factor In LASIK, With Its Higher Degree Of Complexity, Than In PRK.
Problems With A Perfect Procedure: Even When Everything Goes Perfectly, There Are Effects That Might Cause Some Dissatisfaction. Older Patients Should Be Aware That They Can't Have Both Good Distance Vision And Good Near Vision In The Same Eye Without Corrective Lenses.
Common Symptoms After Laser Eye Surgery
Pain Or Discomfort
Immediately After The Procedure, Your Eye May Burn, Itch, Or Feel Like There Is Something In It. You May Experience Some Discomfort, Or In Some Cases, Mild Pain And Your Doctor May Suggest You Take A Mild Pain Reliever.
Blurred Or Hazy Vision
Your Vision Will Probably Be Hazy Or Blurry. You Will Instinctively Want To Rub Your Eye, But Don't! Rubbing Your Eye Could Dislodge The Flap, Requiring Further Treatment.
Glare And Light Sensitivity
In Addition, You May Experience Sensitivity To Light, Glare, Starbursts Or Haloes Around Lights, Or The Whites Of Your Eye May Look Red Or Bloodshot. These Symptoms Should Improve Considerably Within The First Few Days After Surgery. You Should Plan On Taking A Few Days Off From Work Until These Symptoms Subside. You Should Contact Your Doctor Immediately And Not Wait For Your Scheduled Visit, If You Experience Severe Pain, Or If Your Vision Or Other Symptoms Get Worse Instead Of Better.
Distortion Of Vision
Following Treatment Of The First Eye, There Will Be A Focusing Difference Between The Two Eyes. This May Also Cause Tension Headaches. These Symptoms Settle With Treatment Of The Second Eye.
Before Laser Eye Surgery
If You Decide To Go Ahead With LASIK Surgery, You Will Need An Initial Or Baseline Evaluation By Your Eye Doctor To Determine If You Are A Good Candidate. This Is What You Need To Know To Prepare For The Exam And What You Should Expect:
If You Wear Contact Lenses, It Is A Good Idea To Stop Wearing Them Before Your Baseline Evaluation And Switch To Wearing Your Glasses Full-Time. Contact Lenses Change The Shape Of Your Cornea For Up To Several Weeks After You Have Stopped Using Them Depending On The Type Of Contact Lenses You Wear. Not Leaving Your Contact Lenses Out Long Enough For Your Cornea To Assume Its Natural Shape Before Surgery Can Have Negative Consequences. These Consequences Include Inaccurate Measurements And A Poor Surgical Plan, Resulting In Poor Vision After Surgery. These Measurements, Which Determine How Much Corneal Tissue To Remove, May Need To Be Repeated At Least A Week After Your Initial Evaluation And Before Surgery To Make Sure They Have Not Changed, Especially If You Wear RGP Or Hard Lenses. If You Wear:
* Soft Contact Lenses, You Should Stop Wearing Them For 2 Weeks Before Your Initial Evaluation.
* Toric Soft Lenses Or Rigid Gas Permeable (RGP) Lenses, You Should Stop Wearing Them For At Least 3 Weeks Before Your Initial Evaluation.
* Hard Lenses, You Should Stop Wearing Them For At Least 4 Weeks Before Your Initial Evaluation.
You Should Tell Your Doctor : -
* About Your Past And Present Medical And Eye Conditions
* About All The Medications You Are Taking, Including Over-The-Counter Medications And Any Medications You May Be Allergic To
Your Doctor Should Perform A Thorough Eye Exam And Discuss : -
* Whether You Are A Good Candidate
* What The Risks, Benefits, And Alternatives Of The Surgery Are
* What You Should Expect Before, During, And After Surgery
* What Your Responsibilities Will Be Before, During, And After Surgery
You Should Have The Opportunity To Ask Your Doctor Questions During This Discussion. Give Yourself Plenty Of Time To Think About The Risk/Benefit Discussion, To Review Any Informational Literature Provided By Your Doctor, And To Have Any Additional Questions Answered By Your Doctor Before Deciding To Go Through With Surgery And Before Signing The Informed Consent Form.
You Should Not Feel Pressured By Your Doctor, Family, Friends, Or Anyone Else To Make A Decision About Having Surgery. Carefully Consider The Pros And Cons.
The Day Before Surgery, You Should Stop Using:
1. Creams
2. Lotions
3. Makeup
4. Perfumes

Union Major General George McClellan's plans for the Battle included precise, coordinated attacks on the left and right wings of General Lee's Confederate army. The Federals hoped that, with both flanks threatened, Lee would pull reinforcements from, and consequently weaken, his center. A concentrated thrust through the Southerners' middle could then split and destroy the Army of Northern Virginia. However, despite repeated orders to advance against Lee's right flank, Major General Burnside's 12,000 men were held at bay by about 450 to 500 determined Georgians perched on the bluffs overlooking the bridge. The stone for the bridge had been mined from the bluffs overlooking the creek. This left depressions in the hillside forming ready-made rifle pits to fire from in relative safety. Pictured here, the Antietam Creek quietly flows under the now peaceful Rohrbach or Burnside's Bridge.
Describing the ground and the valiant efforts of his tremendously outnumbered men, CSA Brigadier General Robert Toombs reported, "Its chief strength lay in the fact that, from the nature of the ground on the other side, the enemy were compelled to approach mainly by the road which led up the river for near 300 paces, parallel with my line of battle, and distant there from 50 to 150 feet, thus exposing his flank to a destructive fire the most of that distance.
At between 9 and 10 o'clock the enemy made his first attempt to carry the bridge by a rapid assault, and was repulsed with great slaughter, and at irregular intervals, up to about 1 o'clock, made four other attempts of the same kind, all of which were gallantly met and successfully repulsed by the Twentieth and Second Georgia...After these repeated disastrous repulses, the enemy, despairing of wresting the bridge from the grasp of its heroic defenders, and thus forcing his passage across the river at this point, turned his attention to the fords before referred to, and commenced moving fresh troops in that direction by his left flank."
Union Major General Ambrose E. Burnside would describe the battle in a similar fashion. His plan was to send a force downstream to ford the river and then, while Union soldiers stormed the Confederate front, the flanking troops would come in on their right and catch the small but well entrenched Confederate forces between the Federal hammer and anvil. "At 10 o'clock I received an order from the general commanding to make the attack. i directed Colonel Kingsbury, of the Eleventh Connecticut, to move forward with his line of skirmishers, and directed General Cox to detail General Crook's brigade to make the assault. General Rodman was directed to cross over at the ford below the bridge, and join on to the left of the command, which was to be thrown over the bridge. From General Crook's position it was found to be almost impossible to carry the bridge, and General Sturgis was ordered to make a detail from his division for that purpose. He immediately sent forward the Second Maryland (Lieutenant-Colonel Duryea) and the Sixth New Hampshire (Colonel Griffin), which regiments made several successive attacks in the most gallant style, but were driven back by the galling fire of the enemy. I then directed the batteries on the left to concentrate their fire on the woods above the bridge, and sent word to General Sturgis to detail the Fifty-first Pennsylvania (Colonel Hartranft) and the Fifty-first New York (Colonel Potter) to assault the bridge and carry it at all hazards. In the mean time Colonel Crook had brought a section of his battery to bear upon the heights just above the bridge. General Sturgis, by a judicious posting of these two regiments in rear of a spur which fronted the bridge, succeeded in protecting them from the enemy's fire until they reached the crest of the spur, at which point they commenced their charge and carried the bridge at the point of the bayonet at about 1 o'clock, the whole division following immediately."
CSA Brigadier General Robert Toombs would lament the lack of response to his request for reinforcements. He felt that, with a small force of men, he could have kept the Union soldiers from crossing downstream and held the men in blue in check. "Not being able to get any re-enforcements for the defense of these two fords, and seeing that the enemy was moving upon them to cross, thus enabling him to attack my small force in front, right flank, and rear, and my two regiments having been constantly engaged from early in the morning up to 1 o'clock with a vastly superior force of the enemy, aided by three heavy batteries, the commanding officer, Lieutenant-Colonel Holmes, of the Second, having been killed in the action, and the only remaining field officer, Major [Skidmore] Harris, being painfully wounded, and fully one half of this regiment being killed or wounded, and the Twentieth having also suffered severely in killed and wounded, and the ammunition of both regiments being nearly exhausted, and Eubank's battery having been withdrawn to the rear nearly two hours before, I deemed it my duty, in pursuance of your original order, to withdraw my command and place it in the position designated."

Or to be more precise, the Owl nebula (M97) and close galaxy companion M108. Although Lord Rosse's original drawing shows the Owl's eyes as having a star in each one, the camera shows that the two most prominent stars in the nebula are actually either side of one of the darker patches and nowhere near the other.
