It is the Japanese tradition to write down their prayers and wish on a wooden plat shown in the photo, in the hopes that it can be "heard" by the spirits.
L. Dorji, one of our drivers, gives this prayer wheel a turn on entry to Punakha Dzong. Prayer wheels are always turned in a clockwise direction so the text of the chant ca be read as it rotates past a viewer.
