God calls his people to act as his hands and feet and voice, serving the people in the community and communicating to them, in Word & Deed, God's love. Part of Faith Community's action in that way includes making weekly trips to Wenceslas Square to pray for the city, and to speak God's love into the lives of the people who find themselves there.
These are inspired by Tibetan prayer flags, which Buddhist monks hang on the high steppes so the prayers printed on them can be whisked into the universe with help from the elements. I wanted something more culturally relevant than Sanskrit sutras, so I made my own with icons of the hand-made and the natural world. Flags are 9x6 inches each, cut from repurposed bedsheets, and zig-zag stitched to selvage from rolls of upholstery fabric. Images are painted with hand-cut stencils in water-based, low VOC spraypaint.

This was taken just outside of the Chapel at the Santa Barbara Mission. We all stand in need of a little prayer.

Spinning prayer wheels earns merit. Each bead on a prayer bead necklace represents a mantra. When his finger slides to another bead, this man will move on to another prayer.
Some ragged prayer flags on location at the Kagyu Mila Guru Stupa near Questa, NM. My daughter and I were able to take a little time to stop and enjoy the wonderful sights and sounds at this beautiful and holy place. The flags almost were singing as wind made them flutter in the cool breeze. I was also able to get an opportunity to work on a little DOF with this photo.
We all went to a bike race in Solvang. My good friend starts out his day with prayer as we get dressed to ride. I have my camera and the surrounding and early morning light are unbelievable. This is shot at a very low resolution and is shot far out on a 24-70 lens so it's soft on the focus and looks painted ; but this is how the photo looks. I just did a bit of cropping.
