From Wikipedia...

"In public worship, intercession is offered as prayer for the world beyond the immediate vicinity and friendship networks of the church community. As such, intercession constitutes part of the worshipping community's engagement with otherness, as it expresses Christians' solidarity with those who are 'other' than themselves. In so doing, a church both appeals to, and seeks to embody, God's own love for the world."

Prayer stones like these are traditionally used by some Shia Muslims to rest their heads while prostrating during prayer. Shia is a branch of Islam prevalent in Iran. Pouran Jinchi transformed these prayer stones, which originate from the holy city of Mashhad, Iran with cobalt blue and white lacquer paint reminiscent of a glaze developed in Iran during the ninth century. The artist's addition of Arabic calligraphy and decorative elements emphasizes the stones' spiritual and ritual purpose of focusing meditation on God during prayer.
