Prayer wheels at a temple. Hinduism and Buddhism have mixed, in Nepal, so that their elements are indistinguishable.
This Buddhist prayer "temple" of sorts is right smack in the middle of the grounds in front of Caesar's Palace. On one hand it is irony at its best, and on the other hand, it is a beautiful symbol at its best. There are prayer benches, plus incense and matches in a small box on the opposite side of where this photo was taken.
A brilliant device - spin the wheel, and it send a prayer to the heavens each turn. - Some have the prayer inscribed a thousand times around the wheel, so each spin sends up a thousand thoughts!
Like prayer flags, the wheels form an unusual form of prayers. A paper scroll containing the prayers is placed inside the wheel. Each turn of the wheel is believed to be as effective as reciting the sacred texts. The wheel is also believed to represent the "Wheel of Dharma (law)".

A prayer flag is a colorful panel or rectangular cloth often found strung along mountain ridges and peaks high in the Himalayas to bless the surrounding countryside or for other purposes. Unknown in other branches of Buddhism, prayer flags are believed to have originated with Bön, which predated Buddhism in Tibet.

What Is Prayer?
.
Prayer is communication with God, either in thought or in spoken or written words. Just as our relationships with friends and family grow and deepen as we spend time together, time interacting with God deepens our relationship with Him.
Prayer gives us direct access to God’s listening ear, as well as His love, strength, wisdom, and comfort. It’s a way to express our love, confess our sins, and bring our requests to Him.
Prayer also is a time for hearing from God. As we pray, the Holy Spirit guides us in decisions, comforts our sorrows, and lavishes His love on us.
God already loves and accepts us unconditionally, so we never have to fear reaching out to Him in prayer.
If God Already Knows Everything, Why Do I Need To Pray?
Prayer is key to the depth and health of our relationship with God.
In Luke 11:1, Jesus’ followers said, “Lord, teach us to pray…” Jesus responded with a model for them (and us) to follow. That model shows not only the basics of praying but also the necessity of praying.
Jesus wants us to pray because He wants us to know God intimately. He commanded and modeled prayer repeatedly as He traveled and taught His followers how to know and communicate with God. Just like the people who followed Jesus while He was living on earth, we can learn from His reliance on prayer. Jesus’ followers saw how He needed time alone to talk with God, to rest, to receive direction from God, to find peace after conflict, and to be loved as only God can love us.
