NORFOLK, Va. (May1, 2014) - Rear Adm. During the prayer breakfast, members offered prayers, read the Bible, and took part in song and fellowship.Kibben said that the nation is stronger because of its faith and shared the example of Daniel in the Old Testament who persevered in prayer, obedience and service despite adversity.The National Day of Prayer was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the U.S. Congress and was signed into law by President Harry S. Truman, according to nationaldayofprayer.org. It is an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May for which the president issues a proclamation encouraging people of all faiths to pray for the nation."I invite the citizens of our nation to give thanks, in accordance with their own faiths and consciences, for our many freedoms and blessings, and I join all people of faith in asking for God's continued guidance, mercy, and protection as we seek a more just world," said President Barrack Obama in his presidential proclamation of the National Day of Prayer 2014.

Here is the prayer shawl in progress. It is a checker/basket weave pattern that I am enjoying knitting. With each stitch in the three stitch repeat I chant "Maiden, Mother, Crone" Which means to me: Maiden of Light, Mother of Love, Crone of Wisdom. Near the middle most stitch (because it is an odd number of stitches) is my Infinite Healer Stone .
When I reach it I say a prayer of blessing that has come to me through meditation: "Powers that Be bless this shawl through me. May it provide comfort and warmth when it is sought in the coming healing months ahead for ****." I wanted a prayer that was "non-denominational" as while our beliefs are similar they are not the same.
