This is a series of 17 photos, please continue below - Nan Puoto Temple in Xiamen, China where I live is one of the main tourist destinations. Tour buses never stop arriving. It is a cacophony of people and prayer amid beautiful buildings. The oldest parts of this place go back to Taoism, shrines in little mountain caves etc, about 2,000 years old. It is one of China's 3 main temples to the Goddess Kuan Yin, also understood as one of the faces of Buddha. The temple is at the base of a small mountain and faces the sea.
I, however, go there to be alone. Because early on I had friends who were monks and even met with a teacher of Buddhism, I have access to the quieter parts of this gorgeous place. That's why, though you've seen so many of my photos of NanPuoto, they never include people. Also I think it is a spiritual intrusion to photograph people in prayer. But the tourists do it all the time, so a few days ago, after the silence of the lotus pond when the light was still nice about 7 AM I decided to show you what other people do at NonPuoto Temple.
this Christmas tree was filled with prayers and thanks from the people, there were little yellow or white card angel shapes you could write your prayers or thanks on and add to the tree

A prayer wheel is a cylindrical 'wheel' on a spindle made from metal, wood, stone, leather, or even coarse cotton. Traditionally, the mantra Om Mani Padme Hum is written in Sanskrit externally on the wheel. Also sometimes depicted are Dakinis, Protectors and very often the 8 auspicious symbols Ashtamangala. According to the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, spinning such a wheel will have much the same meritorious effect as orally reciting the prayers. It is said that prayer wheels are used to accumulate wisdom and merit or good karma and to purify nativities such as bad karma.

NORFOLK, Va. (May1, 2014) - Rear Adm. Margaret Kibben, chaplain of the Marine Corps, speaks with Marines, Sailors and civilian Marines of U.S. Marine Corps Forces Command during a prayer breakfast at the Camp Allen mess hall during a prayer breakfast in observance of the National Day of Prayer on May 1. During the prayer breakfast, members offered prayers, read the Bible, and took part in song and fellowship.Kibben said that the nation is stronger because of its faith and shared the example of Daniel in the Old Testament who persevered in prayer, obedience and service despite adversity. The National Day of Prayer was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the U.S. Congress and was signed into law by President Harry S. Truman, according to nationaldayofprayer.org. It is an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May for which the president issues a proclamation encouraging people of all faiths to pray for the nation."I invite the citizens of our nation to give thanks, in accordance with their own faiths and consciences, for our many freedoms and blessings, and I join all people of faith in asking for God's continued guidance, mercy, and protection as we seek a more just world," said President Barrack Obama in his presidential proclamation of the National Day of Prayer 2014.

I would close my eyes, breathe deeply and blow…so many prayers for so many years were left at Your feet. Petitioning. Pleading. Finally, resigning…not giving up, mind you, resigning. Resigning to rest in the knowledge that You know more than me and that’s good enough. You created me…you know how desperately I wanted to be a mother.
In perfect timing, you brought, Isabella Noel (fist beautiful gift) then Sophie Claire (clear wisdom). Mother’s Day will always remind me of the road I’ve traveled. I am truly, truly, blessed beyond measure.
Tibetan prayer flags marking a cliff 700m above the ocean. It goes steep down from this ridge. A fantastic, trippy viewpoint above Valle del Rey.
These prayer flags are very far from home...

Musicians from parishes throughout the Diocese of Grand Rapids attended the annual Evening Prayer and Blessing of Musicians which took place at the Cathedral of Saint Andrew Sept. 18, 2018. The event, with Bishop David Walkowiak presiding, was hosted by the Grand Rapids Chapter of the National Association of Pastoral Musicians, and took place in the context of sung Evening Prayer, with a renewal of the musicians' commitment to service following the homily. A reception was held afterward in the cathedral's parish family center.
