This is one of the upper rooms in the original part of the Gurdwara. The two men in the foreground are reading prayers of thanks for the completion of the Gurdwara. The large posters on the way tell the history of Sikhism from the middle 1400s to the modern era.

Giant prayer wheels in the Ghoom Monestary,Darjeling,India. By spinning the giat wheels (drums) the prayers are sent heavenwards. I believe they are spin continuously 24 hours a day every day of the year. They are bronze coated with gold leaf.

these three 2 metre-high paryer wheels were discovered by the North Sikkim Highway, enclosed in a tiny shack built over a stream, where the force of the water could be utilised to turn the wheels. (On each turn of the wheel a prayer goes up to heaven, thus creating Good Karma... or so they say... I wonder what the historical Buddha would have to say if he saw such attempts to effectively automate the process of enlightenment...)

Prayer wheels are found all over Tibet. When the wheel is turned, the prayers inside and carried into the air, earning merit - or good karma for the person turning the wheel. This prayer wheel house was made at Kagyu Samye Ling Monastery in Scotland - Europe's oldest and largest centre for Tibetan Buddhism. Our final destination was the monastery at Hemis, which was off the highway and up into the mountains. This monastery and many others in Ladakh were much like the ones we've visited in other Tibetan Buddhist countries, at least to our eyes. The Ladakhi monasteries were generally set higher in the mountains though and had expansive views.

ʿAbd al-Wahhāb ibn Aḥmad al-Shaʿrānī 1493-1565, a Shafi'i scholar & mystic; founder of the eponymously named Sha'raniyyah order of Sufis.
The original zawiya (prayer hall) for al-Sha'rani was built during his lifetime by Qadi 'Abd al-Qadir and, in addition, comprised a complex of mosque, madrasa, takiyyah & accommodation for the sheikh & his family.
After his death the tomb was built in 1567 which is the only original structure & contains the tombs of al-Sha'rani & his son.
