1909 Nicholas Power Co. Model 6 Cameragraph @ the Screening of the 1925 restored "The Phantom of the Opera" film at the Fox Theater in Hanford, CA. The restored version add several minutes to the film, including the technicolor scenes. Music was by Dean Mora on the Mighty Wurlitzer Theatre Organ.
According to Luciano on Nitrateville.com: The basis for this print was the 1929 reissue. However Joe Rinaudo put some missing footage back in from 16mm prints (one being a Show at Home print) to bring forth some continuity that was lost in the 1929 cut. On top of that, many titles were restored that also brought some incoherent plot back to life. This was done by working from the original shooting scripts and other artifacts that gave a guide as to where these added scenes would go. The color scenes are also intact and in color, so you will be able to see the full 2 strip Technicolor scene in all her glory.
The garden scene takes place between Christine Daae and Viscomte de Chagny after the scene in her chamber in which she hears the Phantom and is told to foreswear all worldly concerns for her art. It is after this scene that she tells her lover that he must forget her and that she is committed to her music forever. In the garden scene, de Chagny learns that Christine has a muse (or Spirit of Music) that she believes has been sent by God in response to her prayers. None of this was in the 1929 print that Joe started with, but has now been restored.

Prayer sticks at the Tsurugaoka Hachimangu shrine. Shrines are related to the indigenous Japanese religion of Shinto, the belief that kami spirits reside in all elements of nature including trees, rocks, rivers and mountains. The wall is a tribute to Tom Hendrix's great-great-grandmother, a Yuchi who was born in what is now NW Alabama. She was removed int what became known as the Trail of Tears, but eventually walked back all the way from the Oklahoma territories. His wall was built one stone at a time, just as her journey was made one step at a time. And just like her journey, it winds, has high spots & low spots.
He has rocks from 127 States, countries & islands, including stones from the Arctic & Antarctic, the top of Everest, & the bottom of the ocean. I'm planning to send him some mahogany obsidian from Northeast California, maybe several others from my collection.
It has received recognition as a significant piece of environmental art. The wife of Alabama's Governor Bob Riley wanted to turn it into a tourist destination, but Mr Hendrix refused. That's not what the wall is about.

Kathmandu is a one-of-a-kind city. Many people I've met who have been there didn't like the city because of how dirty it is. Personally, I loved Kathmandu. I took this photo at Swayambhunath, affectionately and appropriately called "Monkey Temple," because of the hundreds -maybe even thousands - of monkeys that inhabit the grounds. Located on a hill west of the center of Kathmandu, one must climb 365 steps to reach the main level of the complex. The monkeys, which varied from cute and curious to frightening and aggressive, were one of the highlights of my visit to Swayambhunath. Here we see a mother and her young sitting atop a row of Buddhist prayer wheels.
Taken at the Wailing Wall, or Western Wall, in Jerusalem this past August. I guess this Yankee fan did not pray hard enough!! My son Jake put a note in the wall right next to that guy. Jake's a Red Sox fan, and I wonder if his note was in opposition to the prayers of this Yankee fan??
This is one of several groups that I saw, who came, some of them obviously families, to say a prayer at the protest.
A new Planned Parenthood Abortion Clinic in Aurora, Illinois, has caused quite a conflict, within the community. Protesters (informational picketers) have stationed themselves outside the building. It has been an item of discussion - people at work who live near the clinic, and various others have mentioned it in conversation with me. Thinking of myself as a documentarian, I stopped by a couple of times, took a few pictures, talked to the cops who patrol the area, and chatted with the picketers.
There are evidently 3 types of responses they've seen. Drivers that honk their horn, wave, or perhaps give a thumbs up. Drivers that give them the finger perhaps shouting non-supportive speech, and then there are the drivers that try to ignore it, and pass by quickly - uncomfortable with the situation.
