His interest in production extends to industrial manufacture and 3D printing techniques, as well as handcrafts such as pottery and glass blowing. “Often I do things without any practical knowledge. I make one piece and move on to another one. I don’t need to dominate over materials. My objects are surfaces, with no inside or outside, only holes”, the artist has said. “I abandoned early on the idea that art is a personal expression. CCH (Chorley Community Housing) is looking for a creature that isn't often spotted on the streets of Chorley - a green guinea pig. In fact, they're looking for a dozen of them!
We are seeking tenants who’d like to cut their heating and lighting bills and who are happy for the Association to provide expert hands on advice on how to do it. The reward for tenants who agree to take part would be lower energy bills and the opportunity to pass on the tips that they learn about being greener to other tenants.
Resident Involvement Officer Billy Roberts (pictured) explained: “We'll soon have installed new boilers or upgraded the central heating in almost two thousand homes in the past three years. What we haven’t been able to do is to provide detailed practical help to make sure that tenants are using their new systems as efficiently as they might. So we’re looking for people who are prepared to act as guinea pigs and help us devise ways of supporting them to be more energy efficient.”
Through practical support and advice over a period of months, CCH aims to make sure up to a dozen tenants are getting the best use out of their heating systems and taking advantage of other energy saving measures such as using low energy light bulbs. The “guinea pig” tenants would then be asked to pass on their practical knowledge to others in their community so that everyone benefits. The landlord is hoping that reduced carbon emissions will be the result.
Regional Manager Mike Murphy said: 'Energy prices continue to rise and we see this as a win-win situation, with reduced costs for those who take part and the opportunity to give something back to the community at the same time.”

Over the years I've visited a lot of the Wright Brothers exhibits including the Air & Space Museum that houses the actual Wright Flyer and the Wright Brothers preserved home. Somehow I'd forgotten how much of their work was actually done at Kitty Hawk however... I'd sort of smirked at the friendly rivalry that North Carolina has with Ohio about which state has the proper claim to "owning" the achievement of the birth of the airplane since so much of the development of the airplane took place in Ohio. I had thought that North Carolina was just a spot for the brothers to practice what they'd researched.
In fact an enormous amount of research was conducted at Kitty Hawk, putting practical knowledge to the test and then making changes and improvements to further refine the Wright's understanding of aeronautical engineering, ultimately leading to the first true airplane.
The display here is an exact replica of the 1903 Wright Flyer, which despite being the first working airplane only actually flew four times. This model was superseded by the next evolution in the Wright's engineering development.

Twenty-two staff members of the Cooperative Bank of Kenya participated in KIWASH’s training on water sector financing held on March 16 in Nairobi. The KIWASH technical finance advisor and a water sector regulatory expert provided participants with practical knowledge on understanding the water sector, financing opportunities, the importance of USAID’s Development Credit Authority (DCA) guarantee and other available credit enhancements to reduce lending risk to the sector.
Through DCA, USAID shares risk, or guarantees loans from commercial banks like Cooperative Bank of Kenya to water utilities in order to improve water access and quality.
KIWASH provides training to help increase utilization of the guarantee by commercial banks that have signed the guarantee for lending to the water sector. The Co-operative Bank of Kenya signed the guarantee in September 2016.
During the training, KIWASH shared information and helped clarify to the bankers a) an overview of the water sector and key resources on creditworthy water service providers (WSPs) b) financing opportunities in the sector and case studies of projects successfully financed c) examples of a financing proposal and prospects.
After the training, participants who included the head of corporate banking, legal officer, senior corporate managers, small and medium enterprise relationship managers, and risk analysts drew up action points towards lending to the water sector. The bankers said that they were now able to offer water companies solutions tailor made to their needs. Further, they would review and reconsider proposals from water companies that they had previously declined to finance due to limited knowledge on the nature of the sector.
“This training has demystified the sector to me and shows there are untapped opportunities for lending to the water sector”, said Grace Rimui, Acting Head Corporate Credit Analysis.
KIWASH, in collaboration with the Water Services Regulatory Board (WASREB), plan to conduct similar training for other commercial banks in Kenya to create awareness about USAID’s DCA guarantee and opportunities for financing the water sector.

On Friday, April 1, 2016, Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) in partnership with the Innovative Agricultural Research Initiative (iAGRI) and John Deere launched the Tractor Training & Research Program, aimed at improving practical knowledge of farmers in the region and increasing agricultural production through mechanization. The launch was hosted at SUA’s Department of Engineering Sciences and Technology and attended by approximately 300 participants including farmers, private sector companies, extension workers, students, faculty, input dealers and traders. The new partnership is supported by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) under Feed the Future, the U.S. Government’s global hunger and food security initiative.
During my undergraduate studies, I completed an internship at the flotation plant of the Zinc Complex in Dandi, Zanjan, Iran. This valuable experience allowed me to gain practical knowledge of mineral processing operations, particularly the flotation techniques used for zinc recovery. I became familiar with various stages of the process, including crushing, grinding, reagent conditioning, and the flotation circuits that separate valuable minerals from gangue. Working alongside engineers and operators, I observed how process parameters such as pH, reagent dosage, and air flow rate influence flotation performance and concentrate quality. This internship not only enhanced my technical understanding of zinc beneficiation but also provided me with hands-on exposure to the challenges of operating an industrial-scale plant.

Idea: I was pretty confused with this one, because everyone seems to take this to mean technology, but it doesn’t. So with that definition in mind I realised that this tree could be made out of just about anything that was systematically placed or worked to form the shape of a tree in a far more skilled/difficult manner, or it could be number meaning no 6 "Technological". I thought I’d cover both.
This is my "Technological" or "Technology" tree.
Process: I made this tree from a whole lot of CDs that I placed on a table to form the shape of a stylised tree. Then I turned off the lights and tried to use the camera flash from above them to get a the best colour and light reflections from the CDs. The hardest part was getting the flash angle right.
