This is proof that one doesn't always have to have a college degree to earn a great living in one's chosen profession, especially when the majority of the populace has no practical knowledge when it comes to said profession.
Once again, my lack of experience when it comes to indoor plumbing bit me in the ass when I was forced to call a plumber to fix two leaky showers. Last night, the shower knob in the second upstairs bathroom broke in our roommate's hand after she had turned it on just enough to start a trickle of water. I proceeded to take off the access panel behind the shower to turn both the hot and cold water valves off, but it still continued to leak. I tried like hell to pry off the shower knob's cover to reveal the screw behind it, but the asshats that built this house decided that gluing it on would be a swell idea. With a sigh (and after about 20 minutes of cursing) I gave up and decided it'd be best to leave it to the professionals before I did any damage. While I was going to have a plumber come anyway, I figure I'd let him fix the small drip in the master bathroom shower which, for some insane reason, doesn't have a convenient access panel to the valves whatsoever. Thanks again, homebuilder.
The guys that came were actually really cool and they didn't mind me asking a thousand questions so that I could learn from the experience. But more importantly, they didn't totally rake me over the coals for the amount of work they did.

In a Romanian language class for Ukrainian refugees, the question arose: "What is Moldova like and what are its people like?" Their enthusiastic responses spoke volumes about their experience and integration into Moldovan society.
Meet Zinaida Nerubașcenco, a resilient 70-year-old, recalls her escape from the war-torn Donbass region, arriving in Moldova with only a small suitcase. Moldova embraced her with open arms, offering assistance and empathy at every turn. Moldovans' welcoming nature made her feel at home, and the Romanian language classes played a vital role in overcoming fear and anxiety.
For Sofia Prisăcari, settling in Bălți with her Moldovan husband and daughter meant embracing the language and culture of her new home. Learning Romanian became a priority for her, as she envisions a future within Moldova's borders. She sees her daughter growing up bilingual, bridging her parents' native languages and the language of the country they live in.
These language classes, organized by the European Union and UNDP under the "Mayors for Economic Growth" initiative, have empowered refugees to integrate further into Moldovan society. By offering practical knowledge and fostering connections, the program equips participants with the tools they need for their daily lives.

Circuit Design
This week I actually went to the Library. I mean, this is not a normal occurrence, just so you know! I've been studying electrical installation just to add to my knowledge; my dad is a trained electrician and though he wasn't working in that trade throughout my childhood, I have watched and worked with him over the years on different projects he did at home, at his offices or volunteering. I needed to do something a little more extensive than the average DIY'er might ordinarily endeavour, so I studied the law to find out what my restrictions were, then started studying the wiring regulations and technical requirements. Having studied physics and mathematics at college certainly helps, but it is the practical knowledge of having observed my dad's work and different domestic and commercial installations, whether through necessity or curiosity, that helped me to grasp the material. And yet it remains a subject that baffles and bores others. Oh well...

It ranges from one month TTC to 5 year PhD programs.

Applicants came from many different countries and institutions, all sharing a great desire to become citizens of The Fictional State of Mind. The busy office was almost overwhelming and put the permanent embassy staff under a lot of pressure. Many became citizens; but some were denied citizenship if they couldn’t leave their fixed personality at the gates of the fictional frame.
On the last day, the celebration of All Fictions Day, all new citizens and the permanent embassy staff shaped a procession with the Ambassador and The Imaginary girl in front, moving through old Copenhagen down to the canal, where old fictions were sacrificed through ritual and new fictions celebrated through Dionysian feasts.

Over the years I've visited a lot of the Wright Brothers exhibits including the Air & Space Museum that houses the actual Wright Flyer and the Wright Brothers preserved home. Somehow I'd forgotten how much of their work was actually done at Kitty Hawk however... I'd sort of smirked at the friendly rivalry that North Carolina has with Ohio about which state has the proper claim to "owning" the achievement of the birth of the airplane since so much of the development of the airplane took place in Ohio. I had thought that North Carolina was just a spot for the brothers to practice what they'd researched.
In fact an enormous amount of research was conducted at Kitty Hawk, putting practical knowledge to the test and then making changes and improvements to further refine the Wright's understanding of aeronautical engineering, ultimately leading to the first true airplane.
The display here is an exact replica of the 1903 Wright Flyer, which despite being the first working airplane only actually flew four times. This model was superseded by the next evolution in the Wright's engineering development.
