CCH SEEKS GREEN GUINEA PIGS!
CCH (Chorley Community Housing) is looking for a creature that isn't often spotted on the streets of Chorley - a green guinea pig. In fact, they're looking for a dozen of them!
We are seeking tenants who’d like to cut their heating and lighting bills and who are happy for the Association to provide expert hands on advice on how to do it. The reward for tenants who agree to take part would be lower energy bills and the opportunity to pass on the tips that they learn about being greener to other tenants.
Resident Involvement Officer Billy Roberts (pictured) explained: “We'll soon have installed new boilers or upgraded the central heating in almost two thousand homes in the past three years. What we haven’t been able to do is to provide detailed practical help to make sure that tenants are using their new systems as efficiently as they might. So we’re looking for people who are prepared to act as guinea pigs and help us devise ways of supporting them to be more energy efficient.”
Through practical support and advice over a period of months, CCH aims to make sure up to a dozen tenants are getting the best use out of their heating systems and taking advantage of other energy saving measures such as using low energy light bulbs. The “guinea pig” tenants would then be asked to pass on their practical knowledge to others in their community so that everyone benefits. The landlord is hoping that reduced carbon emissions will be the result.
Regional Manager Mike Murphy said: 'Energy prices continue to rise and we see this as a win-win situation, with reduced costs for those who take part and the opportunity to give something back to the community at the same time.”
