w/b 2/3 - The picture is an old warehouse by the docks in Ramsey, Isle of Man. I really liked the battered look of the building when I was there, and was disappointed with the original shot (see comments as usual).
This one took quite a bit of time for quite a subtle effect, but I'm quite pleased with the result...:
- Used the Perspective tool to add width to the top of the building
- Used the pinch and whirl tool to correct the resulting buldge
- Used the scale tool to give some hight back (it had started to look a bit chubby!)
- Adjusted the levels and saturation to bring the colours out and add some contrast
- Added a new layer with the sky on (from the same day to keep the lighting as accurate as possible)
- Selected out the blown-out sky and turned the inverse into a mask
- Tweaked the edges of the mask (this is the bit that took the time) using the airbrush to try and make it look as natural as possible
- Tweaked the colour balance to remove some of the blue cast (still visible on the white building the the right)
- Sharpened using the un-sharp mask filter
- Cropped to remove some of the distractions left and right.
Phew!
This is the rear end of one of the many species of duck that can be found in Central Park. While many ducks are content to flip upside-down and forage for food while keeping their rear ends raised above the water, this species of duck would fully dive and surface some distance away from its starting point. This made tracking it nearly impossible.
I was lucky when it resurfaced relatively near to my location, yet it dove again very quickly. I thought I'd missed it entirely, but was pleased by this end result. The ripples in the water created by the duck are also quite pleasing. Technically this scene can be attributed to the lens' extremely quick autofocus performance (wave motors are superb) and the high shutter speed (1/2000).
Shot with an E-520 and Sigma "Bigma" 50-500mm f/4.0-6.3 APO DG HSM lens with lens hood mounted. This was shot at 500mm (1000mm in 35mm film terms), hand-held and braced against a railing. Image stabilization may have been disabled for this shot (I can't remember). No cropping has been performed to the picture, although it has been straightened by 3.7˚. Aperture was locked at f/8 in order to afford near-maximum sharpness with the lens; ISO was locked at 1600 to keep shutter speeds up (sunlight shone through around this point and dramatically increased the speed). Some adjustments were made to the image in Apple Aperture 2, and finally the image was scrubbed with Noise Ninja to remove some noise (although it arguably was unnecessary).
Very happy to go retro in postprocessing of this living artifact that served in the Pacific Theatre of World War II - including over the Ryukyu Islands which some 70 years later are once again controversial to the point of requiring airpower. Now about the Piper L-4J which according to www.ruudleeuw.com/usa14-hff.htm, Historic Flight’s Piper L-4J was delivered to the US Army Air Force on June 8th 1945 as S/N 45-4955. The brand new L-4 was sent straight to the Pacific Theater where it served on the Philippine and Ryukyu Islands.
After VJ Day, 45-4955 remained in the Pacific until 1947, where it was decommissioned on the Island of Okinawa and joined the civilian world as NC68935.

'War' a 1906 sculpture by Bertram Mackennal (cast in bronze) inspired by the Roman goddess of war, Bellona.
She stands, in the sculpture gardens of the Australian War Memorial in Canberra, beside The Lone Pine Tree, grown from a pine cone collected at Galipoli (at the time of the Battle of Gallipolli) by a young soldier who's brother died in the battle. He sent a pine cone home to his mother and she saved it for over a decade before planting the seeds from the cone. Two trees grew from the seeds and she gave one of them to the Australian War Memorial. It is awesome...

Postprocessing includes stamping away the folds from my backdrop coz I think they're ugly. I added the poster edges filter and overlayed it to the original image adjusting opacity level to reduce lines that were too harsh; I only wanted to define some outline. I also punched the levels and saturation to get a better exposure since I had poor lighting when I did the shots.
Anyway, I have no idea if the ties go criss cross like that or the normal way up and behind the neck. This way look cuter though, but looks kinda something you'll wear to a fashion pool party or something. And it sort of chokes.

當然，騎快和騎好看不一樣
但我覺得兩種風格都很好，只要能讓自己開心
最重要是開放的心靈、正面思考的能力
自己往往才是限制了自己

Built between 1898 and 1930 as a sanatorium for lung diseases, Beelitz-Heilstätten (German Wikipedia entry) was one of the largest hospitals in and around Berlin. It served as a field hospital in the two world wars and was later the Soviets' major military hospital in East Germany. Abandoned in 1994 with the Russian withdrawal, most buildings have slowly fallen into ruins since. What a shame.
