As is evident, I'm far behind in posting photos here. This batch is all from May 2022. Only almost 6 months late. But I will get caught up, some day.

Most of this batch exhibits many of my perfect shoes, perfectly or nearly perfectly worn as I like them. The warm weather also has me often wearing rubber footwear of various styles. Over the summer I added to my collection of rubber footwear of various makes. More of those photos will soon come.

I've had these Nike Prestos for many years. They've been disintegrating for a while. I glued them back together a couple of times, but the last time I got them out, they just fell apart.

So, now I've "repaired" them by stapling the uppers to the soles, for now just one staple in the middle of each shoe. The repair seems successful, I wore them shopping afer tking these photos.

The black part of the outsoles still dangle and pieces have broken off, but I kind of like that, it adds to the "character".

I've found that stapling works well for some disintegrating shoes like these. It is simple to do and if it is in the wrong place, pull the staple out and try again. Shoes like these often won't stick to glue for long, if at all.

After a comment on the last but one posting of mine, by 'jupiler64', I rummaged out this shot of a bus which I thought might have been the same one. Anyway, turns out that it isn't, but as I'd turned it up, I thought that I'd post it. 340 NKT, another ex Maidstone & District AEC Reliance is seen in central Sheffield in the ownership of famous Independent Booth & Fisher of Halfway. This operator of many wonderful aged omnibuses had recently been acquired by South Yorkshire PTE, who were to sweep away the majority of the inherited gems and replace them with less elderly buses from their constituent fleets shortly afterwards.

Here he is in his playful stance...that ball was after him !! He is 8 lbs.

Just some announcements and info.

While I am still posting on here it's not as much as I'd like. I'm starting to post my better artwork on DeviantArt. So as the year goes on you might not see me on here as much. I'll still post when I can and remember to, but I suck at remembering to post and such.

Also I'm in the process of deciding to continue post ONE chapters on here after book 2 (There are 5 books in total.). If I decide this I'll only post chapters on Wattpad.

Finally, if your interested in seeing my cosplays, or just want to keep in contact somehow I'll be putting my Social Media info below. ;D

posting this so i remember how ridiculous the snow was this night; it was falling in chunks rather than flakes

A very early version with wooden shapes (later to be rubber and then plastic)

I'm usually cautious about posting photographs I haven't taken. In this case I don't even know who released the shutter.

But I do know that this is the house that Jim built. He's here holding his little daughter, born in 1926 so it's a safe bet that it was taken in 1927. That's what the folklore says about its construction too. You can tell it's not finished in this shot. See the pile of bricks for a front step to the verandah and the plain wire fence strung on bush posts? The later picket fence and fancy gate are nowhere to be seen. There was a lot of Jim in this house. Together with his partners in a mobile sawmilling plant he felled the trees and milled the timber that went into this little house. He'd come to Wingello in 1923 and took up a land grant. His tenure was short. He died in 1938.

What I don't know is whether this little house is still standing after a fire, most probably deliberately lit a long way south near Nelligen, burned up through the little village of Wingello. It survived the fire of March 1965, described at the time as the worst ever in Australia. Indeed, the Government of the day had managed to bring in the Army on the day of the fire. Of course, RG Menzies, founder of the Liberal Party, was PM then; a man who could get stuff done. That fire has now been massively dwarfed by the current fires. Fires, it can be argued, that have been made worse by the impact of anthropogenic atmospheric warming — climate change, or global warming, if you like.

Not just a bit of smoke that ruined a view or a haze that turned the sun red! No, this is climate change that costs lives and changes the course of history

Since then the conditions have deteriorated, more people have died and the politicians have wound up their PR machines instead of providing leadership and support.

What we have got is a mobilisation of the Army Reserve, a civilian militia, and a ship despatched from Sydney, not before, but on the day of the forecast disastrous weather. Sadly, said PM failed to tell the man in charge of managing the fire services about this little bit of grandstanding.

The Prime Minister has been to visit a town destroyed. But he wasn't made welcome. A member of his own party suggested that he probably got the reception he deserved. Instead of doing anything meaningful, this former ad man did a piece to camera where he prattled some slogans. He stumbled on the last one; it had more than three words in it.

Maybe the PM should have just shut up at that point. But no, instead of helping, he was putting together a slick TV advertisement about how wonderful it was that he'd called in the Army and promised to do something or other which didn't appear to relate to the here and now; a place with which he seems to be unfamiliar. It went to air as a political statement on behalf of the Liberal Party of Australia!

OK, it actually gets worse. The Prime Minister also released his slick ad on his personal Facebook page, with a big donate button. The only thing is that this button wasn't raising funds for the bushfire victims or even for new equipment. It was to donate to the Liberal Party of Australia. Let them eat cake!

Now this morning we have been implored to stop the blame game. Why? We aren't blaming you personally PM. However we are a bit tired of the party machine which impedes meaningful progress on changing from business as usual to constructive direction of policy to cope with that great big inconvenient elephant in the overheated room. The pillars of Government appear to be Christianity, coal and cops. The Pentacostals, like our PM, are meant to literally experience the teaching of their holy scripture. Apparently it prescibes seven pillars of wisdom, not three. The last time I looked they didn't mention Christ, coal or cops.

Two of Jim's sons fought that fire in 1965. The PM never met them. I can't imagine that if he had that he would have got a better welcome than he got in Cobargo. They were "can do" men; like Jim.

I have a 1994 Civic DX with 155k on the engine. The engine runs great and consistently gets 30-40mph pending how much highway driving is done. The engine has no leaks and has been taken WELL care of since I have been the owner which has been since 2008*/- & @ 105k miles. I just replaced all the brakes with and calipers with Honda OEM parts, except the rotors and drum springs and cylinders but does have new drums. Engine is a 1.5L D15B7 and is a manual shift/transmission. Clean CO title. Chilton Manual included.

New:

Brakes

Radiator

head gasket installed 20k ago.

new exhaust

Clutch

The bad:

Rear defrost only works on about 3 lines.

No power steering

AC does not work but is attached

Needs new tires.

Needs new radio antenna.

Mirrors will not adjust but are positioned properly for me.

Body damage to rear shock tower. Nothing visible.

Asking $900 or best offer. SERIOUS CASH inquiries only.

If you have a clean, applicable Civic body/shell that just needs and engine and transmission, I MAY be interested because this thing runs so well and gets such good MPG!!

Posting some more old photos that I took just cause I feel like it. ;)

These are from July 2011. At the time I was living in a very small in MA yet still collecting Monster High! ;P

Here is my Dead Tired Draculaura that I got. I also was able to get the Clawd/Draculaura set, Gloom Beach Draculaura, & Gloom Beach Cleo de Nile. :)

I have been posting pictures of this cork bark Japanese black pine bonsai for a long time. In that time, the canopy grew out of proportion with the trunk, I removed a major branch, and the design of the tree began to wander off mark. This winter, I restyled the tree.

The first thing I did was to drastically thin the canopy. I cut everything back to secondary buds. By choosing smaller interior buds, I hope to slow the rate of growth of this tree. Second, I carved the stump where I removed the major branch. Finally, during this time, the cork wings finally began to appear. I changed the front of the tree to the one shown here because two of the four cork wings are very visible from this point.

This is an anaglyph picture. Use red/cyan glasses for best viewing results.

posting some fun stuff for the calendar this year

I'm posting this as a record of the first time I've photographed the wrong bird!

Still at Mt Tomah Botanical Gardens, I was following a pair of relatively confiding whipbirds that were teasing in and out of shadowed and protected trees. Unfortunately they were keeping between me and the sun so the views weren't great. When one popped out onto a branch I took a few photos without looking carefully at the bird that was partly in silhouette. So just now I'm surprised to see it was actually a Red-whiskered Bulbul! In my defence they do have the same basic shape and both have a crest, though normally you'd be hard pressed to confuse the two.

(The Bulbul is an exotic Asian bird that has was introduced and settled in Sydney and seems to be expanding from there. Mt Tomah is perhaps 70km as the crow flies from central Sydney).

Posting a few old stock photos.

Finally posting some mittens *you know where*after the big snooze of the holidays.

Micro Handknit Mittens by me, for the girls, and THE boy, Wataru. Also fits a handful of other dollies like Susie Sad Eyes, Odeco Lati Yellow

If you need a pair for a doll with big mitts... let me know and we can work it out!

for those who already have my mittens, the ones I'm making now are just a tiny touch bigger, I find they fit blythe and other dollies better and they have "cleaner lines" too. For the rainbow ones, it's a plus, since they fit in up to 6 colours! the ones above have some purple in the tips too! niiiiice!

enjoy!

24 hours till vloggercon!

Hopping on the plane tomorrow morning.

I wanted to share my thoughts on meeting over 400 vloggers and vlog fans for the first time.

In a word.

Vlogebrity!

Vlogebrity is the term.

We have a little saying amongst vloggers, "We are the media".

And so by proxy we are also our own celebrities.

What does vlogerbrity mean?

It's the long tail of celebrity.

It is more niche than blogebrity, and yet far more powerful a celebrity.

It's about strong bonds.

Imagine if you will.

Tomorrow and Saturday I will meet for the first time 150 or 250+ people I've never met in person, but whom I've gotten to know intimately through video blogging over the last 2 years.

They are from all over the world, Norway to Australia, and pretty much every continent.

I know their names like I know the names of old friends.

I know their faces, their personalities, their mannerisms, their humor, their interests and passions.

When we meet we will recognize each other. We may shake hands, but like old friends our introductions will be very brief and we'll dive into specific topics and detailed subjects based on our shared interests.

There won't be silly icebreaking questions. No, "So what do you do?" or "Where are you from"... No idle "get to know you" chat. Just diving into the common subjects we share.

Vlogebrities have known backgrounds.

Vlogebrities have shared history.

The shock of meeting all my vlogebrity friends at once face to face. This is the thing I'm most looking forward to at vloggercon at this moment.

This is on the surface what I want to capture and understand. Because in studying vloebrity it will tell us something about the future.

A future where we're all the media, where we're all celebrities to someone, mentor's, peers, and friends of people the world over.

Regardless of geography.

Another step in the progression of the global village.

I relish this idea.

Vloggercon is going to be a completely unique, great and erie sort of culture shock that is probably completely unique to video blogging. I'm expecting a powerful sort of deja vu.

With Introductions a side (almost unnecessary) vloggercon will be about getting right down to business.

It may sound like a preposterous thing to say, but I ask you to consider, that never before has such a large group of people whom know each other so well met for the very first time.

Actors may meet and they know each others faces and characters, but they don't know each other for who they really are.

Intellectuals, writers, scientists and infinite professional groups may know each other by reputation, by exchanges of writing, even by photos, but again they don't know each other as intimately as vloggers. They don't know each others voices, facial expressions.

Vlogebrity is powerful voodoo.

Unlike hollywood celebrity, which gives a powerful false sense of knowing people, vlogebrity gives a true and powerful sense of knowing. But how true is this celebrity? How much do we really know each other? We shall see.

Needless to say vlogebrity is a very unique type of celebrity. An intensely personal sort of celebrity.

Vlogebrity creates powerful bonds and friendships.

...and I expect since we all know each other so well while never having met, that the conversation will be so furious at vloggercon I seriously hope I don't loose my voice. ;)

So soak up and take note of the power of vlogebrity. Breath it in, think about it. What is the truth of it, what is false. As McLuhan famously said the medium is the message. If we are the media, then what does it say about the future, what does vlogebrity say about the future of a truly global culture of closely bonded niche communities.

To me this says one thing. This new world that is evolving that is bonded by a democratic, open, participatory media system, a property fundamental to the internet. It is fundamentally going to make the world a much more human/humane place then a world shaped by cars, and TV, radio and newspaper. The world is becoming more human.

We are truly living in the future in many respects.

And yet we're living very far in the future.

7000 video blogs is nothing.

The massive popularity of a Youtube, (which I've never seen anything like in all my .com years) is impressive, but really it is nothing in the big picture

This is not about a 2.0 .boom. We've barely entered an era that's going to play out over the course of generations, perhaps this whole century.

What happens in the first 7000 video blogs is fun and very interesting, (not to discount the very much related and very important blogging, podcasting and photocasting)... but in order to understand the true power of open acess media / new media, it's impact on the world, we have to listen carefully and study carefully, because the majority of it's power, of the possibilities for change lie below the surface. They have yet to be discovered.

The question we must ask, is what happens when the other 99.99% of the world has access to not just rich media, not just blogs, videos, photo, and VOIP communications... but the tools and applications, the project management tools, the wiki-collaborative writing tools, the processing power, the connectivity?

The reason I like vlogging, is not because I'm a videographer, it's because I'm a student of media. It's not because vlogging IS the future. Who knows where we'll be in 5 years. Who knows if vlogging as we know it will even exist. The reason why I am fascinated by this thing is because it is an opportunity to look into a window of a *possible future*, to understand something about how media shapes our culture and our identities now and how it will like the inventions of the printing press, the radio and the television before it.

If mass media nationalized and mobilized the world, what will internet mediated media do?

And therefore the reason why I'm going to vloggercon is two-fold. Both to understand, study and interpret this fundamental change in the way the world is connected and how it will change the world.

And secondly and just as important to collaborate and discuss with others to distributing this future. TO make it available to as many people as possible.

This initial success, this web 2.0 boom is a a misnomer, a distraction to what is truly significant to what is going on here. Myspace and Youtube the current media darlings of this space are but short sited mischaracterizations of this era, false gods at best. Who is going to bring this evolution to the other 99.99% of the planet? The majority of the planet that doesn't speak english, or one of the five more popular languages. Proprietary, walled garden systems fundamentally lack this capacity. I suspect it will evolve as has open access media out of open source software as it is the only model flexible enough to bring these technologies to the rest of the world.

And don't even talk to me about "big media"... they lack the vision to see beyond delivering plastic disks and DRM laden content to .0001% of the world. That's some sever myopia.

Oh, and here's a random but very cool vloggercon promo from the vlog, The Memeing of Life.

Watch it: Vloggercon Promo from Mark Raheja, The Memeing of Life (Quicktime, .mov)

So! I'll see you all at vloggercon!

This is the second of a very, very special few days of posting for me. I really hope you all enjoy a peak into my personal life. As all of you know I have explored my fair share of abandoned farms. But what happens when the abandoned farm is your own family farm? Well, scroll through the photos and find out. Because the farm you see here, is my dad's farm. And, it's recently abandoned.

My dad's parents passed away when I was 3--both from cancer, within a year of each other. So I don't remember them at all. My dad's dad was a farmer--but his love was being an inventor. He invented the Harley Rock Picker and dad helped sell them when he was a teenager. My dad grew up on this farm from day one until he left for college--and even then he helped farm in the summers. He had a wonderful childhood, his grandparents lived just up the road (you can see those photos if you click through the photostream) and he would run through the fields to their house after school. In the early 80s my grandfather remodeled their farm house to look like what you see above. They also had a house in Jamestown he designed himself. The only grand children they knew, were me, my brother and my cousin. After us, came three more grandchildren they never knew, who also never knew them. It's been an effort keeping all of us close--I think when the parents are gone the children have to work harder at it. But we all love eachother. I love all of my aunts and uncles and all of my cousins. We all are special and talented in our own way.

The farm was auctioned off after my grandparent's death. It only had one owner. And, from what I heard, they passed away too--leaving the farm empty. It was both wonderful, fascinating and difficult to explore this place. My dad and his siblings struggled seeing it--my aunt said we should reclaim it and make it into a family summer house :) But it's beyond us now. It's no longer ours.

If you'd like to hear more of my bloviating and photos on my time exploring the farm please just ask for the link to my blog :)

Have you wondered about the magnificent display of flags in our community during national holidays? While many residents proudly display their own flags, the vast majority are provided through a fundraising program of the Rotary Club of East Jefferson County. The Rotary flag program displays more than 370 U.S. flags in the communities of Port Ludlow, Port Hadlock, and Chimacum over four holidays each year.

Flag installations are available for most of East Jefferson County and give flag subscribers an opportunity to dress up their homes or businesses on annual holidays.

The Flag Program raises funds through subscriptions to support East Jefferson Rotary’s scholarship fund that helps deserving local students attend college. This year, the program will raise more than $15,000, with all funds raised going directly to support these impactful scholarships for our students.

Rotary flags fly from early in the morning until dusk over Memorial, Independence, Labor and Veterans Days. Rotarians install a flagpole receptacle and put up and take down your flags on each holiday. Our community has been extremely supportive and has helped make the Flag Program very successful. Please consider subscribing to help more of our local students pursue their dreams.

While Rotary is involved in projects nationally and around the world, including efforts to eradicate the last remnants of polio, the Flag Program is dedicated to supporting our local graduating students.

To learn more about the flag program, scholarship recipients, or become a flag subscriber, visit www.ejcrotary.club (www.ejcrotary.club).

Rotary International is a century-old world-wide organization of men and women united by their interest in humanitarian service and who, by their actions, help to build goodwill and peace within their communities and around the world. The 2023 Rotary International Annual Report summarizes our global actions.

The Rotary Club of East Jefferson County was chartered in 1982 and is one of seven Rotary clubs on the Olympic Peninsula. Members of the public who wish to hear a speaker and those interested in Rotary are welcome at our weekly meetings, Thursdays at noon, at the Tri-Area Community Center, 10 West Valley Road, Chimacum WA 98325. Guests are always welcomed.
