The Tower Circus is positioned at the base of the tower, between its four legs. The circus first opened to the public on 14 May 1894 and has not missed a season since.
The circus ring can be lowered into a pool of water and holds 160,000 litres; at a depth of up to 4ft 6", which allows for Grand Finales with Dancing Fountains. The Tower Circus is one of four left in the world that can do this.
Animals appeared in the circus until 1990.
Photography is not allowed during the performance, if you want to know what the show is like, you will need to go to a live show....

"Life is life--whether in a cat, or dog or man. There is no difference there between a cat or a man. The idea of difference is a human conception for man's own advantage..." ~ Sri Aurobindo, poet and philosopher

Dynamic Position Systems (DPS), use multiple thrusters controlled by a central computer to maintain the precise position of a ship or floating platform.
Computers monitor wind speed, currents, wave activity, along with the pitch, roll, and yaw of a ship to determine which thrusters will reduce motion of the platform and prevent currents from pushing the ship away. The thrusters are enormous, with up to 6,000 horsepower, and several of these devices are needed to maintain position for a single floating platform.
The Thrustmaster Portable Dynamic Positioning System even has a portable DPS system that can be temporarily added to any ship, barge, yacht, or floating platform.

Ever tried this? ;-) Damselflies and dragonflies do it like this all the time. The vegetation round our pond is covered in them at the moment. I'm pretty certain this is Eschnura elegans - do the experts agree?
If you're interested the story goes as follows: the male (blue) transfers sperm from the genital opening on the tail to a special organ just below the thorax (segment 2). He then sets off in search of female, grabs her by the neck and the female then curves her abdomen round to collect the sperm from the male making a complete wheel with the female clasping the male as well (which you can see here). Then they revert to the tandem position shown here as the female lays the fertilised eggs on water plants just below the surface. Complicated, but opium if you're a damselfly! Have a look at largest size at the male's abdomen - can you believe that natural blue? - it looks as if it's been painted on ...

Members of The King's Troop, Royal Horse Artillery take possession of their field guns and arrange them into position. The regiment is preparing to fire a 41 gun salute to mark The Queen's 86th Birthday.
The salute is fired from 6 World-War 1 era Ordnance QF 13-Pounder Field Guns. The basic Royal salute is 21 rounds. In Hyde Park an extra 20 rounds are added because it is a Royal Park.
The King's Troop, Royal Horse Artillery was founded in 1947 by King George VI. On her accession, Queen Elizabeth II, kept its name to honour her father. It is a ceremonial mounted unit of the British Army and the Household Division. Its duties include the firing of gun salutes on royal anniversaries and state occasions, and providing a gun carriage and team of black horses for state and military funerals. Members of The Troop also operate as fighting soldiers, deploying to Iraq and Afghanistan as HGV drivers who deliver ammunition to artillery units around the battlefield.

Get your mind out of the gutter
I thought I heard a rattling noise, and looked down and realized there's something missing here, and had to go back up and find it...
Mainly disappointed that I did not get the pack of coyotes crossing the trail on video because that happened after the camera fell off.
