A Winter storm dropped rain on the sandstone formations forming reflecting pools everywhere.

I am still going through all my images from our Lake Superior trip this past July... slow but sure!

THE FAIRY POOLS - Isle of Skye, Scotland (part 1)

It's rare that I complete the process of developing images from a trip without having some sense of unfinished business, where a vision you had of an image hasn't quite lived up to the expectations you had while you were waste deep in a freezing river, shaking water out of your remote trigger. This is one such scene - the iconic Fairy Pools on Scotland's stunning Isle of Skye - completely absent of sunlight, yet somehow dramatically perfect with that low moody cloud hanging over the Cuillins. I've returned to the scene several times (digitally speaking) in the intervening years and always left wanting, despite the wonderful opportunity to reminisce. This time, perhaps, I've inched a little closer, but I always reserve the right - and the thrill - of returning to a much loved scene....

One of the better-known, and most photographed, of the falls. The trouble is that it's the one furthest from the start of the walk down into the corrie .. typical!

Kapoho Gezeiten Pools

Tide pools are rocky pools on the sea shore which are filled with seawater. Many of these pools exist as separate pools only at low tide. Big Island, Hawaii.

Gezeiten Pools sind felsigen Pools an der Küste, die mit Meerwasser gefüllt sind. Viele dieser Pools bilden eigenständige Becken bei Ebbe. Big Island, Hawaii.

I noticed that the Karma group on flickr is having a before and after for black and white conversions so I decided to upload the color version of a black and white landscape I had posted earlier. Let me know if you prefer the color version I would love to know!

This is of the Porcelain Basin area within Norris Geyser Basin at Yellowstone National Park. The high contrast scene seemed to be well-suited to black and white.

The Fairy Pools at Glen Brittle on the Isle of Skye.

It took three trips to capture an acceptable image of the La Jolla Tide Pools. The negative tide was not the ideal situation for me; however my weather app indicated the good chance of a nice sunset. The low tide revealed large areas of interesting greenery throughout the area, but I decided to stay here and claim this spot for my sunset shoot, knowing that there is room for only two or three people at one time to photograph this particular composition.

Situated in south Sardinia, these pools look really odd. At first they look natural but looking at them attentively one may see the trace of chisel... actually they were a Carthaginian quarry which were used to get the necessary stones to build a nearby temple.

The Fairy Pools are a must see spot on the Isle of Skye. First time we were there over 6 years ago the weather was horrendous so we skipped it. This year we returned to the location and got almost perferct conditions.
