Tonight’s sunset looking south over the Humber from the car park at Brough haven. I particularly liked the way the light was reflecting off the pools of water out on the mudflats. This was taken about ten minutes before the sky got really good, by which time I was in Morrisons buying groceries.
The travertine pools in the centre evidence the beauty of the formation before parts were spoilt, Pamakkale Turkey.

I had read that the parking lot here fills up pretty early, so I got up and on the road by 5:00am or so since Uig is about an hour away. Sure enough, I was one of 5 people in the parking lot! I'm so glad I got up early because this is a beautiful place that is best experienced with minimal people (although I think that about almost every place). The hike parallels a creek the whole time. At the end of the hike, you can either return on the same path, or you can go across the base of the mountains and return down the opposite side. That's the route I decided on. It's a very boggy trek across the base of the mountains. Thank goodness for waterproof shoes! Total was about a 5 mile roundtrip. The views are nice but repetitive once you turn from the Fairy Pools, but it was nice to have a solitary hike.
