One more from pine point beach the other morning. I wasn't going to post this one but I seem to be ignoring vertical orientation. So here is my token vertical shot. I think I just sometimes forget my camera turns that way.

I like to shoot early in the morning because there is never anybody out there. Usually this means undisturbed sand but the seagulls and egrets beat me to this spot. There were hundreds of them, but miraculously, none of them showed up in any of my shots. They kept their distance, but left some footprints in the sand.

Few places in the UK are quite so loved to death as this location, on the island of Skye. But a pre-dawn rising meant that I had the place all to myself and the tranquility to make good use of it.

The prize at the end of the Fairy Pools Walk.

After getting back to the computer after the last visit a few days ago I realised that the waterfall we had photographed wasnt the big one. After looking at a few photos on google and comparing them to ours, it was evident that there was a larger waterfall further up river.

So we got up and set off pre dawn and arrived at the carpark before 8am and set off on the walk while it was still dark. We arrived at this falls after about a 1.5 mile walk. Ths was the one i thought i'd photographed a few days ago.

So finally i've got quite a few photos of this amazing location and we never saw anyone else until we had set off on our walk back after a few hours here.

Deck 15 - Oasis of the Seas

Not the Glen Brittle ones but a tiny tributary near the Grey Mare's Tail waterfall just outside Kinlochleven.

At the foot of the Black Cuillin mountains near Glenbrittle, are the Fairy Pools, a series of crystal clear pools and waterfalls along the River Brittle, Isle Of Skye.

A mono conversion of a stunning sunrise back lighting the mountains.

The Crossbill group would arrive at the fountain/pond facility in a moderate sized group each morning. The females were generally more bold and would gradually drop down in this willow tree toward the pools. Eventually they would be drinking in a mixed group very close to my parked position. This shot really emphasizes the feature for which this species is named.

Earlier this week I was fortunate enough to witness extraordinary beauty while driving and hiking through one of the states true natural wonders...Petit Jean State Park. This shot was captured early on the cold morning where I started my journey, on the high rocky bluffs of Petit Jean Mountain's east brow, known as Stout's Point or Petit Jeans Gravesite. The rain showers on sunday had filled many of these rock cauldrons and I found them to be interesting, especially in this composition, where the textures and lines of the rock lead to this lone tree ablaze with the last of the turning fall foliage as the Arkansas River Valley seems to stretch forever in the distance.

In its descent towards Loch Brittle, River Brittle forms a constant series of delightful waterfalls and pools. The more famous and photographed of these are called the Fairy Pools, but as is often the case if you'll keep exploring the river you'll find many more photogenic locations worth a stop. This is the Fairly Pools proper.

I'm not a fan of pools, so I had some doubts about visiting the volcanic pools in Porto Moniz. But after swimming in these pools, I can say that it was the best pool experience of my life. When the Atlantic Ocean becomes turbulent and the waves starts crashing into these rocks, things get pretty wild and unforgettable. I highly recommend it to all adventurers.

A slightly different version of the fairy pools

At the end of summer, one of the pools is opened up to everyone to let their dogs go for a swim the day before it is drained for the Winter. The event is called Woof Slash.

This is a close-up photo of pools of water on a coastal rock.

New Urbanist communities, Rosemary Beach is an architectural treasure trove, boasting influences from the West Indies, New Orleans, Charleston and St. Augustine, among others.

The grand homes (many with adjoining carriage houses that are just as extraordinary) are interconnected by a discrete network of pedestrian paths and boardwalks, which become even more charming at night, basked in the soft flicker of gas-lit lanterns.

Like most Traditional Neighborhood Developments (TNDs), the best way to explore Rosemary Beach is on foot (or on a beach cruiser). Wood-plank pathways meander through the town’s striking architecture, often revealing hidden amenities such as playgrounds, bubbling fountains, tennis courts or one of the community’s several cosmopolitan swimming pools.

last minute trip out to Muriwai last Sunday to escape the city more than anything. Low tide revealed some pools and I managed to grab this before the wind ruffled the water in them.

Been doing a library sort today and found some shots I forgot to upload. This is at the stunning Fairy Pools on the Isle of skye. A beautiful set of cascades coming down from the Cuillin Mountains.

Contrast of the dark and light on this path caught my eye.

on a rainy afternoon in the Isle of Skye in Scotland, the mountain showed itself for just enough time so I could capture this take on the famous Fairy Pools.

Slightly different angle from "Spyglass Pools" but HDR this time around. flic.kr/p/9HtnDS

The geology of this place is incredible. As the light began to build, more and more little pools of "fog" began to appear where the waves were crashing over the rocks.

I've added a judicious bit of saturation in the pinks and yellows as the actual colour was a little dull due to the lack of clouds. More closely reflects what it felt like than what my camera saw....

The mist covered cuillin mountains overlooking the fairy pools of Glen Brittle on the Isle of Skye. Taken in March this year on a Canon 5D mk2.

I use GND filters even though I shoot digital.. How about you? While I was photographing the area, a fellow photographer said with digital, GND filters aren't needed.. I still like the result of balancing the exposure in a single frame. Also, for longer exposures, I believe the filters help capture more color & allow to capture motion/movement. Personally, I don't think it's wrong to use GND filters. Less to worry about in post processing.
