The Imperial Pod Racer
I recently saw a concept for a Tie Racer on instagram. It was cool but essentially it was just 2 massive cylindrical engines stuck to the side of a Tie Fighter. So I decided to take this to it’s natural conclusion. What would an Imperial Pod Racer look like?
The idea was to take the aesthetics of a Tie Fighter, split it up and re-design it for the racing circuit. I figured that with all the resources the empire has they would make something a lot more polished and refined than the junkyard efforts we see in the movie. They’d also use one of their signature designs for it. The centre part of the ‘pod’ is a heavily modified mid-section from a Tie Fighter by Jerac.

The Hoppa Pod was one of the sub-miniature space pods that created a brief fashion, roughly 450 years ago. These little bubble cars were handy for people living in crowded megapolises. The cars were quick, cheap to run, easy to park and required the lowest level of pilot's licence. The distinctive noise made by these diminutive pods often annoyed the drivers of larger, more prestigious vehicles.
Home delivery drones and tele-working gradually reduced the need for small commuter and shopping space vehicles. Nowadays, space bubble cars are only seen in pristine, polished condition at rallies of enthusiasts.

Treatment: nothing other than a MacOS Photos monochrome conversion
These are seed pods from the golden raintree, a species I’ve only seen here in Florida. Several of these large trees in my garden provide amazing fall color with two weeks of golden flowers in September followed by two months when the trees are laden with these salmon-colored seed pods, each containing three sturdy seeds. The pods resemble Chinese paper lanterns, or, as a second thought thought based on Cal's initial comment below, luscious lips in a Botox commercial. :-))
I generally like to photograph things in their natural setting, but these trees are forty feet high, and somehow, the delicate pods lose much of their impact when heaped on the ground. Plus it was pouring rain, so I, appropriately, took my raintree pods inside and tried a tabletop display.
