With wild Black-eyed Susans providing a golden background, I thought this green, about-ready-to-pop thistle seed pod really provided an attractive subject...

Came across these neat seed pods off the road .They are from the plant/ flower called "Velvetleaf" . One plant can produce up to 17,000 seeds and those seeds can remain dormant up to 50 years in the soil.

Spent flowers and seed pods look so neat in winter.

Spotted this Lotus seed pod that has matured to the point it looks ready to drop the seeds it is holding. It's interesting to see how much those seeds vary in size, and that one is already missing.

Not sure how they are deposited? A gust of wind, a bird who drops it, or it wilts as it ages and they just fall out? Regardless, hopefully at least one gets planted, and next year we'll be able to see and enjoy a beautiful Lotus blossom growing at the edge of the Lotus Pond.

When a recipe calls for a vanilla pod, don't just throw it away after you scrape the caviar. Instead, fill a clean jar with white sugar and insert the scraped pods. A few days later, you'll have a jarful of vanilla-scented sugar. You can use it in your recipes or simply sweeten your coffee or tea with it.

Another experiment with Mecabricks' rendering service. I used a night sky HDR lighting, as this seemed to be the most similar to the sort of background that I had in mind. Edited in Adobe PhotoShop Elements 6.0 that I bought years ago.

After leaving the dry seed pod, the male Fiery Skimmer grabbed a juicy fly and sheltered behind the trunk of the old potted Murraya to enjoy his snack. Note the flower buds on the branch above, indicating that more rain can be expected. /

These seed pods were changing colour as they were dying. I liked the variation from when they were starting to dry out to when they went hard and crisp. The seeds inside were clearly visible.
