My third attempt at a photo a day challenge. The first two were horrific failures. Maybe starting on January 1st will make a difference for me this time.

We had some trees removed from our property last week. This is all that's left of one that I really didn't want to lose. It was rotting in the middle and it was close to the house... but I really loved it.
These wintertime visitors are always a treat and so the encounters are always special to me. The one that was one his perch stepped down into the shallow water to join the second Roseate Spoonbill that arrived a few minutes later. So, it was now a double your pleasure moment with the Spoonbills while the White Pelican stretched and contorted off in the distance on Horsepen Bayou.

i added some orange and white. still a few changes to make, but i'm happier with this version than the last.
After the snow and ice over the weekend it was time to get back to work, but my driveway, and the secondary roads were still icy. Thanks to my Subie for making the trek easy.
Saw this beauty yesterday while out and about along a trail :) Seeing any owl in the wild is alway a special moment for me!
Le château de Berzé est non seulement l'un des châteaux médiévaux les plus complets et les plus impressionnants de Bourgogne, mais aussi l'un des plus anciennement attestés. Une charte de Cluny mentionne en effet en 991 un castrum Bertiacum. Les sires de Berzé n'ont pas toujours entretenu de bons rapports avec l'abbaye de Cluny très proche. Une guerre les a même opposés en 1205. La localisation stratégique du château, à la frontière du comté de Mâcon et du duché de Bourgogne, mais aussi sa puissance expliquent le nombre de sièges qu'il dut subir, en particulier aux XIVe-XVIe siècles, de la guerre de Cent Ans aux guerres de Religion.

Le camp de concentration, dirigé par les SS, est créé le 27 avril 1940 à l'initiative de Heinrich Himmler1 ; il est complété par un camp d’extermination et par un second camp de concentration destiné au travail forcé.
En cinq ans, plus d’un million cent mille hommes, femmes et enfants meurent à Auschwitz, dont 900 000 le jour même de leur arrivée, en général par train. 90 % des victimes étaient juives, soit environ un million. Les victimes, de ce que les nazis appelèrent la « Solution finale », furent assassinées dans les chambres à gaz ou parfois par arme à feu, mais elles moururent aussi de maladies, de malnutrition, de mauvais traitements ou d'expériences médicales.
La visite est pénible tant les lieux sont encore emprunt de l'horreur de la barbarie Nazie.

When I used to frequent Tonbridge West Yard in the 1980s, taking the long way round from school to the station, there were usually a few 73s on show - albeit not the re-engined variety. GBRf's 73963 waits for its next task as 73141 shunts RHTT wagons in the background.
