Le cimetière marin de Bonifacio :
Le cimetière le plus méridional de France, « Campu Santu » est situé sur le plateau du Bosco dominant les bouches de Bonifacio, face à la Sardaigne et à quelques pas de l’Eglise Saint-François (13ème siècle).
Le long des allées de cette ville funéraire toute habillée de blanc, les chapelles tournées vers le soleil couchant se serrent comme de petites maisons mitoyennes. Leurs croix blanches exposées aux vents et aux embruns se détachent sur un fond de mer et de ciel bleu intense.
Au cœur du cimetière marin de Bonifacio se trouvent l’Allée de la Sémillante et la Place de Crimée, qui rappellent le naufrage (1855) au large des îles Lavezzi (sud de Bonifacio). La frégate Sémillante de la marine française quitta Toulon la veille pour rejoindre la Crimée, afin d’apporter des renforts à l’armée française contre la Russie. Pris dans une violente tempête, le bateau heurta un rocher puis coula, avec quelques 700 hommes à son bord.
Ce lieu intemporel est propice à l'inspiration et à la création poétique :

Cette paisible nécropole révèle sa beauté,

Tu t’arrêtes devant quelques témoins du passé
Parcours atypique des histoires oubliées.
Tel que le naufrage de la Sémillante,
À la mémoire d’une frégate vacillante,
En partance pour la guerre de Crimée
…
Sépultures cachées à l’abri d’un ancien fort,
Surveillées la nuit par les feux d’un sémaphore,
Tous égaux dans les faits devant la mort,
Ils reposent face à la mer et dos au port. »

Bonifacio marine cemetery - CORSICA
The southernmost cemetery in France, "Campu Santu" is located on the Bosco plateau overlooking the mouths of Bonifacio, facing Sardinia and a few steps from the Church of St. Francis (13th century).
Along the aisles of this funerary town, all dressed in white, the chapels facing the setting sun huddle together like small terraced houses. Their white crosses exposed to the winds and the spray stand out against a background of sea and intense blue sky.
At the heart of the Bonifacio marine cemetery are the Allée de la Sémillante and the Place de Crimée, reminiscent of the shipwreck (1855) off the Lavezzi islands (south of Bonifacio). The Semillante frigate of the French navy left Toulon the day before to join the Crimea, in order to bring reinforcements to the French army against Russia. Caught in a violent storm, the boat struck a rock then sank, with some 700 men on board.
This timeless place is conducive to inspiration and poetic creation.

Despite a low grade fever he still wanted to sleep a night under the tree.
