Lens is the chunky Minolta MC Rokkor QE 100mm f3.5 Macro. In fairness I should be comparing this lens to my Pentax-M 100mm f4 macro, rather than the Rikenon. Both the Rokkor and the Pentax will focus down to half life-size.
The Pentax 'M' design philosophy was to produce lenses that were elegant, light, and compact. Almost all had a 49mm filter thread. The focus ring on the Pentax is buttery smooth and superbly dampened.
In contrast the Rokkor is like a brick (592g vs just 378g) and utilitarian in design. Yes, the lens is a smidgin faster (f3.5 vs f4), though not enough to justify the weight difference. Filter thread is 55mm. The focus ring moves in a way that suggests the lens has seen plenty of use.
While the two lenses handle quite differently, I do like the solid feel of the early Rokkor lenses.
The results so far look very nice.
As a comparison, I had photographed this same clump of daises just over a year ago - with the Rikenon.

Pendolino Plus test run from Ilmala depot to Lahti. Finnish Railways (VR) will introduce new Pendolino Plus service on Helsinki-Turku route starting from 3.11.2025. These are class Sm6 Pendolino high-speed trains that used to run between Helsinki and St. Petersburg until 2022.

My parents were down visiting last week. You can see my father, Border Mac, below. The first shot is him in action and the other is him, the day before in Brighton, reviewing the pictures he'd just taken. I think he got some good ones - hopefully he'll post them soon!

One of the things I miss from my trip to Delhi are the momos, which are essentially Indian versions of Chinese dumplings...but it's not for the faint hearted or the weak stomach-ed though!

Dans un village Masaï, danse traditionnelle des hommes de l'ethnie, caractérisée par les sauts impressionnants des guerriers.
Les Masaï ou Maasaï, les plus connus car les plus accessibles des tribus du Kenya et vivant à proximité des parcs animaliers fréquentés par les touristes, constituent une population d’éleveurs et de guerriers semi-nomades d'Afrique de l'Est, répartie principalement dans le centre et le sud-ouest du Kenya et au nord de la Tanzanie.
Ils ont résisté aux incitations des gouvernements kényan et tanzanien visant à leur faire adopter un mode de vie plus sédentaire et à adopter l’agriculture.
La vie traditionnelle des Maasaï s’organise autour du bétail, qui constitue leur principale source de nourriture mais, même si la viande et le sang sont des constituants traditionnels du régime maasaï, ce ne sont pas des aliments de base. Les Maasaïs consomment d'importantes quantités de plantes dont ils connaissent les vertus médicinales.
De langue nilotique, ils sont apparentés à l'ethnie Turkana qui vit plus au nord, près du lac du même nom et dont je parlerai prochainement.
How can this be 33 years old?! Certainly done well to survive this long, looks like it was getting used very sparingly until 2017/18, then it was off-road until 2020 since when the mileage has been going up more rapidly - it did nearly 11,000 miles between tests in January 2022 and 2023.

Depuis les années 1960, c'est l'un des sites touristiques les plus visités de Vienne. Le château de Schönbrunn est classé au patrimoine mondial de l'Unesco depuis 1996. Le nom Schönbrunn est attribué à l'empereur Matthias (1557-1619), qui aurait découvert lors d'une excursion à la chasse une source particulièrement belle (en allemand, schöner Brunnen « belle fontaine »). Au cours du siècle suivant, la famille impériale s'en servit comme résidence d'été, mais les invasions turques entraînèrent sa quasi-destruction. L'empereur Léopold Ier confia à l'architecte Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach la conception d'un nouveau château qui se voulait le Versailles autrichien. Le premier projet livré en 1693, trop utopique et excessivement cher, ne fut pas retenu. Puis vint une idée plus petite et réaliste. La construction débuta en 1696, soit vingt-deux ans après les premiers travaux entrepris à Versailles par Le Vau. En 1699, trois ans après, les premières festivités se tenaient dans la partie centrale du palais. Malheureusement, peu de parties du château survécurent car au cours du siècle suivant, chaque empereur modifia partiellement le bâtiment. Sur les ordres de l'impératrice Marie-Thérèse qui régna de 1740 à 1780, l'architecte Nikolaus Pacassi redessina le château dans un style rococo. Après la victoire de Napoléon à la bataille de Wagram, un traité entre l'empire français et l'empire d'Autriche est signé dans le château.
Au XIXe siècle, l'empereur François-Joseph Ier d'Autriche, qui régna de 1848 à 1916, laissa sa marque sur Schönbrunn. Il y passa la majeure partie de sa vie et y mourut. Le château était sa résidence d'été (la Hofburg étant celle d'hiver). Plusieurs pièces gardent également le souvenir de son épouse, l’impératrice Elisabeth dite Sissi qui, pourtant, ne faisait pas mystère de son austrophobie.
Pendant le règne de l'empereur François-Joseph, Schönbrunn était considéré comme Gesamtkunstwerk (chef-d'œuvre accompli) et remodelé en accord avec son histoire.
Après la chute de Napoléon Ier, l'archiduchesse Marie-Louise et son fils, le roi de Rome, partirent pour Vienne. L'enfant vécu dans un certain isolement au château de Schönbrunn où il mourut en 1832, à l'âge de 21 ans, dans une pièce connue sous le nom de chambre de Napoléon. 42 pièces, sur les 1 441 que compte le château, sont ouvertes au public.
