Please enjoy a safe last week of January
I've enjoyed the palindromic dates* this last week - 1/21/21 to 1/29/21 ... but then again, I lead a very shallow depth of .. life, and, like my images, clearly not very focused
*not applicable for those who put the day before the month.
Please support me in the ALS 2016 walk in Scarborough this year. The medications from the funding of previous supporters have helped me for almost 4 years. Last year's support from Gramp's Group was amazing... $9000.00.

A woody perennial flowering plant of the genus Rosa, in the family Rosaceae. There are over three hundred species and thousands of cultivars. They form a group of plants that can be erect shrubs, climbing, or trailing, with stems that are often armed with sharp prickles. Flowers vary in size and shape and are usually large and showy, in colours ranging from white through yellows and reds. Most species are native to Asia, with smaller numbers native to Europe, North America, and northwestern Africa. Species, cultivars and hybrids are all widely grown for their beauty and often are fragrant. Roses have acquired cultural significance in many societies. Rose plants range in size from compact, miniature roses, to climbers that can reach seven meters in height. Different species hybridize easily, and this has been used in the development of the wide range of garden roses. R_22501

A castle we passed on the way heading for Italy.
Burg Heinfels is a castle in Heinfels, Tyrol, Austria. It stands in the Puster Valley, near the entrance to the Villgraten Valley. A castle was not mentioned until 1243. It was expanded on the west side in 1500. In 1526, it was besieged by Michael Gaismair and 2,000 soldiers seeking to overthrow Catholic rule in the area. Today it is privately owned.

The museum was founded in 1988 in response to people's desire for a place to preserve their artifacts. The first building was a chapel in memory of the one built in 1788 near the coast. Then the museum acquired and renovated a school (1880), a barn (1890) and a lighthouse (1912). These heritage buildings allow it to preserve and display the artefacts of our pioneers.
Adventure Travel's contracted TrawsCymru Service T6 (Swansea-Neath-Crynant-Ystradgynlais-Sennybridge-Brecon) is registered to pass under the low railway bridge - which carries the South Wales Main Line - in Commercial Street in Neath in both directions. The service observes the bus stop outside the Railway Station rather than the Victoria Gardens terminal, and the use of Commercial Street further reduces the time penalty for serving the town.
I'm aware of only one double-decker to have lost her roof to the bridge and that was SWT ECW-bodied Bristol VR 993 in the early 1990s, which sealed her fate.
My shot goes back to June 2022 and depicts Adventure's Optare MetroCity OM162 passing through when green was still the primary colour used for TrawsCymru services. I cursed the pedestrian under my breath at the time, but in hindsight his presence probably enhances the image.
A still life, composite kinda thing I did.
Table top, white sweep, a figurine and a Styrofoam head. Two speedlites, a lamp, and a 50mm f/1.4 prime lens.
And a little photoshop to adjust the size and position of the figurine and shadow

Dramatic, dark, atmospheric gothic even; all words that spring to mind whenever I think of the Isle of Skye. There are a few locations on the isle that epitomise this image, and the Fairy Pools is one such place.
This is the second time that I’ve visited this spot and I’ve been taken back at the almost unlimited opportunities it offers for photographers, with a long series of pools framed by the looming backdrop of the Cuillin.
This particular fall seems to be the preferred choice for most photographers and it is hard to avoid photographing it yourself. On this day I was struck by how the cloudy sky was emphasising the greens in the pool. As the light was already dim I only needed my 0.6 filter to slow it down enough to allow the larger stones to show through the shallow water.
I had taken a few more images including a nice landscape version but I managed to accidentally delete them off the memory card; picture a ranting man in the middle of a glen in Assynt!
Like the image? Press ‘L’ to see it large and ‘F’ to add it as a favourite, and feel free to leave a comment; it’s always nice to hear what you think.
Thanks for looking
