Missouri Barn Live Fire Dinner at Powell Gardens with Craig Jones, Food Network's Grill Mayor and Owner of Savory Addictions Gourmet Nuts, June 29, 2014

This plating is more sprawling than my first attempt (see #1) and the saucing was less graceful (there's no going back and fixing it with this combo) but it better shows both garnishes: the fennel (slightly crunchy yet mild) and golden beets.

 

This menu was inspired by: 1) getting a batch of new plates at Kamei last weekend to change up my canvas and 2) having specific fresh ingredients in the fridge from midweek shopping that I needed to use (basil and blueberries).

 

It was a fair bit to get done on a Friday night given that most shopping was on the way home, so there wasn't that much prep time. I'd planned to do a panna cotta or chocolate cake with blueberries for dessert but was missing gelatin and just plain ran out of time.

 

Dinner menu:

- Pesto shrimp with escarole

- Pork tenderloin with creamy polenta and fennel

Contractor installing the wall plates for the network drops. The new lab is almost ready. The furniture was moved in this afternoon. I'm still waiting for the IT department to make the drops live.
