This part of outback NSW is pretty desolate. Saltbush as far as the eye can see, and not much else.
Sometimes an emu might break the monotony.

This may be the closest time I have even been to a butterfly especially this kind of petite size one. I tried to approach it as close as I could and would like to shot its details including its mouthparts(proboscis).

Although it may be difficult to believe, the picturesque flatlands lying between the border of eastern DRC and Burundi have played host to thousands of refugees, and have seen more than their fair share of violence and atrocities over the past 20 years.

Another bird from my trip to South Texas. It's about the size of a chicken and is usually found foraging in a small group.
Micropteryx calthella, on a single buttercup. I count 28 of them.
My thanks to Mothfather for the identification.

Besides shooting wildlife, I've been trying out the new lens (80-400) on close-up images of flowers and insects as well. It hasn't been a good year here for wildflowers or butterflies but still I've gotten a few images, enough for a short series....
The Des Plaines Theater opened in 1926 as a vaudeville palace under the ownership of the Polka Brothers. The architects were Betts & Holcum, who created its interior in lavish Spanish Baroque style with seating for 1,000 patrons, an orchestra pit, a grand organ. The exterior was Art Deco, complete with a brightly colored, patterned terra cotta façade.
This theater spent a couple decades awkwardly split into 2-screen format, but has since been returned to its original configuration.
