Florissant, CO - Most of the time the drone is used strictly for work, however, it's fun to take some shots in the Colorado mountains when time is allowed.

Thanks very much guys for featuring this image on www.diyphotography.net

I got 5th place in the D3A contest with this image - I knew there had to be a reason for the sudden increase in traffic! www.diyphotography.net/d3a-5th-place-winner Wish I'd removed the frame now but I seem to be one of those people who prefers them! :-)

I guess getting 5th place out of 5 prizes means I get last choice:-> but my preference would be for the explorer followed by the lensbaby, timer, vertex and then gells.

Is it just me or is there some weird Escher type optical illusion in the middle of this?

Strobist info - "ice" cubes sat on black acrylic sheet with a tracing paper background out of the top of the shot. Canon 430ez on 1/8th power firing onto a tracing paper background.

Saw quite a few out on Tindaya Plain with the easier birds just out of Tindaya towards the crossroad.

Plains Zebra foal. The Plains Zebra is also known as the Common Zebra. All Zebras have individual markings with no two alike.

Our only representative of a distinctive tropical family. Plain Chachalacas (Ortalis vetula) are common in a limited area of southern Texas, where their flocks live in thickets or riverside woods. Frequently, especially at dawn and dusk, a flock will perch in a tall tree and give voice to a disorganized clattering chorus of cha-cha-lac calls. Almost always heard before it is seen, the Plain Chachalaca is sort of a long-tailed, tropical chicken that lives in the treetops. These sandy brown and gray birds walk along tree branches to eat flowers, buds, fruits, and insects. Although most birds in the Galliformes family such as quail, grouse, turkeys, and pheasants are ground dwellers, Plain Chachalacas are at home in trees. Their young can cling to branches with both wings and feet as soon as they are dry after hatching.

Out of the trees appears the day gas west of Plains, MT and approaching Weeksville. The area along the Clark Fork is very scenic and it is really hard to go wrong with a photo location. I decided on a dark side telesmash as the train popped out of the trees and rejoined the Clark Fork River.

One wonders through the plains of existence to find one's self surrender down the rabbit hole. Can you find.....

Two shiny Aces, both from MRL's second order of the big ACs from EMD bring the night gas under the classic Northern Pacific-era signal cantilevers at the east end of Plains. Glad I was able to make it back up to Big Sky country again before all of these vintage sentinels fall in the name of PTC progress.

Nothing like a tiger, it is shy and easily scared, difficult capture them on camera.

I just couldn't get enough of this new byway .... which is actually a very old road.

Not the best composition, but it was freezing cold and the camera was packed away and with gloves it takes some time to get ready. And by then, the sledge had moved quite a bit:-)

I thought I would bring up a few of my many Plains, Ga shots. This small town will be getting some attention in the coming days.

One of Australia's rarest & most quirky birds - the Critically Endangered Plains-wanderer. These tiny birds measure only 15-19cm tall, with the male (pictured) being noticeably smaller than the female. The female will lay four eggs which the male will then incubate & raise the young on his own.

These birds are so unique that they are categorised in an entire family of their own, Pedionomidae, derived from the word Pedionomus, which is Greek for "haunting the fields".

Plains-wanderer habitat is sparse native grasslands, located on the Northern plains of Victoria & the Riverina region of NSW. They are very particular about their environment, & with much of their original grasslands no longer suitable due to over-grazing, they are now only found in a few remote locations. Further impacting their survival is predation by the introduced Red Fox & feral cats - there is estimated to be fewer than 1000 Plains-wanderers remaining in the wild.

Thankfully there is hope for these wonderfully unique birds. There are several partners involved in the conservation efforts to protect the Plains-wanderer, including Trust for Nature, Zoos Victoria, Parks Victoria, DELWP, North Central Catchment Management Authority, universities and private landholders. Efforts include monitoring, managing & protecting suitable habitats, predator eradication, as well as a tri-state (Victoria, NSW & South Australia) captive breeding program aimed at boosting wild population numbers.

May these little ghosts of the night continue to haunt the fields for many more years to come.

The Carrizo Plain superbloom in 2017 was off the charts and one of the best in the last ten years. I heard it was good out at the Carrizo Plain so made the three hour drive out to the badlands. Upon driving up some backroads, I was happy to come across this spectacular scene. It just put a smile on my face. The yellow coreopsis wildflowers were endless as far as the eye could see! I've been the Carrizo Plains for a number of years but I've never see the wildflowers quite like this. Normally it's a dry grassland with rolling hills. But this year with all the rains we've had and after all the years of drought the hills exploded in color. You can find fields of purple, orange and yellow as far as the eye can see. Not to mention the fragrance of the flowers. I couldn't get enough of photographing Carrizo Plain and the superbloom. Hopefully we'll get another one soon!

The plains of Sparta stretch east from the medieval ruins of Mystras, Greece. In the 19th century the remaining inhabitants of the late Byzantine castle city moved to Sparta where their descendants live to this day.

This tree branch was a long way up into the dunes - some storm tossed it there no doubt - too heavy to lift

I walked out of a business in the city- this is what I see... I love it.

The small village of Dinner Plain impressed us. Interesting houses, set amongst eucalypts created a nice atmosphere. There seemed to be plenty of facilities and we enjoyed lunch at the only restaurant open on the day we visited.

The prices for houses, or holiday accommodation, did not impress us.

I have added some more pics and written a few thoughts here:

Naast de ICM is ook de VIRM in grote getalen aanwezig voor de intercity dienst. Zo is de 8641 onderweg van Schiphol naar Ämersfoort Schothorst.
