Sporadisch ist der Winter 2025/26 im Januar 2026 mit ein paar Schneetagen im Elbsandsteingebirge zu Gast. Das gilt es für's Fotoarchiv zu nutzen. Das Basteigebiet ist dabei schnell und unkompliziert zu erreichen und lohnt sich motivmäßig eigentlich immer. Der Blick von der Basteiaussich ist der Klassiker schlechthin unter den Aussichten im Elbsandsteingebirge - und immer aufs Neue faszinierend...so wie an diesem Winternachmittag, an dem der beginnende Sonnenuntergang die Landschaft mit seinem orangen Licht überzog.

I have a friend, that that i like to go urban exploring with once in a while.
This weekend we visited an abandoned vacation center in the northern part of denmark.
It was almost completely untouched and an amazing experience as always.

Sometimes I find myself out shooting photos more from habit than desire. The distinction gets a bit murky at times. I suppose at one level desire is habitual. Often when out walking it feels weird not to have my camera with me, or at least a smartphone. I tend to get mini anxiety attacks if I discover I have neither with me. Even if I have no real intention of taking photos, my mind always works in terms of possibilities. I always worry about not being able to take a photo should the need (or desire) arise. On this particular day, there was far more desire than need. I had photographed the woods and the pond nearly every day for a week. It seemed there was nothing to be gotten by repeating the process. Yet still I found myself on the bank staring into yet another amazing confluence of sunny sky creating wondrous reflections of radiant autumn color. Of course I took some photos, and later filed them with the others. I didn't realize the full impact of my capture until I saw the photo in context. It had seemed like all the rest, just another autumn day. It was only I n retrospect that I realized I had photographed the exact moment of peak color. It's like that every year for me. Peak color cannot be realized in the moment. In fact it's not realized at all until colors fade (and leaves drop) when it's too late to get the shot. Photos I took the very next day at the exact same spot look abut the same, but they don't feel the same. Something is different; the magic just isn't there. Routines aren't necessarily a bad thing. Pixel acquisition is the key, regardless of the level of inspiration. Interpretation can follow, but cannot exist without the vital pixels.

Sitting on the side of a supercell at sunset in Nebraska! What I was about to witness was going to be epic! True Thunderstorm Eye Candy! Tons of ambient cloud to cloud lightning! Erupting over the spacious Nebraska Skyline..
Front row tickets to the show and this was going to be a double creature feature!

Visit my Photostream Archive (On Flickr) of Severe Weather
On the Sunday of Open House we made it to One Bishops Square. They made it very easy for people to get around this building with arrows on the wall so you could follow a self-guided tour. The main attraction is the 8 storey tall light installation called Pixel Cloud.
I lay on the floor to get this shot and had waited quite a while for the lights to change colour to this green and yellow.
