While the majority of nature photographers look to train their lenses on furry mammals or scaly sea creatures, Nigerian-Canadian photographer Dara Ojo is more likely to be found in a garden, field, or forest !

The Great Grey Owl, or “Chouette Lapone,” is a large northern owl measuring between 60 and 83 cm in length with a wingspan of 130 to 158 cm. It has a huge round head with wide facial discs and yellow eyes, and a hooked yellowish beak.
Despite its impressive size and thick greyish plumage that retains heat, it weighs only between 0.8 to 1.7 kg.
This owl is notable for its exceptional hearing, able to detect and catch prey under deep snow by sound alone, sometimes diving headfirst into snow up to 45 cm thick to seize prey with its talons. It is mainly crepuscular but hunts day and night, feeding mostly on small rodents like mice and voles, but also larger prey like hares and birds when available.
The Great Grey Owl nests in old nests of other birds of prey and lays 3 to 5 eggs, with an incubation period of around 28 to 30 days.
Its habitat spans boreal forests, marshes, and peatlands mainly across North America and northern Eurasia. Usually sedentary, it may migrate southward if food is scarce.
The owl’s thick plumage allows for silent flight at low altitude while hunting. It is a powerful and territorial bird with few predators, mainly other large nocturnal raptors. Its lifespan can reach over a decade in the wild.
The scientific name Strix nebulosa means “foggy owl,” referring to its northern misty habitat, and it holds the distinction of being one of the largest owls worldwide

°°°°°°
The vole might appear to be rather large in this photo, but it’s unlikely that it is any bigger than five to nine inches long. Its size relative to the kite shows why it might look so big: white-tailed kites aren’t particularly large or long-lived raptors, with even the average mid-sized kites measuring at most 17 inches long and the eldest recorded kite was estimated to have been around six years old.

“There's something sad and
foreboding about autumn
That sets the bird on the wing
And it's too bad when I think
How high is the price we must pay
For the spring time
Now the wind is rumblin' and thunderin' down
Walk along, talk along, autumn afternoon”

Stone Ponys (Linda Ronstadt). Written by

In the icy waters of the Arctic, a polar bear decided to embark on an unexpected career: Olympic freestyle swimming.
After months of intense training and a diet rich in protein-filled fish, he was ready to face off against the world’s best swimmers.
His technique is unique: he uses his paws like flippers and his massive body to generate incredible force in the water.
As judges are perplexed by this new form of freestyle, the polar bear exclaims with a mischievous grin: “Who needs a swimsuit when you have white fur?”
And with that, he dives into the water to win not just any medal—but an ice medal !

Two male saigas engage in an impressive battle, their spiral-shaped horns clashing with force.
This spectacular fight illustrates the competition that arises during the mating season: males struggle for dominance and the right to form a harem of females.
The winner of the duel will pass on his genes, while the opponent must retreat. These sometimes violent clashes are essential for natural selection and the reproductive cycle of the species.

°°°°°°°°°
Nowadays, artisans who combine tradition and creative freedom—without lapsing into amateurism are highly regarded, provided their approach results in genuine quality, respect for materials, and an ethical dimension.
An approach perceived as mere tinkering (“bricolage”) is only valued if it rests on a minimum of know-how, care, and originality …that’s what distinguishes the new artisan from a simple hobbyist …
°°°°°°°°°
AI is transforming photography faster than any technology in history. What once took days of travel, planning, and waiting for the perfect light can now be generated in seconds — by anyone, from anywhere, with just a few keystrokes !
You don’t need a crystal ball to see where this is going !
Very soon, AI-generated images will be virtually indistinguishable from real photographs. No expensive gear. No long-haul flights. No missed shots. Just instant perfection … oops !!!
This poses a serious challenge for professional photographers. AI artists don’t need experience or equipment. They don’t wait for the weather or hope for the right moment. They produce vast volumes of work — at a fraction of the cost 🤔
