The faded green copper domes of the Church of the Great Martyr, St. George the Victorious, rise above the skyline, serving as an impressive landmark to all travelers on the 401. Set in the heart of Old Oshawa, on Albert Street, the church has long been the spiritual home for Ukrainian Catholics living in an area stretching between Scarborough and Kingston. The parish itself was established circa 1912.

I’ve loved big waves and storms since I was a kid – the power and energy of the sea have always fascinated me. So, when Storm Eunice rolled in, I knew I couldn’t miss the opportunity to witness it firsthand !

“Radio playin' softly

Some singer's sad sad song

He's singin' about standin' in the shadows of love

I guess he feels awfully alone

She says I know exactly what he means

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

And it's a sad, sad, sad, sad feelin'

When you're livin' on those in-betweens

But it's okay…”

°°°°°°°°

With his wise rasta look, this cat proudly sports natural “braids”, the poetic result of a carefree life or just a brush-free routine.

Quirky yet full of tenderness, he reveals a unique charm that reminds us beauty sometimes hangs by a thread … of fur, naturally🤔

You can play 'spot the object' in this shot — there are a lot of them! Excluding a couple of days of planning and drying flowers, this shot took 3 hours to compose and shoot and another hour to post-process (mainly removing hot pixels!). Three separate exposures have been blended (all in Pixelmator in the iPad) — one for the left side, one for the oil lamp and one to highlight the burner flame). Further tweaking in Snapseed using multiple stack edits with #Snapseed's excellent masking capabilities.

°°°°°°°°

t is estimated that a pangolin is taken from the wild by poachers every five minutes.

Much of the demand for pangolins is driven by their scales, which are used for medicinal purposes, and their meat, which is a delicacy in certain Asian cultures.

Pangolins also face other threats, including habitat destruction and electrocution.

If a pangolin encounters an electric fence, its natural defense mechanism — curling up — means it wraps itself around the wire.

You build your fire into an open wound

You want us to feel better

With light revealing holy grails

To hike through dangerous weather

You need twilight eyes”

History - Wikipedia 02Feb2019

Eastern Point Light is a historic lighthouse on Cape Ann, in northeastern Massachusetts. It is known as the oldest seaport in America. The harbor has supported fishermen, whalers, and traders since 1616.

The lighthouse was originally planned in 1829 and was erected by 1832 on the east side of the Gloucester Harbor entrance. It was first lit on January 1, 1832. The tower was rebuilt in 1848 and again in 1890. The third and current conical brick tower stands 36 feet (11 m) tall. The lighthouse has an attached two-story keeper's quarters, built in 1879. The actual light is 57 feet (17 m) above Mean High Water. Its white light is visible for 20 nautical miles (37 km; 23 mi).

In 1880, the lighthouse was occupied by American landscape painter Winslow Homer. It was automated by September 1985 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1987. The lighthouse is currently operated by the United States Coast Guard and is closed to the public.

°°°°°°°

Glaciers have a profoundly fairy-like, almost otherworldly quality !

These giants of ice shimmer in the light as if they were made of crystal. Their shades from the purest white to deep, vibrant blues resemble precious gems hidden within a secret realm.

They embody both majesty and fragility: silent, yet animated by a slow, enchanted movement that seems to exist outside our human sense of time.

Their crevasses and natural sculptures appear as though shaped by invisible artisans, as if a mythical world had carved the very substance of the Earth.

To stand before a glacier is to feel as though you are stepping into a universe of Nordic legends or ancient tales, where the ice becomes a timeless, sacred, fairy-like kingdom …

°°°°°°°°°°°

Haggis is as Scottish as tartan and ginger hair !!!

But many foreigners are clueless as to what haggis actually is and Scots are using AI images to fill in the blanks.

The myth of “wild haggis” predates artificial intelligence: canny Scots have been playfully misleading tourists for years pretending that haggis is a small, furry creative that roams around the Scottish Highlands.

In the myth, a haggis is said to resemble a cross between a rodent and a bird. The story goes that the wild haggis has legs of unequal length, which allows it to run effortlessly around the steep hills and mountains of Scotland—always in one direction.🤔

These three bears, once masters of this icy environment, no longer recognize their territory. The shrinking sea ice has reduced their opportunities to hunt seals, their main food source. These changes are forcing them to adopt new survival strategies, such as resting more to conserve energy. However, even these efforts are not enough to compensate for the daily caloric loss they suffer.

In the face of these challenges, the bears seem to symbolize a silent but powerful call for the protection of their habitat. Their daily struggle draws attention to the devastating effects of climate change not only on biodiversity but also on humanity itself. Scientists and environmental organizations use the iconic image of polar bears to raise awareness and encourage concrete action against global warming.

In this way, these three polar bears are reluctant activists for a greater cause. Their struggle to survive in a rapidly changing world is a poignant reminder of the urgent need to act to preserve our planet and its vulnerable inhabitants.
