The coulter pine (Pinus coulteri) is a very well-endowed pine tree. These cones are bigger than my head!

There are some pinecones in our neighborhood that are very tightly wound and we've taken to bringing them home and watching them open. (looked them up - some kind of cedar) Sometimes I put the resulting cone/seeds out for the local squirrels. I recently picked up an intervelometer for astrophotography purposes (but, clouds, so not right now). So, the other day, son and I set up one of the pinecones and we're taking an image every 4 minutes. The next step will be figuring out how to create a time-lapse mini-film with them. (no, didn't research that in advance - LOL) I've already had to replace the battery once, and got worried this morning (day 4) that images weren't recording anymore so I pulled the card and downloaded what I've got so far.

my pinecone drawings. the blue background has some little brown speckles like a bird's egg. look at my other pictures to see it in repeat.
