Cones evolution

Before this winter I never had a Pine Siskin on my feeder. Today there were at least 50, with other flocks flying around. Big year for this finch all over the state and beyond.

Hanging upside down and bending backwards comes naturally to this Pine Grosbeak male as it crushes the pulp of another crabapple to get to the seed inside. January 19, 2019 in Rhinelander, WIsconsin.

With 60 degree temps and no sign of snow, a few of us met at the Arb to take a few photos. Explored an area I seldom go to for photography. There some beautiful pine trees with these lovely pine cones.
