Thank you to Izzy for the correct identification of this bird which is a female Pine Siskin.

I took this photo at UNC Arboretum on May 17, 2014.

Hanging upside down and bending backwards comes naturally to this Pine Grosbeak male as it crushes the pulp of another crabapple to get to the seed inside. January 19, 2019 in Rhinelander, WIsconsin.
