Late afternoon light filtered between rows of pine trees where a White-tailed Doe was leisurely feeding and making her way along the frequented path. Taken in Tomahawk, Wisconsin (Lincoln County) on November 14, 2014.

This Pine White was camped out on Rabbitbush and gave me a good pose. The Rabbitbush along the road at the Parks Creek Trailhead of the Pacific Crest Trail was full of butterflies today. Photo taken on 8/1/21.

Pine Siskins - Morgan County, Alabama - January 26, 2025

On my walk today, I saw a mixed flock of pine grosbeaks and redpolls. The red grosbeaks are males and the red one is a female. As we move to breeding season, the male redpolls will get some red in their breast feathers.

Love the Japanese Pine, tall, classy, green, simple, alive....

Like this one, on the top of a shrine in Miyajima, the sacred island.

The pine warbler has been a recent visitor rather than a regular. Glad to have it stop by any time.

Autumn is the best time of the year for colours! The golden browns and oranges really stand out during the sunlight filled afternoons that come about every now and again in October/November.

My latest trip out with the camera was one of those days and Clare was able to snap this lovely shot of some pine cones. The shadow contrast, against a blue background and golden pine needles, creates an interesting texture.

Snapped by Clare.

Pine Warbler in the late afternoon sunlight.

We do not have much pine on this side of the island so when you find it it is worth a picture.

Photographed in the backyard setup in Memphis, Tennessee.

I had some fun setting up bird feeders close to natural perches in the hope of seeing garden birds while up in the Scottish Highlands. Chaffinch were the most common visitors. They're often overlooked as they're a common bird, but they textured wing patterns and the males have striking orange plumage.

Just returned from a fantastic trip.

A huge thanks to Frank and Janet for inviting me and putting up with my early mornings and snoozy evenings.

This shot was taken during our hike of the Limber Pine trail after our visit to Bear Lake, Utah. This trail is found in Logan Canyon, not far from Garden City. The hike is named after a 2600 year old tree that is really three trees fused together. Shown in this picture is Miles Parker, posed in what looks like a propaganda shot for the Boy Scouts or some kind of hiking magazine.
