A quick study of the rocky shoreline of the Winnipeg River, viewed from the water. Knife painting on stretched canvas (oil, 11 x 14 in).
The start to Autumn here has been unseasonably warm and a visit to the Alfred Nicholas Gardens in Sassafras over the weekend, provided little in the way of Autumn colour, but lots in the way of inspiration!
Another fabulous day and outing with the FFF+.
During a nice warm afternoon I had the door open and I could hear Pine Siskins in the trees. It took a while to actually spot them and they did not stay still for long.
I went back to retake this pic today as my lens had a huge smudge on yesterdays...It still came out ok... but this is less the smudge :) Happy Weekend!
“Pine Forest, Evening” — A High Sierra pine forest in soft evening light.
This is an example of what a photographer friend has called “quiet photographs.” There’s no astonishing sunset, no peak piercing the clouds, no spectacular waterfall… just a quiet scene of the sort that characterizes much of our experience in the wild. I love those over-the-top astonishing moments, but I equally love the quiet, still moments and scenes like this one.
This particular scene is along the edge of Tuolumne Meadows in Yosemite National Park’s high country. No one else was there (hard to believe?) and the sun had just set. These trees, the ubiquitous lodgepole pines, stand near the edge of the the open meadow, and the meadow hasn’t entirely given up to them yet, as you can see from the open spacing of the trees and the short green foliage along the ground.
Sun. the 3rd Early Morning walkabout to the Willamette. Already Hot & Humid. Heading back to Cave to Muggy fer me.

Here is a beautiful scene in a technical canyon in Zion. The scale here is very large, notice the green fern and the giant log are dwarfed by the hundred foot tall canyon walls. © 2016 Christian Madsen

I keep looking for bohemian waxwings and only find pine grosbeaks. A pertty good consolation prize if I hadn't seen so many recently.
The yellow ones are female and the red ones are males.
I'm not sure if I've ever noticed that pine cones are green whilst growing on the tree ... I guess I'm just use to finding them on the ground when brown in colour!!
Stay Safe and Healthy Everyone!

Taken through the glass of my living room, because it is freezing outside! Hadley just came in to say it is sleeting. Crazy weather. Nice to once again have backyard visitors to entertain us,
First Pine Warbler of 2022
These lone pine trees always catch my eye when I go this way. After waiting about 10 brutally cold minutes for the sun, the clouds opened just enough for a little light to hit the rise. At the top of the photo is about the only blue sky around at that moment. Awoke this morning to a double-thickness of white over everything, and even late in the day much of it remains...
Pine Mountain, GA, USA
Early Morning.
Beyond the trees is Pine Mountain Valley. The vantage point is in FDR State Park, GA. Warm Springs, GA is nearby. Franklin D. Roosevelt loved to visit Pine Mountain and picnic along the ridge. You'll see more about this in later photos.
