Time, gravity and excess sun exposure can cause deepening of facial lines and uneven pigmentation. This gives an older, tired look to an otherwise youthful complexion. Laser skin resurfacing can reduce, and often remove, much of this damage to the skin and literally "turn back the clock". A tired looking, sun damaged face can obtain an entirely new, fresh look with healthy, glowing smooth skin. This is the goal of laser resurfacing.
There are different levels of laser resurfacing available, depending on the patient's condition, the level of "down time" or recovery period a patient can tolerate, and cost.
This is a lovely little brackish-water acoel I found in the WH01 sand. Very large posterior chordoid vesicles, and a lovely yellow-purple contrasting pigmentation anteriorly. One can see many spermatozoa in vesicles along a line moving longitudinally... why? Eggs visible too at high interference contrast.

I took inspiration from a creator on Instagram who had posted this look, I really loved it and decided to re-create it for my own Instagram. I used face paints to get the pigmentation I wanted and used various different brushes to create different textures and to blend the colours nicely. I used colourful gems to replicate the Christmas tree baubles. I also used latex soaked cotton balls which I ripped up and covered in green paint to create dimensions for the trees.

This little guy seems to have some unusual pigmentation on his head. Compare with this one. Hogs Back Park, Ottawa.
A rare bird indeed. Mistaken by many for a Whooping Crane. This bird is a genetic variant, partial albino. It does not get the characterisitc pigmentation in its feathers. Any brownish pigment is picked up from the soil as with all Sandhills. I was lucky enough to see and photograph this bird over several days.
The Carolina anole (Anolis carolinensis) is an arboreal lizard found primarily in the southeastern United States and some Caribbean islands. Other common names include the green anole, American anole and red-throated anole. It is sometimes referred to as the American chameleon due to its color-changing abilities; however, many lizards are capable of this, and anoles are not true chameleons.
This species is native to North America, where it is found mainly in the southeastern parts of the continent. Anoles are most abundant on the Atlantic Coastal Plains in North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida and Georgia, and the Gulf Coastal Plain in Texas. The species has been introduced into Hawaii and the Ogasawara Islands.
Anole males are often territorial. In fact some have even been witnessed fighting their own reflection in mirrored glass. Sometimes the other male will be an extremely invasive Cuban Brown Anole.
The typical coloration for a green anole ranges from the richest and brightest of greens to the darkest of browns, with little variation in between. The color spectrum is a resultant of three layers of pigment cells or chromatophores: the xanthophores, responsible for the yellow pigmentation; cyanophores, responsible for the blue pigmentation, and melanophores, responsible for the brown and black pigmentation when the anole is cold or stressed.
There are a few exceptions which are caused when a lack in one of the pigment genes occurs. These color mutations are also called phases. The rare blue-phased green anole lacks xanthophores which results in a blue, rather red, often baby or pastel blue, anole. These specimens have become a recent popularity in the trade market. When the anole is completely lacking xanthophores it is said to be axanthic and the animal will have a completely pastel or baby-blue hue. They are extremely rare—usually produced in 1 out of every 20,000 individual anoles in the wild. Another 'phase' is the yellow-phased green anole, which lacks cyanophores. Colonies of these rare color-phased anoles have been reported, but anoles with these color mutations rarely live for long, since the green color provides camouflage for hunting down prey as well as hiding from predators.
The anole's diet consists of small insects such as the cricket and the grasshopper. It may also eat grasses. Crickets are a good food for them as well as moths. Many people that keep green anoles as pets feed them mealworms, grubs, and maggots.
The Brown Anole (Anolis sagrei) is a highly invasive lizard in the same genus as the Carolina anole (Anolis carolinensis). It is native to Cuba and several other Caribbean islands, but has been introduced to Florida and has spread through the state. It has seriously depleted the population of carolina anoles throughout its range, due to competing with them for food and habitat. Some think that these lizards spread when they laid their eggs in potted plants at nurseries, which were then shipped throughout the state.
Bald eagle
Haliaeetus leucocephalus
This is "blondie", a leucistic bald eagle. Leucism is similar to albinism except where albinism is complete lack of pigmentation, leucism is partial loss of pigmentation.
This is the globular springtail Sminthurinus elegans f. ornata. They are characterised by the lateral pigmentation stripes with no mid-dorsal stripe.
I really like the pigmentation patterns on these and the facial stripe looks a bit like a moustache. The leaf-litter was sopping wet when I was out photographing this morning, but there were lots of Sminthurinus springtails around. The moisture gives nice reflections.

Masai Giraffe (giraffa camelopardalis tippelskirchi)
- Range: the Savannas of eastern Africa. Note: in prehistoric time this single species ranged over most open areas in Africa. The giraffe range began to shrink 1,400 years ago to its present size.
- Diet: Girraffes are browsers. plucking leaves, buds and fruits from trees such as acacia, mimosa and wild apricot.
- Fun Fact: a giraffe's 18-inch tongue helps extend its reach way up into the treetops and curls in between spiny thorns on acacia trees. It is believed that the black pigmentation prevents the tongue from getting sunburned.
This yearling Dusky Pigmy Rattlesnake lacks all red and orange pigmentation, a genetic condition known as anerythrism. In the Apalachicola National Forest, about 10-20% of the individuals I encounter show this character. A normally colored pigmy rattlesnake of this age should have a red vertebral stripe and a bright yellow tail-tip.
This sexually dimorphic species was only discovered in 2007. Males (right) are striped/spotted and bright yellow, while females (left) are usually more dull and lack the dark patterns. Both possess a patch of light pigmentation on the nose and a light yellow stripe on the tale. Note: males, like Eurycea, posses cirri during breeding season.

This piece was made in dedication to Yasuke and Toyotomi, the successor to Oda Nobunaga. Most don't know about Yasuke. He was born an African free man though it is not clear what country he was from. He was taken as a slave by European explorers and eventually made his way to Japan as a servant to Christian missionaries. Oda Nobunaga met with the missionaries and took an interest in Yasuke. The Japanese had not seen black people so they were intrigued by Yasuke's appearance. They tried to rub his tone away, not knowing that it was pigmentation. They marveled at his strong, tall physique and Oda soon took him in as one of his soldiers. He was well respected under Nobunaga up until Oda' defeat. Yasuke survived the attack but was banished back to the Christians by Nobunaga's enemies.
Geelbekneushoringvoel
(Tockus leucomelas)
The southern yellow-billed hornbill (Tockus leucomelas) is a hornbill found in southern Africa. Yellow-billed hornbills feed mainly on the ground, where they forage for seeds, small insects, spiders and scorpions. This hornbill species is a common and widespread resident of dry thornveldt and broad-leafed woodlands. They can often be seen along roads and water courses.
It is a medium-sized bird, 48–60 centimetres (19–24 in) in length, 132–242 grams (0.291–0.534 lb) in weight and is characterized by a long yellow and down-curved beak. This beak is huge in comparison to its body and can account for up 1/6th of the entire body length. Male beaks are on average 90 mm long while female beaks are an average of 74 mm. Males are generally bigger than females but there is overlap between the sexes. The size difference of the beak is a fairly reliable way of differentiating sex in wild hornbills.
The casque that characterizes all hornbills is of a very modest size in the southern yellow-billed hornbill. It is small, but it covers almost the entire length of the beak in males (less so in females), and may give the impression that they do not actually have a casque. As in all hornbills, the size of the beak actually intrudes on the frontal vision of the bird and the first two neck vertebrae are fused together.
Also, like most other hornbills, they possess a long tail, long eyelashes, stubby legs and stubby toes. The front three toes are fused together near the base.
They have white belly, grey neck, and black back plumage with abundant white spots and stripes. The neck has gray spots and the chest is lightly striated with black. Southern yellow-billed hornbills have no plumage pigmentation save for melanin, which can only produce shades of black and white.[2] The eyes are usually yellow, though brown has also been seen. The skin around the eyes and in the malar stripe is pinkish. The related eastern yellow-billed hornbill from north-eastern Africa has blackish skin around the eyes.
The southern yellow-billed hornbill is active during morning, day and evening. At night, it will sleep high in a tree so it won’t be preyed on. They can be found alone, in couples or in small groups. They generally tend to be loners unless it is breeding season, nesting season or if there is local migration during dry season.
The southern yellow-billed hornbill is often seen searching for food on the ground or in shrubs. It will not dig the ground, but it will overturn debris to find insects. It can also be seen pursuing insects by hopping heavily after it.
They are generally sedentary and they will defend their territories with elaborate displays. However, during the dry season, they will sometimes range widely in order to find food. Couples are usually monogamous and have a clear division of labour between males and females.
They have been known to live for up to 20 years in captivity, though their longevity in the wilds remains unknown.

Gymnocalycium mihanovichii, often called chin cactus, is a species of cactus from South America commonly grown as a houseplant. The most popular cultivars are mutants which completely lack chlorophyll, exposing the underlying red, orange or yellow pigmentation. These cultivars are often called moon cactus. Since chorophyll is necessary for photosynthesis, these mutations die as seedlings unless grafted onto another cactus with normal chlorophyll.
Gymnocalycium produces offsets pretty easily, even when grafted, and the offsets so produced can be grafted to a new base, perpetuating the plant, even though the best grafts only last a few years, as the base grows faster than the Gymnocalycium. After that point, the difference in speed between the two becomes too great for the graft to hold together, and the two split apart.

White Kangaroos are a rare but beautiful phenomenon and may result from either albinism — a genetic mutation causing total lack of pigmentation to the hair, eyes and skin — or leucism, a fault in the pigment cells that may cause white fur, but usually the skin and eyes are unaffected. Albino kangaroos can also be mistaken for whites which are a genetic strain of the western grey. True albinos are unable to produce any kind of pigment, hence their white coloration and pink eyes: Blood vessels normally masked by eye color show through. Albinism is a recessive trait, meaning both parents must pass the mutation on to their offspring / While on our way to Phillip Island we make a stop at Maru Animal Park, a family run attraction that includes an Animal Park featuring Koalas and other animals native to Australia, located on the Bass Highway in Grantville in southern Victoria.
