On the way back from a hiking tour on the coast of Madeira, we happened to pass by near the Pico Arieiro, when suddenly the cloud cover closed up and we were above the clouds. From here - from Pico Arieiro to Pico Ruivo, the highest peak of Madeira, a spectacular climb - the "royal tour" of Madeira - and we knew immediately that we want to do it the next day - if the weather cooperates
Auf dem Rückweg von einer Wandertour an der Küste Madeiras kamen wir eher zufällig in der Nähe des Pico Arieiro vorbei, als plötzlich die bis dahin geschlossene Wolkendecke aufriss und wir oberhalb der Wolken waren. Von hier - vom Pico Arieiro zum Pico Ruivo, dem höchsten Gipfel Madeiras führt ein spektakulärer Steig - die "Königstour" Madeiras - und da wussten wir sofort, dass wir das am nächsten Tag machen wollen - sofern das Wetter mitspielt

Pico del Teide - 3718 m - the highest mountain in the Canary Islands and Spain. The volcano is still active. At the summit penetrate from cracks and crevices sulfur fumes. For climbing the last 200 meters to the summit you need a permit from Santa Cruz. Daily can climb to the top 200 people. The view is spektaculär.

El Pico Turquino es la montaña más elevada de Cuba, se encuentra en el corazón de la conocida Sierra Maestra. Un auténtico paraíso, naturaleza en estado puro. Esta foto está tomada des de el refugio donde es obligatorio dormir antes de llegar a la cima. Un sitio con mucha paz.
O Pico da Bandeira é o terceiro ponto mais alto do Brasil com 2891,9 metros de altitude (medição revista por satélite/GPS pelo IBGE em 2004). O Pico está localizado na divisa entre Minas Gerais e Espírito Santo na Serra do Caparaó. Apesar de ser o 3º maior do Brasil em altitude, o Pico da Bandeira é o mais acessível, pois existem trilhas tanto pelo Espírito Santo, quanto por Minas Gerais, e as trilhas são muito bem sinalizadas.

El Pico Viejo-Teide forman parte del complejo volcánico que comenzó su formación hace aproximadamente 200.000 años en el centro de la isla. En el año 1798 entró en erupción y constituyó las llamadas Narices del Teide. Es la de mayor duración de las erupciones históricas de Tenerife, arrojando material volcánico durante tres meses.
Curiosidades : El pico picapinos es el pícido más ampliamente distribuido de toda la avifauna europea. Se extiende por la totalidad del Paleártico hasta el sur del Atlas, Anatolia, el Cáucaso, el norte de Irán y Mongolia. Falta en Irlanda y en algunas islas del mar del Norte y el Mediterráneo.
A beautiful part of Spain, not as well known as the tourist beaches but nevertheless (even more) interesting. Cantabria offers great mountains and awesome views.

The Picos de Europa (literally: "Peaks of Europe", often abbreviated in English to the Picos) is a range of mountains 20 km inland from the northern coast of Spain, located in the Autonomous Communities of Asturias, Cantabria and Castile and León, forming part of the Cantabrian Mountains. The most widely accepted origin for the name is that they were the first sight of Europe for ships arriving from the Americas (wikipedia).
Curiosidades : Uno de nuestros más extendidos y habituales pájaros carpinteros, el pico picapinos, es un ave dotada de un poderoso pico, que posee una prodigiosa capacidad para taladrar las maderas más resistentes. Estas cualidades le permiten instalarse en una gran variedad de hábitats forestales o semiforestales, desde pinares de montaña hasta bosques de ribera, amén de encinares o alcornocales. Este pícido, además, da muestras de una gran elasticidad a la hora de alimentarse, ya que consume tanto insectos como
pollos y huevos o todo tipo de frutos.
