North Atlantic Ocean, Azores, Portugal
It has been already off the island that took its name, the second largest in the archipelago of the Azores, that the clouds finally dissipated and Pico Mountain appeared in all its splendor, revealing the highest point in Portugal, 2351 meters above sea level.

They wouldn't let me play in the dinghies because quite frankly I am crap at sailing and I couldn't handle the terrifyingly strong cross-shore breeze. They were however happy for me to tear my arms and legs to pieces on a surfboard that seemed to be made from sandpaper.

'Pico' is a ten week old Chihuahua which we think will be partly long haired - we shall have to wait and see!
He's very fast, very sharp and very loving and has settled in well. 'Cookie' is getting used to the new addition and has a new lease of life after being number one for so long. Now he gets chased around the garden.
A shot first taken in 2003, while on one of my most exciting holidays ever, in Madeira. This is on a rather frightening footpath leading from Pico do Arieiro to Pico Ruivo, seen ahead in the centre of the picture. The whole of the drop down was shrouded in cloud, which helped with any feelings of vertigo !
Pico Ruivo is the highest point in Madeira, at 1,862m (6,109ft). It can be reached only by foot, usually either from Pico do Arieiro after a strenuous hike, which is this one, or from Achada do Teixeira with a shorter, easier trail. The last bit to the top was, I fear, difficult to say the least, so missed that ! We climbed out of the cloud into bright sunshine, unfortunately the cloud hid the spectacular views of the magnificent terrain of Madeira, which is the most hilly place I've ever seen. When people there tell you something is "up the road", that's exactly what they mean - UP - and it's steep !
Madeira is a wonderful place. I would love to go there again one day. The geotag is very approximate - basically it just shows Madeira.
Edited in Topaz Impression and finished off in PicMonkey using a texture of my own - hope you like it !
Thanks so much for every view, fave or comment - each is really appreciated.
