Angkor Thom was the last and most enduring capital city of the Khmer empire. It was established in the late twelfth century by king Jayavarman VII. It covers an area of 9 km², within which are located several monuments from earlier eras as well as those established by Jayavarman and his successors. At the centre of the city is Jayavarman's state temple, the Bayon, with the other major sites clustered around the Victory Square immediately to the north.

Bayon temple, Angkor Thom

Angkor Thom was established as the capital of Jayavarman VII's empire, and was the centre of his massive building programme. One inscription found in the city refers to Jayavarman as the groom and the city as his bride. (Higham, 121)

Khmer capital on the site, however. Yasodharapura, dating from three centuries earlier, was centred slightly further northwest, and Angkor Thom overlapped parts of it. The most notable earlier temples within the city are the former state temple of Baphuon, and Phimeanakas, which was incorporated into the Royal Palace. The Khmers did not draw any clear distinctions between Angkor Thom and Yashodharapura: even in the fourteenth century an inscription used the earlier name. (Higham 138) The name of Angkor Thom — great city — was in use from the 16th century.

The last temple known to have been constructed in Angkor Thom was Mangalartha, which was dedicated in 1295. Thereafter the existing structures continued to be modified from time to time, but any new creations were in perishable materials and have not survived. In the following centuries Angkor Thom remained the capital of a kingdom in decline until it was abandoned some time prior to 1609, when an early western visitor wrote of an uninhabited city, "as fantastic as the Atlantis of Plato" which some thought to have been built by the Roman emperor Trajan. (Higham 140) It is believed to have sustained a population of 80,000-150,000 people

A Lenda do Tanabata

I'm sorry I know this is bad, it would have looked so much cooler with an antique black umbrella, but the only ones we had were striped, yellow and bright red flowers! Also, sorry I haven't posted in a while, I had one I was going to post a couple weeks ago but my mom forbid it, it was just from my shoulders up and I had been wearing a cami but I pulled the straps down so you could see my bear shoulders. oooh so bad! No not really, it was kind of like an Eve thing like in Adam and Eve, I liked it.

+1 in comments, you should check it out it's a lot different and less creepy than this one

In the Dark

I'm still mostly lurking these days - life is busy. Sorry I haven't been by your streams much lately. I have just over a week left of work - that is so hard to believe...

I was tagged by my friend xAIAKx.

1. What I like to photograph the most:

Apparently lately I like to photograph trees, flares and cemeteries. But I'm surprised to find I don't actually know how to answer this question. I guess I like to photograph life in progress...

2. What I like to photograph the least:

strangers - although I do kind of wish I wasn't so shy and could do this

3. Photography Pet Peeves:

I'm going to have to copy xAIAKx and say noise. Except when it's part of the effect. I'm not sure what else - I'm starting to like all sorts of styles and see different things I like in most shots I see.

4. What I admire from other photographers:

Their unique ways of showing their world through their lens. (I know - such a corny answer, but that really is what I'm liking lately.)

5. What I'd like to learn better:

Most everything. Lately I'm trying to make my photos look clean and crisp - if that makes sense. That's what I'd currently like to learn more about.

Okay - so now it's my turn to tag (this is the part I don't like as much - don't feel pressured to do this if you don't feel like it...)

Thousands demonstrated on Friday in Tahrir Square, demanding public trial of Mubarak, his interior ministry Habib el-Adly, and other regime figures.

The square and the surrounding streets since early morning have been emptied from all police and military presence. Most of the established political forces, most notably the Muslim Brothers, did not take part in the demonstrations.

The families of the martyrs were present, and demanded speedy trials of the police murderers, as it's becoming clear day by day that they will get away with what they did. More shockingly, most police officers who are currently undergoing trial still hold their positions (or have been promoted)! Demonstrators also denounced the brutal police crackdown on the protests in the square on Tuesday night and Wednesday.

Protesters marched, in solidarity with the detainees, by 4pm on the ministerial cabinet headquarters and the interior ministry. Policemen from inside the interior ministry's compound threw rocks and were making provocative gestures with their hands. Protesters responded by rocks and a shower of insults and chants against both the military and the police.

I've heard very strong chants, demanding the execution of Mubarak, Adly and Field Marshal Tantawi. While some are staging a sit in at the moment, others will resume protesting on Saturday, in the run up to the mass protests planned next Friday 8 July.

Today was one of the hottest days this summer, the homeless in Ueno park were served cool orange iced drinks. This was part of my day hoping Second Day Harvest. I was in charge of Servering the Pasta and Bowls as well. I was so busy that I didnt take too many shots. i was very suprised to see so many homless from so many age groups. This shot was taken only after the Pasta ran out.

These past few months I have felt pretty uninspired with regards to photography. I've decided that as of today, I'm going to make more of an effort to seek out shots and then shoot them. More often than not whenever I have seen something interesting in the street I couldn't be bothered getting my camera out of the bag. My Bessa is going to join me (out of the bag) most places I go from now on.

I feel like this is a crossroads. Hopefully I should start to get some decent shots (fingers crossed).

The fortress "Sostra" is actually a Roman military post, built over the ruins of a Thracian settlement. It is situated in 12 km. north of the town of Troian and 28 km. south of Lovech situatied on a relatively flat terrain in the valley of the Osam river.

The word "sostra" in ancient Greek means girdle, bandage, barrier. It's quite likely that the origins of the name "Sostra" has a meaning of something that blocks the valley. In geographic terms the location of the fortress is really a key point in the river valley (named by the Thracians "Azamus"), surrounded by the hills of Trapezitsa (550 m. over SL) in the north, a branch of the Mikre hills - Popina and Popinka (500 m. over SL) in the west and Sulashko stronghold (500 m. over SL) in the east. In the southern direction the valley continues seperating the lands of the villages Dalbok Dol and Dobrodan. The fortress is build near the influx of the Ladana river (Lomets river), which flows very close to the northern wall and Osam river, which flows about 500 m. from the eastern wall. The fortress itself has an altitude of 300 m. over SL. The whole valley has an area of about 4 sq. km. The eastern gate, which is the main face of the site "Kalugersko"and is the one and only thoroughfare towards the upper course of the Osam river.

Deixa que eu chore

deixa que me toste

An olive backed Sunbird feeding on some flowers of a small tree. Somwhere in Chinese Garden, Singapore. Something completely different for this weekend especially since I haven't taken my 400mm for a spin since last January! Today I was reminded once again how challenging birding is. I definitely need a lot more practice.

I had forgotten to re-attach the quick release plate to my camera body after servicing it last week and as a result the tripod I lugged to this spot became nothing but a dead-weight liability, lesson learnt! Time for a gear checklist for every shoot. Despite the setback I decided to proceed, hand-holding the lens.

This photo was taken at a spot near a tree by the lake that I camped out for close to an hour -waiting for a bird to start feeding on one of the lower and more exposed branches. There were a whole bunch of sunbirds flitting about the tree, feeding so I felt I had a good chance of getting in a couple of decent frames. This one had the bird in just the right angle.

Notes: I was shooting against the sky so had to boost esposure about 1.5stops to bring the bird back under good light (the 800ISO raw file held together surprisingly and fortunately!). Held back the rest of the image using 3 digital GNDs. Adjusted curves and white balance. USM sharpening and noise reduction. Mild crop to fine tune the composition.

This Thingy On Black

"These are the days that I've been missing

Give me the taste give me the joy of summer wine

These are the days that bring new meaning

I feel the stillness of the sun and I feel fine

Sometimes when the nights are closing early

I remember you and I start to smile

Even though now you don't want to know me

I get on by, and I go the extra mile

These are the times of love and meaning

Ice of the heart has melted away and found the light

These are the days of endless dreaming

Troubles of life are floating away like a bird in flight

These are the days

These are the days

These are the days

I've tought you said that love would last forever

Leave and that the tears would end for good

I told you that we get trough any weather

Maby that didn't work out

But we did the best we could

These are the days that I've been missing

Give me the taste give me the joy of summer wine

These are the days that bring new meaning

I feel the stillness of the sun and I feel fine"

Song: These Are The Days

By: Jamie Cullum

it's just one of those days when you just wanna sit back,

relax..... have a dream or two

no post production

large On Black

I am unwritten, can't read my mind, I'm undefined

I'm just beginning, the pen's in my hand, ending unplanned

Staring at the blank page before you

Open up the dirty window

Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find

Reaching for something in the distance

So close you can almost taste it

Release your innovations

Feel the rain on your skin

No one else can feel it for you

Only you can let it in

No one else, no one else

Can speak the words on your lips

Drench yourself in words unspoken

Live your life with arms wide open

Today is where your book begins

The rest is still unwritten

Oh, oh, oh

I break tradition, sometimes my tries, are outside the lines

We've been conditioned to not make mistakes, but I can't live

that way

Staring at the blank page before you

Open up the dirty window

Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find

Reaching for something in the distance

So close you can almost taste it

Release your inner visions

Feel the rain on your skin

- Then answer these questions !

____

1/ Quelle est ta chanson préférée ? / What is your favorite song ?

If you were a dessert, what would you be ?

Puis tellement d'autres...

4/ T’aimes l'EPS ? / Like P.E. ?

5/ Cite trois meilleurs amis. / Name three best friends.

No matter how nice you are, there will always be haters.

If you could meet any singer/band who would rit be ?

Did you notice I skipped 7 ?

Oui je l'avais déjà lu

9/ Le sport… Tu en pratiques un ? / Sports... Play any ?

11/ Are you conceded ?

Erreur ?

12/ Tu parles d’autres langues ? / Speak any other languages ?

Je me damnerai pour manger de l'okonomiyaki right now!

14/ Quelque chose auquel tu es accro. / Something you're addicted to.

Random sentence ?

Ikitaiii...

16/ Quel âge as-tu ? / How old you be ?

J'aurai 22 ans à la mi-avril é_è

17/ As-tu une devise ? / Have a motto ?

Oooooh oui beaucoup, tellement... trop !

Is the person who tagged you epic/swagalicous/beasty/boss/insane ?

Another from my trip to a riding stables applying HDR & Animals in a landscape single raw file given the wiffsmiff treatment

Ok was asked by a friend to take some photos of her daughter and her new horse - now one or two issues with this - i dislike horses ok a fear and i have a wide angle lens so a few challenges .How to give it the wiffsmiff treatment .Well im glad to say they are happy with the result - poor light and dull skies added to my pressure .Oh and another horse gave me a right kicking in the field literally walked past me and kicked my shins - thank god for my hunters .This is by no means perfect and i have never tried this before .

now im wondering why i did not use filters to assist with the sky the sun was right above me to my left :-(

My friends daughter has only had the horse 6 weeks - poor horse must have been put off with me led on the gravel as he jumped the fence :-)

Freaky sky :-)

Another from trying something different.

Lessons learnt filters next time .
