White Sands National Monument, New Mexico
White Sands National Monument:
At the northern end of the Chihuahuan Desert lies a mountain-ringed valley, the Tularosa Basin. Rising from the heart of this basin is one of the world's great natural wonders-the glistening white sands of New Mexico. Great wave-like dunes of gypsum sand have engulfed 275 square miles of desert here and created the largest gypsum dune field in the world.
The dunes, brilliant and white, are ever changing. They grow, crest, then slump but always advance. Slowly but relentlessly the sand, driven by strong southwest winds, covers everything in its path. Within the extremely harsh environment o the dune field, even plants and animals adapted to desert conditions struggle to survive. White Sands National Monument preserves a major part of this gypsum dune field, along with the plants and animals that have adapted successfully to this constantly changing environment.

My road trip was alrite. My sister got sick so she vomitted on the three hour drive, really uncool. I'm ranting on my blog about it. hm as promised i have tag some people aye. if you wanna do it then JUST DO IT ! YAYA seriously . you can blame me for making you do it but just do it. i shall have a good time reading it and knowing you all. But i tag more then 10 coz i'm allowed to ! :P
How to play:
Tell your readers 10 things about you that they may or may not know, but are true. Tag ten people and be sure to let them know they’ve been tagged (a quick message will do). Don’t forget to link back to the person who tagged you
If someone i tagged is not going to do this, well then i'm stalking you !! SERIOUS! NO JOKE !

I work at an animal shelter and took my camera to work today. This Samoyed puppy was surrendered to the shelter when his owners developed allergies. There are some dogs and puppies that come in that just make me say 'this is going to be a perfect pillow for some one' because they are so sweet and soft. I always remember when I was a kid and I'd snuggle up with my dogs.
Although this guy found safety at this animal shelter and an adoptive home, there are many others that aren't so lucky. Over 300 adoptable yet homeless animals are euthanized weekly in San Antonio, TX alone. Please be a responsible pet owner and help end pet over population one animal at a time- Spay/neuter your pet. Not only does it greatly help with pet over population but it increases your pets health and well being. It reduces risk of cancer, relieves your pet of the urge to breed, reduces aggression tendencies and can help to keep your pet wondering off to find a mate.
wonews.net/ar/index.php?act=post&id=14814

Thousands demonstrated on Friday in Tahrir Square, demanding public trial of Mubarak, his interior ministry Habib el-Adly, and other regime figures.
The square and the surrounding streets since early morning have been emptied from all police and military presence. Most of the established political forces, most notably the Muslim Brothers, did not take part in the demonstrations.
The families of the martyrs were present, and demanded speedy trials of the police murderers, as it's becoming clear day by day that they will get away with what they did. More shockingly, most police officers who are currently undergoing trial still hold their positions (or have been promoted)! Demonstrators also denounced the brutal police crackdown on the protests in the square on Tuesday night and Wednesday.
Protesters marched, in solidarity with the detainees, by 4pm on the ministerial cabinet headquarters and the interior ministry. Policemen from inside the interior ministry's compound threw rocks and were making provocative gestures with their hands. Protesters responded by rocks and a shower of insults and chants against both the military and the police.
I've heard very strong chants, demanding the execution of Mubarak, Adly and Field Marshal Tantawi. While some are staging a sit in at the moment, others will resume protesting on Saturday, in the run up to the mass protests planned next Friday 8 July.

A stagecoach drawn by horses.A great touristattraction and touristtrap in the city of Antwerp, Belgium. The stagecoach has parked nearby the central square in the city known as "De Grote Markt" (the name means "The Large Market" in Flemish/Dutch ) The image for me breaths the atmosphere of long gone days, when the pace of life was slower and people didn't have to be there "yesterday".
I see it before me ; the old postcard images, in sepia, or somewhat yellowish with the smell of old, wet paper that has dried. The "Good old days" have since long gone.We do our very best, to recreate them.

You know the african proverb:
It takes a whole village to raise a child?
I have been asked many times what I've done (as a parent) to get my daughter, Llael to 'here'. I've got to say that I definitely have not done it alone!
The mentor system is wonderful for absolutely every person - and has been essential for guiding a highly psychic child like Llael. My personal feeling is that the consciousness on this planet is rising so dramatically from the past that we have a whole generation or two of parents who are in the position of raising children who are more spiritually aware than ourselves. I can't imagine that this is the norm in most worlds.
In any case, to meet that challenge I have been reminded of the african proverb and have taken it to heart. Llael's godmother has been wonderful support and deeply knowledgeable help in many times; another friend who experienced many of these extended abilities as a child herself has been a 'ready reference guide'; and former professors, have been supportive too.
I have learned to ask, not hide. To be an advocate; To follow where Spirit leads and puts people in my footpath.
..... and to READ! Many parents write and tell me that they don’t know anyone else in their community who they can share these things with. It seems really synchronistic that the internet came into its own about the same time as the profoundly aware kids! smile. Today’s mentors might come in virtual form - often as authors of all the wonderful books available.
Becoming your own mentor
(and your child’s mentor)
We chose homeschooling for middle school and most of high school - which many parents now choose for a variety of reasons - - and it seems to suit the psychic child’s specialized education needs perfectly.
The Home education movement is a movement that is really giving us back our own knowledge - a sort of “permission” to know what we know, be our own expert - or to go become our own expert.
BUT, it’s not the only way, and not the best way for all children. Be prepared to educate your own school leaders about the need for a more spiritually-based education, one that is sensitive to sensitivities. Ask that the FULL RANGE of sensory perceptions be taught wherever possible.
This website represents some of our favorite ways that we have found to fully explore the spiritual world of children - -
If any of you have suggestions to share we would appreciate hearing your thoughts and we’ll add them to our suggestion page. Our email is below - THANKS ashcraftmmin@yahoo.com

It's been wet for ages. Not really raining for any length of time, but just a bit wet. The kind of damp where there are always dark patches on the pavements, and in the evenings the roads look a wee bit shiny, like the kind of dull gleam you get when you've just polished a cast-iron frying pan with cooking oil.
Same again today. The rain stopped me from doing two things. Cutting the grass had to get put to the back burner again (yes I know it's a bit late in the year for that kind of thing but it's still growing, and the car is showing a sub-tropical 16°C from time to time), and just as it came to decision-time as to whether or not to go to the shinty/hurling international the heavens opened. And I couldn't really be bothered getting wet. As is Inverness's wont, the rain didn't last for any length of time, but by then it was too late to go. So I grabbed the camera and headed into town.
Gregor was standing opposite the Market Brae Steps handing out Christian leaflets. I walked past him a couple of times, thinking it wasn't fair to bother him since he was busy, but because light was fading fast I decided to give it a go.
A very nice man and very open and chatty, he used to live in Inverness, but now lives in Invergordon. He still, however, comes into Inverness each week to worship. he told me that I had missed a great photo opportunity earlier when he gave one of his leaflets to a lady who turned out to be a nun...

This bird was a challenge. Right at the back of my house is a little paradise for birds of all kinds. House sparrows, chaffinches, blue tits, great tits, robins, blackbirds, blackcaps, whitethroats, goldfinches, yellowhammers and chiffchaffs all nest in a little thicket of trees. On this day, I could pick out the willow warbler, chiffchaff and Yellowhammer all singing away but what else was that I could hear? Something unfamiliar, certainly.
Now, I'm no expert on bird calls. I know my Great tit from my Chiffchaff but there are a good few song birds I haven't yet taken the time to learn. This was one such bird but I wasn't sure if it was something as common as a blue tit (they seem to have quite a repertoire of different wee noises) or was it something far more elusive like a blackcap, which I saw on two separate occasions last year and I had to really stalk to get the shots.
As i deployed my best ninja skills, one foot sloooowly in front of the other, trying to avoid crunchy twigs while not slipping around in the mud. Every now and then the bird would go silent and I was sure I'd blown it but then, wait, it was still there. As I edged my way closer and closer and I suspected directly into the bird's line of sight i was sure my stalking would soon come to an abrupt end, but no, there was the bird.
A greenfinch, a first for my local patch. I had only previously recorded greenfinches at Bavelaw (and once at the zoo!) so I was pleased as punch to be able to record it in Kirknewton. The bird kept up its loud call and at first I thought it might be a recent (early?) fledgling but this would appear to be an adult bird.
Not a new tick or me but really delighted to see it in my local area.
An ivory head of Santo Domingo de Guzman
ESTIMATE: PHP 550,000 - 600,000
18th century
Manila
Ivory, wood, glass eyes, polychrome
18 x 11 x 13 cm (7 x 4 1/4 x 5 in)
Provenance:
From the heirs of Dr. José P. Bantug
Separately carved ivory heads were intended to be attached to a sculpted saint’s body, which could take several forms: de tallado, a fully carved and finely detailed wooden body painted in organic polychrome to create a complete sculpture; de gozne or mannequin-type wooden body with articulated limbs; or a bastidor-type structure consisting of a half-length carved wooden torso with a wooden slat framework below, functioning like a petticoat and also fitted with articulated limbs. The latter two forms were designed for de vestir sculptures, meant to be dressed in real, often elaborately embroidered garments. Once completed, these santo images were installed in church altar niches or used as processional figures. Affluent families likewise commissioned santo images for private devotion within their homes.
This ivory head represents Santo Domingo de Guzmán. It features an elongated, narrow face with softly rounded yet prominent cheeks and a refined jawline. The almond-shaped eyes are slightly wide and contemplative, retaining their original, well-integrated glass elements. Heavy lids rest beneath high-arched eyebrows, enhancing the introspective expression. The nose is slender and elongated, characteristic of Baroque devotional sculpture. The beard is deeply undercut and stylized in controlled, layered curls, while the small mouth with gently fleshy lips conveys a calm, inward-looking demeanor. The overall aesthetic is light and refined. A circular cavity beneath the head confirms that it was designed to be mounted onto a wooden body. Both its construction and stylistic characteristics point to early 18th-century (1700–1740) production in Manila workshops, where highly skilled Chinese artisans (Sangleys) collaborated with indigenous Filipino carvers. During the early to mid-1700s, sculptors increasingly emphasized subtle naturalism, evident here in the slightly parted lips – revealing carved teeth when viewed at an angle – and in the delicately indicated Adam’s apple (laryngeal prominence). This ivory head represents a superb example of Manila workshops at their technical peak, during a period when the colonial settlement was recognized as a global center of religious art.
Possibly due to pecuniary considerations or the unavailability of ivory of sufficient size, the uppermost portion of the head, including the finely carved tonsure, was fashioned separately from wood and surmounted onto the ivory. Based on strict classical proportions, the head would have originally belonged to a sculpture measuring approximately 36 to 42 inches in height.
Santo Domingo de Guzman or Saint Dominic (1170-1221) was a Castilian Catholic priest and founder of the Dominican Order. He and his order are traditionally credited with spreading and popularizing the rosary. The mark on the ivory forehead indicates the former presence of a star appliqué, one of the saint’s principal attributes, symbolizing the light of holiness and divine wisdom.
This ivory head has remained in the possession of the Bantug family, passed down through successive generations from their distinguished collection, beginning with the patriarch Dr. José P. Bantug (1884–1964), physician, public health educator, and author.
