Borden and Dawson Counties, Texas Ranch
Location: The ranch is well located southwest of Gail, TX.
Acres:15,920.5 acres, more or less
Terrain: Much of the ranch has a rolling to hilly terrain, draining to the Colorado River and Gold Creek. There is some country located on top of the Caprock Escarpment. Native grasses are in excellent condition, and there is no sign of overgrazing. Cover is generally provided by mesquite and cedar, with areas of hackberry and willows along the river and the creek. There is very little salt cedar along the river and creek on the ranch.
Water: The ranch is very well watered by windmills, electric submersible wells and numerous ponds. The Colorado River heads just off the property, and several springs are located through the river channel. Additionally, Gold Creek heads on the western portion of the ranch and eventually feeds into the river.
Improvements: The ranch is improved by a ranch manager's home, several sets of livestock pens and a great network of ranch and oil field roads.
Access: Access is provided by a substantial amount of paved highway frontage.
Hunting/Recreation: This is an excellent area for wildlife. Whitetail deer, pronghorn antelope, aoudad sheep, turkey, bobwhite and blue quail and feral hogs are common.
Price: $495.00 per deeded acre
Remarks: This is a very good ranch with substantial live water. There is considerable oil production on much of the ranch, but the ranch has been priced to sell.
Primera foto después de varios días sin subir nada. No he tenido mucho tiempo para fotear.
First photo after long days without uploading. Not much time for shooting.
This is the first photo (not good at all) from a session in an abandoned discotheque on Iquique. Me and some friends got there after a soccer game on last Monday’s night. On the first visit, I hadn’t brought my camera with me. We just explored and it was a really creepy place to be.
We decided to come back there on Wednesday and I obviously took my camera this time. It was fun. Anyway, it’s quite difficult to try to shoot without being disturbed by your friends when they aren’t interested on photography at all. It was a nice day, by the way. Hope you like this collection, guys.
So, I was at Montrose Beach yesterday, and as I always do, I walked from the dog beach to and through the preserve. And in the preserve was a professional photographer, pointing his camera towards some birds. And I took some pictures of some different birds, and then after awhile the pippins he was shooting. And then asked him about a bird, but not until they were all walking away. And he got on my case for talking, and then went off about me ruining it for people trying to make a living by donating my pictures to the Park District for signs and by taking pictures of the same birds he takes pictures of. And so I wished him a nice day and left, but not before saying, as I have to him before, that he cannot expect to take pictures in a Chicago park and have no one else ever be around. And that I will glady give pictures to worthy folk who ask. So then he sent me some rambling emails, which I deleted unread. After which I proceeded to post some pictures from the last few days. And thought I would do this SP. Taken at Loyola Park, one of my favorite parks. And holding my Park District volunteer hat, which I got from the Nature Center for doing turtle/tortoise presentations to the kids in the nature camp. (They want some pictures too.)
At Montrose where this guy got on my case, at the same time and right near us, there were paid contractors doing invasive plant control. Which is also done, although not with chemicals, by volunteers on a monthly basis. Yet the contractors have never told the volunteers they were ruining their livelihood by pulling weeds. I know at least one other bird photographer who mentioned getting a nasty email from this guy about the same topic. I know everyone needs to make a living, but I also know volunteer stuff is what makes the world work as well as it does.
Anyway, that is my mutter. I know at least one of my contacts lately talked about volunteering, as in hasn't lately and should get back into it, which made me want to write this.

I was hoping to shoot birds in the first morning sun.. well.. that was not to be. This little fella had to be shot in almost dark.. so I increased the exposure by over 2 to get it to lighten up a bit. Also, my ISO was set to 100 and in manual mode I used 1/200 for my shutter speed. It is a miracle I got this picture at all! =)
Software used: Lightroom 3 for basic exposure setting and RAW conversion to TIFF and in CS5 I used OnOne Phototools to get the bird bright and sharp without also making the background more sharp.
About the curious neck adornments, read about this bird on Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anna's_Hummingbird it is Anna's hummingbird and they have a ruby colored throat and some ruby also on the head on the side. Some people call them the "ruby throat-ed hummingbird" but Anna's is special because of the forked tail and that the tail is dark and has white edges. this hummingbird species is native to the West Coast of the US and particularly many are found in Southern California and specifically in my backyard. =) I grow many flowers and trees specifically for them--I don't feed them with the sugar feeder because it actually hurts them! So they get to pick among a variety of flowers and flowering trees in my yard.
This little fella (a juvenile male) is sitting on my still dormant apricot tree checking me out. I had babies all over the place this spring but I also have a cat who investigates everything I investigate... so I did not visit the hummingbird nests, hoping not to call attention to them. =)
Happy Monday everyone!

BLM Wild Horse Corrals, Burns, Oregon
www.blm.gov/or/districts/burns/wildhorse/corral.php
Facility Operation
Wild horses are brought off the range to the corrals where they are immediately separated into pens by age and sex. The mares with foals are kept together while weanlings and yearlings, dry mares, studs, and geldings are kept in their respective, separate pens.
Within a short time of their arrival, the horses are given a health inspection by a veterinarian. Animals with any injuries or disease are treated immediately. All animals are prepared for adoption in the chute area located under the barn where they are checked for age, vaccinated against disease, wormed and freeze marked. Horses are aged by inspecting their teeth.
The horses are vaccinated against such diseases as Rhinopneumonitis, influenza, tetanus, sleeping sickness, strangles, Rabies, and West Nile Virus. The animals are also wormed to rid them of internal parasites. If animals are kept for long periods of time, their hooves are trimmed periodically, as the ground in the pens and pastures is soft and hooves do not wear down as readily as they did when the horses lived on the range and roamed over rougher terrain.
The pens near the barn are used as working pens where horses and burros are separated for various reasons whether for shipping, health inspections or viewing for adoption. Note the numerous gates, small side pens, wings and alleyways which make it easier to work with the animals. The larger holding pens are to the north and are connected to the working pens and alleyways. The horses and burros are kept in these pens unless they are to be shipped out in a very short time. The eastern pens are reserved for female animals and the western pens hold the males. The large barn and handling facility was built in 2001 to replace the old wooden barn which was lost to fire.
Freeze Marking
Horses and burros are freeze marked using liquid nitrogen and a special branding tool which marks the animals. Each animal is individually identified by alpha angle symbols applied as a painless freeze mark on the left side of the neck. The mark identifies the animal as an official wild horse or burro. The symbol includes the animal’s birth year and identification number. The diagram to the right shows an example of a freeze mark. Read each angle to determine the freeze mark number.

Another nice Detail of the Volkswagen Manufactory in Dresden.
Transparent Factory is the English name of an automobile production plant owned by German carmaker Volkswagen, designed by architect Gunter Henn, and opened in 2002. The original German name is Gläserne Manufaktur (factory made of glass, literally vitreous manufactory). Both the German and English names are a word play on the double meaning of transparent and glassy, referring to both optical transparency and transparency of the production process.

TOM BEAN, TEXAS.
Tom Bean is a town on State Highway 11 and Farm roads 902 and 2729, ten miles southeast of Sherman in southeastern Grayson County. It was established in 1888 as a stop on the St. Louis Southwestern Railway, and that year a post office opened there. The community was named for Tom Bean, a surveyor from Bonham, who, in hopes of enticing the rail line to extend its tracks across land that he owned in Grayson County, donated a fifty-acre tract for a town site and railroad right-of-way. The presence of the railroad drew settlers and businesses from the nearby community of White Mound, and by the early 1890s the incorporated town of Tom Bean had the post office and a school, a general store, a blacksmith shop, a cotton gin, and a weekly newspaper. By around 1900 its population stood at 299, and in the mid-1920s the town had a population of 367, with twenty businesses. In the mid-1950s Tom Bean had 286 people and eleven businesses. After the 1950s its population began to grow, reaching 570 by the mid-1970s and 926 in the late 1980s, when the town had four businesses. In 1990 Tom Bean reported 827 residents.

Frankie is still missing since May 14th. We haven't given up hope, and are still searching, and reaching out to anyone that can help us find out Furry little man.
He is a 13-year-old ragamuffin--he had a grey 'rogz' collar on with a bone id tag, the tag had his name, and our contact information on it. It may have come off... He doesn't have a tattoo, or a microchip.
He was let out of our house some time while my husband and I were at work. We found his footprints leaving our yard walking east. We are just off New Brighton Drive.
He is my fur baby, and I need him home. Any help from anyone is getting him back home will be forever appreciated.
