Hello, everyone. Have you missed me? :)
Most of you probably didn't notice, but I've been absent for Flickr for more than a week.
I still took ALL of my 365 pictures - this project is a part of my life now, and I'm not going to give it up.
However, editing and uploading the pictures I take is not a main priority at the moment.
I do apologize greatly for not keeping up with any of your streams. I was busy last week, and then Friday through Tuesday I was on vacation, so I wasn't able to get on a computer at all.
But here I am again! :)
I'm actually cheating with this picture. :O It's the first time I've ever cheated, so gimme a break. :P
I did take pictures on the 29th, but they were rushed due to my seeing Eclipse at midnight, so they were all awful. Instead, I edited this picture I took last summer at Fort McHenry.
I will now be plaguing you all with nine days' worth of uploads. I apologize in advance.
I've missed you all and hope to catch up with all your streams soon! :)

St. Stephen's Basilica Roman Catholic basilica in Budapest, Hungary. It is named in honour of Stephen, the first King of Hungary (c 975–1038), whose mummified fist is housed in the reliquary.
Equal with the Hungarian Parliament Building, it is the one of the two tallest buildings in Budapest at 96 metres (315 ft) - this equition symbolises that worldly and spiritual thinking have the same importance. According to current regulations there cannot be taller building in Budapest than 96 metres (315 ft). It has a width of 55 metres (180 ft), and length of 87.4 metres (287 ft). It was completed in 1905 after 54 years of construction. Much of this delay can be attributed to the collapse of the dome in 1868 which required complete demolition of the completed works and rebuilding from the ground up.
The architectural style is Neo-Rennaissance; it has a Greek cross groundplan. The façade is anchored by two large bell towers. In the southern tower is Hungary's biggest bell, weighing over 9 tonnes (8.9 LT; 9.9 ST) . Its predecessor had a weight of almost 8 tonnes (7.9 LT; 8.8 ST), but it was used for military purposes during World War II. Visitors may access the dome by elevators or by climbing 364 stairs for a 360° view overlooking Budapest.

Famous and impressive, both at a distance and nearby, with marvelous views over the capital of Hungary.
I debated whether or not to post this (obviously I won the debate with myself) due to the angle, but the story behind the picture was too compelling!
The border collie had been harassing the sheep (with a certain amount of glee, I might add) all around the pasture for some time. Finally, one of the sheep decided it was time to make a stand and to confront the collie. The tension in the air was palpable, and those watching were holding our collective breaths. At last, the collie inched forward, looked the lead sheep in the eye, and the rebellion collapsed in seconds. The sheep had had freedom in their grasp, but just couldn't stare their nemesis down any longer. Apparently, sheep will be sheep . . . :)

Internet mail, or “e-mail,” is a neat thing as it takes the postal system out of the loop and allows us to communicate with friends and/or family almost instantaneously…even those on the other side of the globe.
And while all of us enjoy a good joke or two, they tend to get old when you’ve seen them 50 times. My biggest pet peeve is when the same person forwards the same e-mail over and over again over the course of several months. I admit, my memory might be no longer than a mosquito’s butt, but come on! Even I can remember having sent certain pictures/jokes previously.
All that rambling having been said, I admit to getting a chuckle out of the Asian food store pictures. Sometimes, things are best not translated. The one above is the cleanest of all that have been sent (again) most recently.
I also like the pro gun, 2nd amendment “posters” floating around out there. On the surface, this one resonates pretty loudly and seems to scream “double standard.” But then again, isn’t it true that if so many Americans weren’t armed to the teeth, the President, regardless of his name or the color of his skin, might not need so much protection in the first place? It only takes one wacko to make trouble.
But hey…the girl is kind of cute. What gun totin’ guy wouldn’t like a girl that can probably shoot straighter than him?

The 1914 Ingram/Foster Biplane
At the Albuquerque International Sunport
"This biplane is probably the finest surviving example of an original Curtiss-design pusher. In contrast to modern aircraft, on the biplane the propeller is located in the back of the craft and it is pushed, rather pulled, through the air. Most of the airplane, including the wing fabric, is in original, unrestored condition. Minor repairs have been made to the wing fabric and bamboo since the plane was acquired in 1987. Only a very small number of parts, including some of the rigging wires, have been replaced."
--from the display information
I have always loved this biplane flying in our airport~
Irish Brigade, 63rd, 69th and 88th New York Infantry, 14th New York Independent Battery
The monument is a Celtic cross supported by a granite base, standing 19’ 6” tall. The front of the cross is an ornate bronze ornamented by a 2nd Corps trefoil, the numbers of the three New York regiments, the Seal of the State of New York, and a harp flanked by eagles.
At the foot of the cross lies a lifesized Irish wolfhound, symbol of honor and fidelity.
It was sculpted by William R. O’Donovan, a former Confederate soldier who fought at Gettysburg. The monument was dedicated on July 2nd, 1888.
The Irish Brigade was one of the legendary units of the Civil War. Three of its regiments were from New York. The other two were the 28th Massachusetts and the 116th Pennsylvania. With its numbers horribly thinned at Antietam and Fredericksburg, the three New York regiments could barely muster two weak companies each. But the Irish Brigade was still a force to be reckoned with when they were thrown in to support Sickles' collapsing line on the afternoon of July 2.

"Avery Island’s most spectacular feature was developed by the late Edward Avery McIlhenny, known as "Monsieur Ned" by his French speaking friends and associates. Much of the world knows about TABASCO® Pepper Sauce, made for over 125 years on Avery Island, Louisiana. Not as many people know that Avery Island is actually a salt dome that extends some eight miles beneath the earth's surface. Or that the protruding "island" part of the formation is home to the world's most beautiful sanctuaries for the preservation and study of flora and fauna.
It was on Avery Island, where salt and pepper meet, that Edward McIlhenny helped save the snowy egret from extinction. In 1895 when the bird was being hunted for its plummage, McIlhenny built an aviary on Avery Island and captured and raised eight wild egrets. After they had raised their hatches and were ready to migrate, McIlhenny freed them. The egrets returned the next spring and every spring since. The egrets and herons return by the thousands to the rookery now called "Bird City". Not surprisingly, Jungle Gardens is a birder's paradise, home to hundreds of species of resident and migratory birds.
McIlhenny did much more to ensure that feature generations had an ideal spot to enjoy and study the beauties of nature and to observe plants and flowers from around the world in his 200 acre Jungle Gardens. The gardens are home to a large collection of camellias. Thousands of plants represent some 600 varieties, including imports from Japan and France, as well as varieties that McIlhenny developed on Avery Island. You will see acres upon acres of bright azalea flowers that carpet the landscape in the spring. Massive live oak trees are prevalent throughout the gardens, along with brilliant wildflowers and groves of evergreens. The Chinese Garden contains a Buddha sculpture dating back to 1000 A.D."
Pour voir en diaporama les séries "A tous les 100 pas/ "...
Concept original de DIdier Bonaventure qui nous ouvre la voie :
la série A tous les 100 pas de Didier Bonaventure
....
In every 100 steps ? It is a kind of advance, a course, a ballade. It is, while leaving at home, 100 steps after 100 steps (that is to say in all 2400 step and thus 24 sights) photographs of what was in front of me.
So, every day, during 24 days, on Flickr, on the same place and at the same hour, the picture of previous the day is replaced by a new image.
To keep the track of the past images, they are placed in a message under the image which changes. It is thus necessary to reserve 24 successive places from the dépos of the first image.
This choice of presentation has the effect of showing the messages of the visitors and their comment on the image which was, for them, that of day.
...
About the shot
Possibly my best shot to date, technically-speaking. Only needed to crop and sharpen very slightly. I'm very pleased that I seem to be improving rather than remaining static. Now if only I could produce these kinds of results every time, but I imagine this is the way for many of us photographers!

About the Diana Monkey
The Diana Monkey ranges from 40 to 55 cm in length, excluding its tail, which is of a uniform 3–4 cm diameter and 50–75 cm long. Adults weigh between 4–7 kg. Individual Diana Monkeys may live for up to 20 years. They are generally black or dark grey, but have a white throat, crescent-shaped browband, ruff and beard; the browband gave the species its common name, since it was held to resemble the bow of the goddess Diana. The species is regarded as endangered by the IUCN as well as by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service, the chief dangers to them being habitat destruction (they are now virtually confined to coastal areas) and hunting for bushmeat.
The Diana Monkey is a noisy presence in the forest. Its marked coloration allows a wide range of visual social signals, and it also has a wide range of alarm calls, with different sounds for different predators. The monkey has distinctive alarm calls for different kinds of predators, and recent research has shown that other forest residents such as the Yellow-casqued Hornbill are able to discriminate these and take appropriate action.

Stop The Killings, Memorial for Cyclist Hits Home
By: Will on: Dec 11, 2006 04:38 PM (149 reads)
On Saturday afternoon more than 100 cyclists and friends of Eric Ng road from Washington Square Park to the Westside Greenway to pay honor to Eric and memorialize him. Eric Ng was killed while cycling on the westside bike path more than a week ago by a drunk driver who drove his BMW down the path for more than a mile before striking Eric. I did not know Eric, but I know some of his friends, and there are many other friends of his from the cycling community whose faces I know. Eric was both a cyclist and an activist. He was interested in making the world a better place and inspiring others to do the same. Saturday I took photos during the memorial. These will be painful for some, especially those who knew him or were there. I am sorry for that. I deliberated about posting them, Saturday was heart wrenching enough. But the killing of innocent cyclists in NYC must end!
Most painful of all Saturday was having to watch Ryan of Visual Resistance lead the dedication of Eric's ghost bike. Ryan is a leader of the Visual Resistance ghost bike project in which he makes ghost bikes, generally for people he does not know; but this past week he had to make one for a close friend and install it at the site of his friend's death. In posting these photos hopefully the injustice of this tragedy and of all killed cyclists will reach a bigger audience. I never want to have to attend another memorial like this again.
